that's probably true - my complaint is that they have not re-evaluated basic musical techniques and approaches - it's the same for a lot of Indie rockers who don't grasp that to re-define a form - rock, country, jazz etc - you have to grapple with the elements of that form - songs, music, lyrics, scales, song form, et all - and re-do them somehow. This has been done, but rarely, to my taste, in an interesting way.
