  1. Here's a 2-page AMG list with a few jazz versions with sound samples. I have no idea which ones are guitar versions. I hope this helps
  2. 62, way too young. Sad news.
  3. Just use the "report" buttons of the other two and ask the moderators to delete them.
  4. Slow here too.
  5. Why don't you e-mail Mosaic and ask them to hold the set(s) for you?
  6. Yeah, I highly doubt that a small niche company like Mosaic has any influence on what Sony/BMG keeps in print and what not... I guess it's rather the influence of Org that has brought too many lurkers to snatch up the remaining Ellington sets around and now we missed it (me, too, but since the Mosaic is now definitely announced, I don't mind much). Well, it's not been announced definitely yet, that happens when it appears on their site, on the "upcoming sets" page. It's still not 100% certain the set will actually be released.
  7. I doubt it, the Mosaic is not scheduled for release until some time in 2010.
  8. Yes, you have made that very clear more than once in this thread. Thank you
  9. Wikipedia's description of mastering (for what it's worth)
  10. Haven't read it, but here are a few remarks (including Chris Albertson's) about it on a blues forum. Not so positive LA Times review
  11. I don't have the OKeh set anymore, but if I remember correctly Sonic Solutions' NoNOISE was used on the set; it sounded quite dead to my ears and I preferred the (long OOP) French Masters of Jazz CDs. Your mileage may vary
  12. Pre-1932 Brunswick recordings are now owned by Universal, the 1932-1939 Brunswick recordings by Sony/BMG.
  13. As mentioned earlier in this thread and elsewhere on the forum this will be a 1930s box, so the answer to your question is no. The years covered in this set will be 1932-1939.
  14. The Scottish Hep label has released two Claude Hopkins CDs with material recorded in 1933-1935. Monkey Business 1935 Transcriptions
  15. Probably 10 according to Mosaic.
  16. Ah yes, but as I posted on that other thread, will it also leave out the vocals? There were some great ones in Duke's band during this period--Ivie Anderson for sure, and Al Hibbler too I think. Inquiring minds want to know! Not that I won't get it, of course! greg mo The Ellington set will have Ivie Anderson vocals, but, since the set is limited to Ellington's 1930s Brunswick/Columbia recordings, no Al Hibbler vocals - he didn't join until the 1940s.
  17. As I posted elsewhere on the forum I just heard from Mosaic's Scott Wenzel that the Ellington 1930s big-band set is scheduled for release in late 2010. It will contain only Brunswick/Columbia material.
  18. As I posted in Ghost's Artie Shaw Mosaic thread I just heard from Mosaic's Scott Wenzel that the Ellington 1930s big-band set is scheduled for release in late 2010.
  19. Sad news (again...)
  20. J.A.W.

    Anthony Braxton

"Veröffentlicht 12/1899", or "released 12/1899". This must be something special
  21. I don't believe that it actually exists. There's the JRVG that you've heard before...plus a couple of TOCJ reissues from 2005 and 2007 (6500 & 7000 series???) No DD in that 4000 Series. Jackie McLean's Demon's Dance was never issued in the "Blue Note Works" series, so TOCJ-4345 does not exist.
  22. Shipping for this set to Europe, in Canadian dollars: Priority Worldwide INTL, 115.09 XPressPost International, 60.87 Small Packets Air, 48.39 Parcel Surface, 33.26 Small Packets Surface, 20.01 The cheapest option is still Canadian $20.01...
  23. I'd say bad masterings, with boosted higher frequencies.
  24. I had quite a few Fantasy hybrid SACDs. I never heard the SACD layers, so I can't comment on those, but I wasn't impressed by the CD layers on the ones I've listened to. The Gil Evans Chuck mentioned is an exception, though; wonderful music and excellent mastering. Highly recommended!
