  1. Pity her earlier work with Andy Kirk's Clouds of Joy is so poorly represented on CD. I only have a few discs and the sound on most of them is horrible.
  2. I've always found this Parker box a mixed bag. The JATP sessions are not my cup of tea, and neither are the dates with strings. The small-group sessions are the best in my opinion, though I don't really like the ones with Buddy Rich.
  3. Why don't you go to Mosaic's upcoming releases page (scroll down) and read the description of the Goodman set? The discography will appear on Mosaic's site as soon as the set is up for pre-order, probably later this month. Some of the stuff has been released on the Scottish Hep Jazz label, mastered by the late John R.T. Davies.
  4. I have no idea
  5. Really? That's what he told me and there seems to be some truth in it, otherwise Amazon would normally be selling them but as far as I know they're only available from sellers on Amazon Marketplace.
  6. I'll bet those sound sweet! Yep, they do and sonically I prefer them to the Mosaic, although that set isn't bad either. I sold the Mosaic when I got the TOCJs. For those interested: the TOCJs are long gone and pretty hard to find. Get the Mosaic instead!
  7. Yeah. That one is turning out to be elusive as a 'deal'. The owner of a CD store in Austria told me yesterday that Universal Europe deleted the Buddy Rich set some time ago and that it's been hard to find ever since, so I guess you'll have to get it from Mosaic if you really want this one.
  8. This is indeed a great set and I'd immediately order it if I didn't already have the Japanese "Blue Note Works" TOCJs, which only omit a few alternates.
  9. The excellent Horace Parlan Mosaic is running low. Get it while you can!
  10. Mine was the full shebang.. So was mine. Mine still is
  11. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel told me that, as things stand, the Braxton, Goodman and Akiyoshi/Tabackin sets will be up for pre-order at the end of September 2008.
  12. Why don't you call them: 203.327.7111 (9-5 EST Mon-Fri) or e-mail them at info@mosaicrecords.com ?
  13. I just noticed that he joined on March 8, 2005, posted 15 times and didn't come back here after March 9, 2005
  14. I've only listened to disc 1 so far and, considering the age of the recordings and the fact that some tracks were taken from 78s and LPs because there were no tape sources, to my ears it sounds pretty good. The tape transfers were done by Ellen Fitton, the disc transfers by Malcolm Addey, Dr Michael Arie and Mark Wilder and the set was mastered by Malcolm Addey.
  15. This new rule might have something to do with copyright.
  16. I only have the domestic RVG of this title, and I've never cared for the mastering on it. I've been looking for a TOCJ of this for quite some time, not knowing if there ever was one to begin with. Does anyone know if this is a different mastering than the original TOCJ? At this price, I'm very tempted to just say "heck with it" and buy it anyway. Speak No Evil was released in the Toshiba "Blue Note Works" series on April 26, 1995: TOCJ-4194.
  17. It's not an "upgrade" to my ears, I prefer the 1980s CDs. However, the Mosaic's fine for someone who doesn't have those CDs.
  18. That thread was also started by tranemonk... Noticed that too. indeed...
  19. Very true and annoying. I also find it annoying that some posters over there who picked up a few Hoffman-mastered jazz albums but never listened to jazz before, are talking as if they know all about it...
  20. Those two Jimmie Lunceford CDs are excellent. One of the great big bands of the 1930s. Highly recommended!
  21. By all means, don't make rash decisions. I don't think anybody in this thread has recommended doing so. My point was once you've made a decision to get a divorce, don't dawdle. Exactly; I totally agree.
  22. Good advice, and I'm speaking from personal experience - we weren't married, but my girlfriend and I "officially" lived together; once we had signed the separation papers and she had moved out, things improved fast. Take care.
