It's old stock. You can find the release date on the HMV pages when you scroll down: "This version issued"; the TOCJs I found on their site were released in the 1990s. Here's the list of TOCJ-16XX CDs that seem to be still available from HMV Japan.

Most of the "Blue Note Works" TOCJs (TOCJ-15XX, TOCJ-16XX, TOCJ-4XXX) are OOP; they haven't been repressed recently.

The CDs listed are reissues, so these lists should be posted in the "Reissues" Forum in my opinion.

FS: Universal Japan Impulse! mini-LP CDs
J.A.W. replied to Saint Vitus's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Like Mr Vitus said, these are from the Universal/Impulse! UCCI gatefold mini-LP CD series from 2001. They're all 24-bit remastered. -
If I remember correctly a quid is 20 shillings plus 1 pence? At least in 1969 when I spent the summer on the road (music gig) touring Great Britain. How that equates to today's euro is a mystery to me. A quid is slang for 1 pound. In the pre-decimal system a guinea was 20 shillings and 1 pence (20 shillings = 1 pound, while 12 pennies = 1 shilling) £1 = €1.49 or $1.86 / €1 = £0.67 or $1.25 / $1 = £0.54 or €0.80 at today's exchange rates. Nope, not quite. A guinea was a pound and one shilling (1.05 decimal). You got the rest right Hans. MG Yep, you're right of course, 1 Guinea = 21/-!

It's also been odd how slow a lot of the Adderley stuff on Capitol has been to get to CD. You would think he'd be a relatively big seller. I don't know if you're referring to Cannonball in the Land of Hi-Fi, but that's an EmArcy (now Universal) album, not a Capitol one.

My Evan Parker - Monoceros auction. Thanks for looking.

I have the 1994 reissue of the Monteux Eroica in the Philips "The Early Years" series. I must admit that it's been years since I last heard it and I don't remember how it sounds.

Which Philips historical series discs are you referring to?

You're talking about this set, right? Isn't it OOP? It is.

I couldn't agree more, especially in instances where incorrect statements on someone else's opinions are made. For the record: my opinion on the sound of the RCA versus the JSP is just a personal one, based on listening experiences.

I think "cheap knockoff" is a bit harsh as applied to this set. This material was remastered by John R. T. Davies in the 1980's, before the RCA box, and was originally sold as full price individual CD's. JSP began their box program by repackaging their original discs in low priced boxes. Admittedly they have seriously lowered their standards in recent years to compete with Proper, and their shameless Carter Family, Bob Wills, and Jimmie Rodgers sets, lifted wholesale from Bear Famiuly, have rightfully gotten them into trouble, but to my ears this set, booklet or no, is the best way to have this music. JSP entered the CD era as a quality reissue label, but they have since deteriorated into another inconsistent Proper clone. I compared the JSP to the RCA before I sold that one, and preferred the former by a large margin. SJ, I agree with what you're saying about JSP.

Here are a few comments on a couple of Retrieval sets

I've been looking for that set for ages, and I immediately ordered a copy. Thanks for the tip! Just placed an order - thanks! I got a message from Roots and Rhythm's Frank Scott last week that all their copies are sold

The Morton JSP is indeed a great set. To my ears it's much better than the RCA box.

I only have the King Oliver set. After quite some time I recently listened to it again and found it lifeless, as if a lot of noise reduction was applied. Pity, as the music is great. I've never heard any of their other releases.

You're not confusing anything, the title of McBrowne's Pacific Jazz album was indeed Lenny (or Lennie) McBrowne and the Four Souls. The title of his Riverside album was Eastern Lights. In addition to McBrowne's Pacific Jazz album, I'd like to see another relatively unknown Pacific Jazz album reissued, Ron Jefferson's Love Lifted Me. Perhaps Mighty Quinn can be persuaded to release these albums. After all, they did reissue Pepper Adams' Pacific Jazz album Critics' Choice.

All tracks from Congo Lament were reissued on Ike Quebec's Easy Living (Blue Note CDP 7 46846-2). Three tracks appeared on the Japanese "Blue Note Works" CD version (Toshiba TOCJ-4103): "See See Rider", "Congo Lament", and "Que's Pill". It's also on the Bennie Green Mosaic Select, I believe. Correct.
