just telling the truth, COUW - Silver's a great pianist and composer; Art Blakey was a great bandleader and he screwed everybody. I think it makes us see the HUMAN side with stories like these - you're not in Kansas anymore (as I used to tell Count Basie) -

I can't give the name, but I'm absolutely certain the story is true - as I got it directly from the musician - well, everybody's got their own quirks -

I'm working from memory here, but be aware that Bird didn't always play it the same way - especially the ending, as I recall -

well...there's a certain story about a bassist who was supposed to tour with Silver; Silver sent him a cassette of the music they were going to play. The bassist later had to cancel; Silver (and this is absolutely true) sent him a bill for the cassette, for about $2 -

Actually that's not bad: 1) Irving Berlin - wrote many great songs played by jazz musicians 2) Zez Confrey - excellent rag composer and pianist - as a matter of fact his 1921 recordings are almost identical in sound and feeling and swing to Eubie Blake - 3) Ferde Grofe - great arranger, wrote excellent jazz and jazz/classical pieces for Paul Whiteman 4) George Gershwin - great composer of pop songs, not to mention Concerto in F -

I'm going to revive this - I just saw these guys on Live at the Knitting Factory on TV - ok, but hardly earth shaking, as amatter of fact, if you've watched them for 5 minutes you've seen pretty much everything that they can do - so I checked out the reviews on their web site and was astounded at how great they are (the reviews, I mean) - I am mystified - can anyone explain this?
