  1. I understand that the mono box will be released in a numbered limited edition of 10,000. Whether there will be an unlimited number of unnumbered sets or not is not clear, at least not to me
  2. One night coming home from a gig, we had the classical station on in the car. Art insisted on sitting in the driveway until the song was over. It was so beautiful Art had to know what it was. It was Kathleen Ferrier singing Brahms's Alto Rhapsody. Excellent taste
  3. Nope, it was fake, as was shown in the thread. Someone was trying to be funny.
  4. My thoughts exactly.
  5. According to someone on the Hoffman forum who called Mosaic today, they found 50 Woody Herman sets, 18 Classic Capitol Jazz sets, and about 100 Horace Parlan sets. The Parlan is the only set left.
  6. To my amazement the Parlan set is still there. Grab it while you can
  7. You beat me to it By the way, the original poster has been a member since June 2007.
  8. No, these Yazoo Patton CDs sound better than the Revenant: The Best of Charlie Patton - Yazoo 2069 Primeval Blues, Rags, and Gospel Songs - Yazoo 2074
  9. They wouldn't be allowed to sell them; they had to withdraw the set because there was a problem with the rights. I wish I had known you were looking for this set when a friend of mine was selling it cheaply in his record/CD shop a few months ago. I'll go one further and strongly recommend it. I second that!
  10. The Herman and Capitol sets are gone. The Parlan's still there.
  11. I just got this message from Mosaic: A WAREHOUSE FIND A few weeks ago our manufacturing plant notified us that they had a few sets on hand for three out-of-print sets. We had extra booklets and boxes and their find is now some jazz fans good fortune as we always aim to put these sets into as many jazz fans as possible. Also please be assured that these are part of the limited edition, as we did not sell out the full edition before the lease for our pressing of the recordings expired. #196 The Complete Capitol Recordings of Woody Herman (6 CDs) - $96 These Capitol recordings feature not only outstanding arrangers such as Neal Hefti, Manny Albam, Bill Holman, Billy May and Ralph Burns but masterful musicians such as Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Stan Getz, Serge Chaloff, Conte Candoli, Bill Harris and Cy Touff. #197 The Complete Blue Note Horace Parlan Sessions (5 CDs) - $80 "I didn't know much about Parlan except what I had heard and liked on recordings with the Charles Mingus Band. Anyway, I took a chance and discovered that this is a beautiful set all the way through. The rapport of these bands is a delight and I've repeatedly enjoyed all the discs. This is what Mosaic is all about. Thanks." - Customer Review #170 Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions (12 CDs) - $192 "While the horn players like Teagarden, Cootie and Rex, Wardell Gray and Hasselgard are well served in perhaps their best ever surroundings, and Norvo and Kessell are given good platforms, it is the long and dazzling line of pianists that I find most impressive." - Steve Voce, Jazz Journal International
  12. Bear Family sued JSP for stealing their Carter Family box mastering and won (link). Every Bear Family mastering is now copyrighted.
  13. Oldies.com sucks.....ordered from them before......they seem to get their thrills putting hole punches and cut-out marks all the time in their stuff.....that's probably why everybody's orders are taking so long cause they have to spend all that time punching holes in barcodes instead of shipping out stuff. ......I got hole punches in stuff that I payed full price for a couple of years ago. OJC CDS even at 4.98 are not an instant money maker at that price so I don't know what the hell their thinking about. Why anybody on this board wastes their time ordering from these PORN PEDDLERS is beyond me......I got my goods last month in the REAL concord blowout sale. And yes I don't like cut out marks or hole punches or any other marks that effect any portion of the product. It detracts from the future collectiblity of the product and is uncalled for when selling to individual collectors. It's not the retailers who put holes and cutout marks in jewel cases, that's done by the record companies. (edit) Just noticed Chuck's post above about this
  14. Hopefully Watson will still be there tomorrow afternoon. Magnificent player!
  15. Yep, in my opinion this is the one to get.
  16. No, it isn't. CODA (with a message from Mark Barnes dated June 1, 2009)
  17. Staying up for the All-Star game, Hans? No, unfortunately not; my TV set broke down, so...
  18. Larry, It's on my list - see the Brownsville section, first CD. You're right, it's essential. re-read Larry's post. My mistake. My apologies to Larry (it's late over here - 1:45 AM - but that's no excuse )
  19. No, I wouldn't spend $40.00 on it. Buy it from a marketplace seller on Amazon.com. Newbury Comics is selling a new one there for $15.99 as of this posting. You just gotta love Newbury Comics. Seconded. True Blue Music isn't bad either, but unfortunately their prices are rather high in comparison.

  21. Get the Yazoo instead, it has the same tracks and much better sound; it has more hiss etc. but doesn't sound as dead as the Columbia. Amazon I don't agree. I think that the Yazoo is overwhelmed with hiss. I don't find the Columbia to sound dead. I was thankful when the Columbia CD came out, because my Yazoo was just so noisy that it distracted me too much. I realize that this type of opinion would get me laughed off of the Steve Hoffman forum, to pick one example, but that's the way I hear it. To each their own I find the to my ears "dead" sound on CDs like the Mississippi John Hurt Columbia much worse than the - again, to my ears - "livelier" and more natural sound on the Yazoo. By the way, I wasn't referring to the Hoffman forum. There are hardly any lovers of pre-war blues over there and many so-called blues (and jazz, for that matter) lovers there don't know what they're talking about.

  23. Any news?
  24. Analogue Productions owner Chad Kassem told me that these are not numbered limited editions - which does not answer the question whether or not they will be repressed once the current run is depleted.
