  1. I'm running out of names - Justin Guarini -
  2. actually, interestingly enough, Dexter just testified, in a seance, that he agreed with me - here's the link - http://www.immakingthisupgobacktosleep.com
  3. well, maybe we don't have to hate - just dislike - and Dexter who?
  4. Phil Grenadier - actually I've never heard him, but I'm trying to keep things rolling here...
  5. Aureola?
  6. Curley Howard - bad opera singer -
  7. Adolph Hitler - played the Jew's Harp (and refused to give it back) -
  8. I can see I may be alone on this - I know it's not as fascinating as the fart thread - let me add another two: Richard Nixon (played piano, dropped bombs on innocent people) Harry Truman (played piano, dropped an atomic bomb on another country, killing innocent people)
  9. actually - and this is absolutely true - I've just read in TV guide that there's going to be one of those celebrity boxing matches between Condi Rice and Diana Krall - on the Fox network, June 2 - here's the link - http://www.imfullofshitandwhyareyouwasting...readingthis.com
  10. I've been accused of being too negative on certain threads (of course, that in itself is a negative comment, but we won't get into that now) - I'm going to start a thread here and anyone can join in - the idea is to get it all out of our negative systems, to name, here, jazz musicians we don't like or that we may even hate - the only rule I would propose is that no reasons be give and no arguments pro or con - just names - and I would suggest we avoid the more obvious names like Kenny G - and maybe, if we feel like it, thrown in the name of a non-jazz musician, just to keep it interesting - I will start: Marion Meadows Chuck Folds
  11. Fats Waller and Count Basie -
  12. and Tommy - but we'll need a couple of shovels -
  13. Ted Williams was good but he was no Marv Throneberry -
  14. I've only been playing for 5 years, but what I found helpful was training myself to start virtually anywhere on the neck and to know, from that position, the intervals of scale -
  15. I count 49 -
  16. he who smelt it... he who denied it...
  17. A Joe Albany story - Joe was a great guy but the years of drugs and drink had definitely had a powerful effect -one night he was playing Ornithology at the West End Cafe; a friend of mine, Jeff Fuller, was on bass. The end of the tune comes, and they play the head - the final turn-around arrives (the chromatic decent from the B minor chord) - and Joe plays it - and than plays it again - and than again and again - maybe 12 times - the band just watches, playing along; I'm gripping the edge of my chair - finally he stops - Jeff looks at me and says, "yeah, I know how you feel" -
  18. yes- I've heard the working title of his book is "For Few Dollars More"
  19. to me Bud Powell is still the great and unrecognized composer - one half of a measure and you know who wrote the tune -
  20. could be...either that or another Vietnam flashback from my courtmartial -
  21. "some patented non-specified hearsay anecdotal thread-crap?" YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH
  22. just telling the truth, COUW - Silver's a great pianist and composer; Art Blakey was a great bandleader and he screwed everybody. I think it makes us see the HUMAN side with stories like these - you're not in Kansas anymore (as I used to tell Count Basie) -
  23. yes - the more finalized version appears to be the one where the melody outlines the turnaround chords at the end -
  24. well, at least Miles made Trane run on time -
  25. check out the Dial version and than the various broadcast versions released on Savoy -
