I don't think that they were looking at presenting anything much above lowbrow at all. Very frequent stabs at highbrow mentality which according to an interview I saw with Lloyd and Croft is right where they wanted it. Actually, the classes of ridiculous self-importance amongst the characters with their various faux pas puts it precisely in that area of social satire that made it work so well. This comment reminds me of my brother-in-law who said that he hated Rowan Atkinson because "he acts so stupid" - well DUH!

Inman showed up here in Dallas for fund raising and hosted a public dinner that just happened to fall on my birthday. Our Dallas station has the distinction of being the first in the nation to broadcast British comedies. Back in '74, they began with Monty Python and kept adding others as the years went by. They kinda got stuck on the same old ones during the Bush years because of the cutbacks on funding, but they began promising new ones just last month. I remember that they tried to show this really funny show from New Zealand, but they got all kinds of negative feedback from people who wanted only British comedies. ( )

Yes, she was wonderful. She showed up here in Dallas a few times to promote our local PBS affiliate and she would tell the funniest stories. Also, there's a wonderful special called something like "The Women (or Queens?) of British Comedy" that's a wonderful tribute as well as a program from about 6 or 7 years ago that was a tribute just to her - both worth seeking out if your local PBS station doesn't play them in the next few weeks.

I'm less than 20 miles from Jim and use, with Lon, AT$T.yahoo as provider, so the Texas idea may not be the prob in this case. I always recommend shutting the router down for a minute or two, then a restart, but other than that, I'm stumped.

Yup .:., it's a MacPro with the Nehalem processor with the 16 virtual cores and 4 drive bays. I've been waiting for the 7200 rpm 2TB drives to show up - I think they're beginning to come out now - before filling the 4 drive bays with them...and waiting for all of the legal hoopla to settle on the Blu-Rays before putting those in the front drive bays. I'm big on maxing stuff out and keeping things for a long time. This replaces a G4/867 from 2001 that had 1.5GB of RAM - which I was told at the time was a CrAzY amount, but look at it these days!

It's a suggestion. Memory is so incredibly cheeeeep these days. Even if you're not using any kind of major software, at the very least it helps load the O-Forum pages faster. It's like eyesight that slowly diminishes and you get an adjustment to your glasses and you realize "Hey!" Good to consider a boost to 1 Gig - you'll appreciate it afterward. ®

Well, the Swine Flu in general is endemic in pigs, but this '09 version hasn't actually been found in pigs. It's kind of a misnomer for that reason, but it has genes that are closely related to swine flu, so it's been, somewhat erroneously given that name.

Back in the days of the CD store, JazzTimes sent a promo package about their magazine. Nothing wrong with a little promotion - trying to get their magazine carried in the store, but after reading material that crowed about their love and respect for jazz, the cover of the magazine that they sent - the cover - had Monk's name spelled incorrectly! When I got a call a couple weeks later from someone representing them, I told him that it was a bit hard to take them seriously with a goof-up like this. He got belligerent and hung up. So much for JazzTimes.
