  1. Yup...all is forgiven... The little girl is a sweetheart, but the boy is a furry "Dennis the Menace" sometimes. When he's not searching for things to get into he can be extremely affectionate much of the time too, so all is OK... ...until the next time
  2. Oh sheesh...I'd have a lot more than "Frat Rock" to be embarrassed about! Plus, I think the term "frat rock" changed over the years. I'd still listen to these today from this LP: The Human Beinz ("Nobody But Me"); The Swingin' Medallions ("Double Shot of My Baby's Love"); Dynatones ("Shout")... Those Bob Wills Tiffanys are gems!
  3. No, I don't think so... ...that would be in storage...
  4. down the back toilet (nearly)
  5. ...make sure that you move your boxsets to higher shelves... (re-attached, this morning, a two-inch chunk to the bottom of the very rare Psilotripitaka set)
  6. This is an ambitious site for pronunciations - and it doesn't necessarily feature the personal names that we frequently search for here, BUT, it seems to be fun and informative: "All the Words in the World. Pronounced." [if you go to the "Listen & Learn" link, you'll get 30 randomly chosen words].
  7. "Cover is 6 (clean front with minor wear, minor wear upper corners; original owner-- one Arthur C. Gordon of Saugus,MA--went overboard with his small stamp, using it 11 times on back, the primary defect and the reason the cover isn’t a strong 7 / soft 8. What was he thinking?)..."
  8. INCREDIBLE! The Cast, the pacing of the story lines, the effects...
  9. Second time visiting a new cafe just a mile away that I believe is a growing franchise: Another Broken Egg Cafe. It was kind of hard to concentrate on anything else while Rahsaan, then Lee Morgan and a continuing line of great artists were playing over the sound system. The waitress said that the owner is a jazz fan and "gets upset when it's stormy out and can't get his station to come in" (apparently satellite). Good experience and good food with reasonable prices...and, of course, GREAT music!
  10. "RANDY CAIN, who was a founding member of Philly soul band the Delfonics and who sang on such hits as "La La Means I Love You," and "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)," died Thursday. He was 63." more here
  11. Narrowcasted the whole set three times within the past week or so. Favorable comments from listeners. No probs with any of the tracks. Of course there's no "remastering" 'cause...you know...it was never "mastered" in the first place. Surprisingly good considering the source with typical attention by Transparency in getting the best out of what they have. Makes me want to go back and listen again to the Horseshow Tavern discs. I still wish Michael would get some kind of proper webpage to sell/promote these items on his label instead of that godawful MySpace page. Also, I've noticed some online comments concerning great photos of the performances, but all I can see are two - the front and back cover shots, so I'm not sure what that's all about. Anyway, great set of performances for a great price of a great bunch of musicians. ® --- Now playing: Sun Ra - Live at Slug's Saloon: Discipline #? - the Shadow World - Discipline #? (Organ Prelude, Theme, Alto, Applause)
  12. Revelator is a good disc if you're into darkly atmospheric stuff. Skopelitis is on dozens of good recordings, but of his solo ones, you've got one of - if not THE - best.
  13. In 3.0.8 now. Always worked great for me these past few years. Gave up on Safari way back because it would crash only when I visited here.
  14. Tho FM transmission is inherently poorer than auxiliary and even cassette in many cases, the wide range of people offering these FM transmitters has been growing quickly. If the product is well-made, you can really get it to work even in areas of station congestion. Belkin and Griffin are the worst (meaning: weakest). After researching, I was sold on "AirPlay" (XtremeMac) which has worked great for me not only in densely populated US cities (Washington DC and environs, for instance), but has worked flawlessly in large European cities. Often it would narrowcast right on top of stations that were actually broadcasting on the lower ends of the spectrum and force my iPod to overrule the local station. Excellent and fits in the palm of your hand. I've heard that "PodFreq" (Sonnet) is even better and the same about the Kensington unit just mentioned, but I haven't tried either. Anyway, it seems that if Apple does it right, this new chip could make it even better than what's out there. We shall see... Looking forward to Last.FM in the car (far better than Pandora, methinks).
  15. No. I'm probably going to, reluctantly, buy it. I like Brian and I like nearly everything on his label proper (as opposed to the "Avant" series) and so that's incentive. I'm curious about the performance, but lots of things about it make me skeptical - to put it mildly - about what I may be in for once that disc starts spinning. The liner note excerpt that you posted... the smattering of Tierkreis amongst (and within in one case) the tracks.. the mention of "improvisation" as having anything to do with either Stockhausen work (or cut-and-splice bits to be more accurate)...are giving me pause in considering this disc. The idea of "respect" may be there to a shallow degree, but devoting some time to learning about the pieces and their proper performance would show the utmost in respect.
  16. "Satellite radio will die soon anyway, but Apple will accidentally perform a mercy killing of Sirius XM Radio this summer. That is, if the rumors are true (and they probably are)." "The first rumor is that Apple will ship in June or July a new iPhone and a new iPod Touch, both of which containing a new Broadcom BCM4329 chip that would give the gadgets 802.11n wireless. That would boost Wi-Fi, but even more interestingly enable the devices to broadcast music to any car stereo via FM. (Users simply set their car radios to the "station" that the iPhone or iPod is broadcasting on, and they can play over car speakers whatever the iPhone is playing. The feature would enable only buyers of new iPhones and new iPod touches to play audio in any car with an FM radio." "The second rumor..." continued...
  17. OK, just wondering. If you were to use much more than what you've described above, then there would be "sirius" issues with this disc that you could consider for your review.
  18. Back in February, one of my Last.FM compadres offered me "83 hours of the Beatles' Abbey Road sessions."
  19. Aurora "Wolf" Di Meola has her opinion. I still think much of RTF is pixie-ass wanking.
  20. he didn't get very far - 77 discs? maybe he dropped dead of ennui. Like the idea of random pickings and blogging about it tho.
  21. Nate, I'm curious what you generally look for in reviewing discs. Of course, sound quality and, possibly general interest, but are there other criteria such as how freely interpretive a performer or group of performers are, etc. Rod
  22. What I've heard I've liked so it's not a hatred or dislike (tho I haven't heard a full LP). I just don't think I've ever felt the desire for popular culture. If it was always popular on the radio, that was usually enough - no need to own it.
  23. Funny decision. I'd think that it'd be a bit late to come out with these? CDs are sliding away - even downloading is slipping already into streaming. There are some tempting tidbits offered, so I feel a bit compelled to make it my first Beatles purchase after 50 years on this planet, but maybe it's best to wait to see what the hardcore think about the whole package (original covers, annotation, etc.).
  24. Thanks Nate. It gives me a bit more perspective on where they're coming from. Mode just sent out info to those on their mailing list with details on the recording. Text for Setz Die Segel Zur Sonne: Play a tone for so long until you hear its individual vibrations Hold the tone and listen to the tones of the others - to all of them together, not to individual ones - and slowly move your tone until you arrive at complete harmony and the whole sound turns to gold to pure, gently shimmering fire The page that Alexander mentions is from an old friend named Bob Price. The upper text is NOT a Stockhausen statement. It is a text that Bob has placed there.
  25. I have no ideas.
