  1. I'm sorry?? You'd better verify statements like that first before you make them. I take exception to your insinuation
  2. You're probably right, though you never know - not everyone here has ordered 30 or more CDs from Concord to qualify for that $2.98 price tag, which, by the way, is for U.S. customers only. Edit: Ragu has posted these auctions on at least one other board too.
  3. He's selling them on eBay, so I don't think the Concord sale will be a problem.
  4. Plus these compilations: Hot Rocks More Hot Rocks (Big Hits and Fazed Cookies)
  5. I'd pick these: The Rolling Stones (their first) 12X5 Out of Our Heads (U.S. version) December's Children The Rolling Stones, Now! Aftermath (U.K. version) Between the Buttons (U.K. version) Beggars Banquet Let It Bleed Sticky Fingers Exile on Main St.
  6. If the OOP DCC is too expensive, the OJC is by far the best choice in my opinion.
  7. That Crusaders Box set is definitely not overrated. That is definitely a matter of taste
  8. Same here today, plus problems with PMs; I lost a few PMs when I tried to send them (yes, I did tick the "Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder" and "Track this message" boxes).
  9. Same here. So much for 'upgrading.' In general, I think the old OJC's had amazingly good sound for the time. I haven't found the upgrades of the OJC labels and Blue Note and Impulse! to be the stunning sonic revelations that some of the rock upgrades (Byrds and Spirit and Dylan come to mind especially, also the 2fer European versions of the Elektra stuff like Paul Butterfield and Tim Buckley and Judy Collins) have been. Probably due to the simplicity of the original recording (no overdubs, etc.), though I am no expect on the subject, especially in terms of the people on this board! I fully agree with your remark about the OJCs.
  10. I bought a copy of here 'tis for 17$ from Mundo in Japan and it sounds OK, except for a light distortion in the bass region of the keyboard on track 5.It is difficult to tell whether this is an input overload or the sound that actually came out of the Leslie...I'm rather inclined for the latter. One slight problem is the program order as it appears when played from media Player differs from the booklet order. Book : Foggy day-Here 'tis -Cool blues-Watusi jump-Walk with me Media player : here 'tis- Watusi jump-Walk with me-A foggy day-Cool blues Otherwise, general sound is very good.My copy bears catalog number TOCJ-6553 For the record: the TOCJ-6553 is indeed a 1500 yen "TOCJ24" remaster and not a JRVG.
  11. The sound on those Lou Donaldson TOCJs is much, much better than on the Donaldson Mosaic set. Highly recommended! PM sent on LD+3.
  12. That can't be right. My copy of "Here 'tis" is definitely a JRVJ 24 bit. Here's a scan of the back of the insert to it, and to "Lightfoot" in the next post. You'll see that the whole of the TOCJ9100 - 9251 series were JRVG24s. And they came out between and Jul 1999 and Nov 2000. I think perhaps they didn't sell too well - I picked up a good few in early 2001 (together with a bunch of Universal Victors Soul Jazz series, which also must have been going cheap). I don't know what prices I was paying, but I would never have been able to buy 26 Japanese CDs in such a short period if they were coming in at the usual price of Japanese releases. MG MG, Bluesman and I were talking about the 1500 yen 24-bit remastered non-JRVG Blue Note series, with catalogue numbers TOCJ-6XXX. Toshiba released several batches of these "TOCJ24s" in 2004-2006. Please note that these were remastered by Japanese Toshiba engineers, NOT by RVG! You are referring to the JRVG series, which are totally different.
  13. MG, The 1500 series is the latest (2005) TOJC BN reissues in 24 bit remaster, and yes they cost 1500 yen. They are actually considerably cheaper than the previous versions. The 2005 date is not correct, Toshiba released the first batches of TOCJ24s (as they were coined on this board) in 2004. I picked up dozens of these TOCJ24s, only to find out (after a few listening sessions) that I hated the sound, it's bright as you say and LOUD. Not my cup of tea. I sold most of them, though I still have a few in my "get rid of" pile.
  14. No, because I have found the IMHO definitive digital version of this album, the DCC CD from 1995. It also sounds better than the Analogue Productions SACD.
  15. Are you in Australia? MG Judging by his handle I'd say he's Dutch, though the use of the word "footy" does indeed suggest he's from Australia. I wish members would fill in their profile.
  16. Spirit The Family That Plays Together
  17. I prefer Spirit (their first album) and The Family That Plays Together. Two of my favorite albums from the late 1960s!
  18. Stupid question I've been meaning to ask for a long time: OBI="original box and inserts"? or something else? ( I know what an OBI strip is--just wondering about the derivation of the term.) As far as I know "obi" is the Japanese word for sash.
  19. One of the great pianists indeed! Sad news.
  20. They are - to say the least...
  21. Many if not most of the last group mentioned above, the first generation Toshiba pressings, have the same masterings as their U.S. counterparts, while the first and second groups, the most recent 24-bit 1500 Yen reissues and the older "Blue Note Works" TOCJs, were remastered by Toshiba engineers.
  22. The only thing I've got against the otherwise excellent Mosaic set are the (to my ears) horrid "sweet" vocals, that were so popular back in the day. The sound is OK. For those interested, these people were involved: audio restoration: Doug Pomeroy disc & tape transfers: Doug Pomeroy, Andreas Meyer, John R.T. Davies, Jack Towers mastered by Doug Pomeroy
  23. It's like, "I didn't start the forest fire, the Cigarette did when I trough it on the ground". Still breaking the law in my opinion. If it doesn't violate any laws, it's not breaking the law. Whether you like it or not, that's how it is.
