  1. Disc 1: I should've bought this a long time ago and only recently discovered that I wouldn't be duplicating anything from my collection. I found it with 3 if the discs sealed for $50. Man, that Parlan/Tucker/Harewood rhythm section gets me every time.
  2. Ted Brown's daughter has started a GoFundMe campaign for the great saxophonist, who is facing financial problems following his wife's death. It was mentioned in a different thread, but I wanted to give it its own thread to make sure everyone who can help spots it.
  3. Clare Fischer - Waltz: I still have a free copy of Fischer's Thesaurus available.
  4. I hadn't heard of him before, but this thread piqued my interest. I ordered pianist Erwin Schmidt's Dorothy's Valentine, which has Mr. Großrubatscher on drums. It's crazy to think of how most major cities have these musicians who are talented and respected but go without receiving wider recognition. It is important to appreciate them. Rest in peace, Mr. Großrubatscher.
  5. Thanks, Steve!
  6. Question for whoever has the box: How are the discs packaged? I just received it from an eBay seller and received only two discs in single cases and the fat booklet. Given the booklet's size, the packaging would have to be an old-school fat case fitting all 3 or a single and a thin double.
  7. That is a great pic. I wish that Uptown had released the Detroit compilation of jazz before Motown. I remember writing Bob Sunenblick and he indicated that there had been a problem with a transfer but he seemed hopeful that it would see release. At any rate, Detroit has been such a cradle for jazz talent.
  8. Paul Quinichette - The Vice Pres

  10. A big reason why I love record stores: Filling in gaps. Who knows when I would've checked out Kid Ory had I not picked this one (for $2) from several options.
  11. Alright, one last reduction.
  12. I have a copy of Clare Fischer's Thesaurus for anyone interested. I bought Waltz, which combines Thesaurus and Duality from the same sessions, so the single album is now up for grabs.
  13. Earl Bostic - The EP Collection: I bought this for $1 a few years ago and ripped it yesterday. I don't know if I listened to it before yesterday. Bostic reminds me a lot of Brotzmann with the huge sound, growl and vibrato. I know Brotzmann was inspired by Hawkins, but I wonder if he ever dug Bostic.
  14. I just finished the wonderful Roy Haynes sextet date, which led me to Henri Renaud's all-star date. With many recent purchases and some more on the horizon, I still plan on spending more time revisiting this box that I purchased back in 2014.
  15. I don't think I've seen Jimmy Cobb spell his name 'Jimmie' before. I wonder when he made the change.
  16. Amina Claudine Myers - Jumping in the Sugar Bowl
  17. Music for my daughter to eat Cheerios by.
  18. Randy Weston - Mosaic Select, Disc 2: The session with Cecil Payne, Ron Carter and Roy Haynes.
  19. Amina Claudine Myers - Jumping in the Sugar Bowl
  20. Wow! Thank you for posting this picture. I'll be seeing him next week for the 2nd time this year (11th time altogether). I can't wait to show my wife this.
  21. For the 2nd time since finding it for $1 on Sunday. Ambitious, wide-ranging, gutsy and a hell of a lot of fun.
  22. Jim, just because you have a strange compulsion to respond to every topic possible, that doesn't mean you should. You can keep some things to yourself instead of displaying zero class or sensitivity. He was my age. I saw him once in Cleveland with Dominick Farinacci when Dominick played a hometown gig and brought some New York guys with him (Yasushi Nakamura and Dan Kaufman rounded out the young band). When I used to regularly watch the Smalls live feed, he was often present. Live or on record, he was a fine drummer and his death brings a shocking, premature end to a promising life and career. Thank you for the music, Lawrence, and rest in peace.
  23. That's a good one, although my physical copy has disappeared, likely ending up in another case while I was driving. I do have it uploaded to my Google Play library, thankfully.
