What's the funniest thing you've seen at a concert?
rostasi replied to PHILLYQ's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Waldick Soriano & Falcão. It's one of his most popular songs. I even have a couple of DJ remixes of that song. -
Actress Mollie Sugden ("Are You Being Served?") has died
rostasi replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes, she was wonderful. She showed up here in Dallas a few times to promote our local PBS affiliate and she would tell the funniest stories. Also, there's a wonderful special called something like "The Women (or Queens?) of British Comedy" that's a wonderful tribute as well as a program from about 6 or 7 years ago that was a tribute just to her - both worth seeking out if your local PBS station doesn't play them in the next few weeks. -
What the heck has been goin' on lately?

Gale Storm, perky star of 1950s TV, dies at 87 LOS ANGELES — Gale Storm, whose wholesome appearance and perky personality made her one of early television's biggest stars on "My Little Margie" and "The Gale Storm Show," has died at age 87. Storm, who had been in failing health in recent years, died Saturday at a convalescent hospital in Danville, said her son, Peter Bonnell. Before landing the starring role in "My Little Margie" in 1952, Storm appeared in numerous B movies opposite such stars as Roy Rogers, Eddie Albert and Jackie Cooper. After her last TV series, "The Gale Storm Show," ended in 1960 she went on to a successful singing career while continuing to make occasional TV appearances...

Well, I think you're at that point where you may be hitting that wall. Everything that Kevin said in his post is wise and you should consider. ®

Vintage Vanguard/Gokudo Site - Still There?
rostasi replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I'm less than 20 miles from Jim and use, with Lon, AT$T.yahoo as provider, so the Texas idea may not be the prob in this case. I always recommend shutting the router down for a minute or two, then a restart, but other than that, I'm stumped. -
Yup .:., it's a MacPro with the Nehalem processor with the 16 virtual cores and 4 drive bays. I've been waiting for the 7200 rpm 2TB drives to show up - I think they're beginning to come out now - before filling the 4 drive bays with them...and waiting for all of the legal hoopla to settle on the Blu-Rays before putting those in the front drive bays. I'm big on maxing stuff out and keeping things for a long time. This replaces a G4/867 from 2001 that had 1.5GB of RAM - which I was told at the time was a CrAzY amount, but look at it these days!

This is very nice... Oraison which was composed for six Ondes Martenot is played on a Buchla 200e. Nice simple visuals too!

It's a suggestion. Memory is so incredibly cheeeeep these days. Even if you're not using any kind of major software, at the very least it helps load the O-Forum pages faster. It's like eyesight that slowly diminishes and you get an adjustment to your glasses and you realize "Hey!" Good to consider a boost to 1 Gig - you'll appreciate it afterward. ®

I think John Hammond was right when he said that Sista Rosetta invented the rock and roll guitar:

OK, please delete. I have posted this over on the Varèse thread.

"Edgard Varèse conducts a workshop with jazzmen Art Farmer (trumpet), Hal McKusik (clarinet, alto sax), Teo Macero (tenor sax), Eddie Bert (trombone), Frank Rehak (trombone), Don Butterfield (tuba), Hall Overton (piano), Charlie Mingus (bass), Ed Shaughnessy (drums), probably John La Porta (alto sax)..."

KERA to start Triple A NPR station in Dallas
rostasi replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yes, I heard about this yesterday afternoon. They bought the frequency now used by a religious station (oh, the irony). Instead of turning the station into a progressive station that we sorely need, they've decided that we want to be serenaded by lesbian folk singers, """"""world"""""" music, and world-weary twenty-somethings with a guitar and "sensitive" lyrics. Oh boy! Can't wait!!! ® -
I'm in 3.0.10 and I still organize my bookmarks like a champion. I haven't stumbled upon "StumbleUpon" so I can't tell you what that's all about. ...and with my new machine, nothing is slow. Oh, and I'll add that I love Yoono, so I don't see myself giving it up anytime soon. Oh, and the Discoveries widget with the "Surprise" feature is great too... Oh, and the Kanji-lish addon as well as the Fast Video Download... ®

Back in the days of the CD store, JazzTimes sent a promo package about their magazine. Nothing wrong with a little promotion - trying to get their magazine carried in the store, but after reading material that crowed about their love and respect for jazz, the cover of the magazine that they sent - the cover - had Monk's name spelled incorrectly! When I got a call a couple weeks later from someone representing them, I told him that it was a bit hard to take them seriously with a goof-up like this. He got belligerent and hung up. So much for JazzTimes.

Has anyone found a way to actually kill
rostasi replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, it really is the answer. If it's gone beyond that to where they've become a real destructive problem, then Howard's made good sense for the decades that I've followed his advice. DE has been a regular natural product around this house for the rare out-of-control real pest (instead of the simply perceived pest: spiders, wasps, geckos, a.o.) for decades too, but much of the effective products, tho, will be found in places that you probably wouldn't find guys like Berigan stepping into anyway: independently-owned nurseries that recognize the corrupt policies of the huge conglomerates. The organic nurseries are often the ones that advocate natural solutions instead of pouring poisonous chemicals on your yard that quickly run off into your community water supply. A natural-based nursery in the area may also have a natural predator such as Phorid flies which enter the ant and lay eggs. The eggs hatch and eat the fire ant from the inside out - usually inside it's head. The head falls off, the ant is dead and the flies become free to later lay eggs inside other fire ants. Nature at work.
