  1. Yup, it's one of those sloppy but endearing sides from the 80's that showed up at a store that I was managing - along with some Big Star material and, IIRC, at least one other Chilton side. They seemed to suddenly begin appearing around the time of the New Rose sides. Rod
  2. Actually, Roadrunner was often part of their set.
  3. Real shame. Gonna have to find the "Dusted in Memphis" LP around here. It's been awhile.
  4. Hits me a lot like Peelie's death years ago. Gonna miss those broadcasts of his. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8573682.stm
  5. I agree with you about the iPad and it's possibilities beyond music. The music is theoretically the music that you already own, so there's no waiting for these services to provide the obscure - as you say - music because it will already be uploaded from your collection (and other collections as well). I think the "problems" alluded to in the subject line are the problems that music companies will have with your ability to listen to something in the cloud that you don't already own. But, this ability has been available (disregarding radio's history if you will) for quite a few years, so it's really an Aunt Sally.
  6. Wow! Rather dramatic!
  7. Yes, some folks might consider that a problem.
  8. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work when an app like Simplify Media will let you listen to your home collection worldwide.

  10. I read that he left nearly £3 million to his partner. Good thing that there was a civil partnership 'cause the taxman would've taken a big chunk of that. "I'm tax free!"
  11. My guess is the one that says exactly what you just said... I'll have to wade thru them and find that one.
  12. Not sure which comments in particular that you wanted me to read, but I'll say that telling people to turn the volume "all the way up for those higher frequencies" is definitely NOT what you want people to do! For all kinds of physiological reasons you do not want to do this folks, unless you enjoy the thrill of possible sudden or delayed disorientation coupled with vomiting that could result from doing this. I suppose that what one could get from the comments are the words from the people who may have been sorry that they even tried the test ("...My ears are aching now, and i tried the frequency test over 10mins ago. absolutely aching...") The very fact that in both instances the tests are using 192kbps mp3s of what we are to believe were originally pure wave sine tones makes this test not only useless in it's best form (imagine someone testing your eyes for color perception while filtering the 400-700 nanometer wavelength scale), but incredibly dangerous in it's worst because people are hearing wide-spectrum partials and are under the assumption that their hearing is better than they believed, so they end up turning up the volume - enough to hear the specific higher frequencies that they think that they're hearing ("Wow! I can hear 18k with no problem and I'm 80!"...there's also the guy who stated that he could hear 30k freq. ) - while subjecting their ears to partial tones that are bombarding and, in some cases, destroying certain frequency-specific cilia as the vibrations make their way thru their Organ of Corti. High frequency tones (but not always as high as you may think that you're hearing) are still dangerous to your inner ear. If you really want to test your hearing, I'd advise that it be done under supervised conditions - in person - using pure-wave sine tones instead of subjecting yourselves to meaningless and potentially dangerous aggravation of your inner ears.
  13. but these are mp3s too!
  14. oh sheeesh...i just realized what it is: "Download the MP3 directly" ok, so much for that test...
  15. Yes it is! I think Sachiko plays to all age groups with her tones. I've always tried to add some upper-range frequencies to my work, but it has to be 16 to 19K to be fully effective for those that I call the "teenage ampst" generation.
  16. The partials are louder than the single 14k sine tone that I think that they want you to try hearing, so I guess, yeah, I can hear it at age 51.
  17. Hold yer nose
  18. Last month, I heard this hippy-shit cum beat (off) dream thing that he's shopping around called Autodreamographical Tales. Man, what a real disappointment (to put it mildly). I really think that he's spread himself way too thin over the years. It's OK to say "NO" Terry when they come bangin' on their tin cans. ...agree with David: try Shri Camel (if you're not averse to "unusual" tunings) and I still love the early, but recently re-released (ca. 3 years ago), recordings of Les Yeux Fermes & Lifespan on a single disc. A bit harder to find, Persian Surgery Dervishes is another natural step off of the Rainbow....

  20. Hegewisch Records, Jazz Record Mart, and Rose Records were my hangouts during those days and it becomes a kind of good time blur thinking back, but I'd say it was sometime before mid-January '74 - it feels like it was at least a year earlier than that to me. Maybe knowing his overseas timeline might help me pin it down - or maybe he was back for a short visit - I don't know... I remember asking him (not knowing at the time that he had been gone) whether he still had his dog. I remember his occasional barefoot presence at Rose Records with his German Shepherd(?), so it gave me an extra subject (other than his music) to talk to him about. Subsequent meetings were less nervous events because I found that he was extremely easy to talk with. The last time I saw him, I gave him a composition of mine and he stated that he had a substantial library of music scores where it would find a good home.
  21. I was standing at the counter at the Jazz Record Mart when the artwork for that LP arrived. I'm guessing it was for Bob's approval? I happened to be right there when a woman who had come in with Braxton was trying to return it to it's carrying bag. I caught the long edge of it as it slid over the top of the bag keeping it from crashing to the floor of the store. Don't remember there being text on it at the time. I remember being pleasantly surprised when it showed up later as a new release.
  22. Yeah...well, the asshole factor was certainly double around these parts. Six months earlier in Chicago, I only had to deal with suburban rockers who wanted to beat the shit outta me!
  23. at the 2:52 point in the video is the girl who introduced us! Rod
  24. yup! ...but I prefer this one ('cause my sweetheart and I were there):
  25. Betcha John Lydon's having a good laugh now.
