  1. Well, I have asked Scott about a Henderson set. I'll report back when I hear from him. I checked and they have indeed duplicated material before so to speak, so that policy (which I was told did exist) seems to be flexible.
  2. That may be so, but fact is that they abandoned a Henderson set when they decided to go ahead with the Hawkins box. I have no idea whether they will reconsider or not, but if they do, it won't be any time soon.
  3. Th planned Henderson set was abandoned in favour of the Hawkins. Anyway, a Henderson set would duplicate numerous tracks on the Hawkins and that's against Mosaic policy of not reissuing material that they've issued before.
  4. It does, track 13 on disc 5 - see the set's discography.
  5. My thoughts exactly.
  6. Well, BYG is a French label, so it's not that strange their liner notes are not in English. Maybe time to learn French
  7. As far as I know Ace never released Sun recordings. U.K. label Charly issued lots of Sun material, but had to withdraw their releases because they turned out not to be legit. Rhino in the United States and Bear Family in Germany released CDs and boxed sets with Sun material that were legit. Looking at their website, Charly are still issuing Sun material. I have no idea whether they are legit or not. On the other hand, Charly used to issue Chess material but had to stop because of legal issues. You're absolutely right, I meant Charly's Chess releases. My bad. I wasn't aware that they are still releasing Sun material; I don't know either whether those releases are legit or not. Fact is that Ace never released Sun material.
  8. See this recent thread.
  9. Doc Watson has died. He was 89.
  10. Amazon Ryan Truesdell's Gil Evans Centennial Project, same
  11. What's with this American habit to wish dead people a happy birthday?? I see it all the time on American bulletin boards. Very weird.
  12. He posted the photo on Blindman's Blues Forum earlier today.
  13. Congratulations, Chris. I hope you don't mind my stealing this picture from you from another board.
  14. They're using UPS, unless you specifically ask for USPS.
  15. Not for me. I had a very poor education and am always looking to catch up. Any insights, even at this late stage of life, are most certainly welcome. And I'm always interested in improving my English, that's why the correct use of grammar is important to me.
  16. watch out. your participles are dangling! Please explain. Not proper English: whom I'd really like to read a good bio of. Proper English: someone about whom I'd like to read a good bio Participles (in this case: "of") should not be placed at the end of sentences. Having been married to a writer myself, I know that being a good one does not equate to someone who can necessarily handle grammar and syntax well. Very surprising --- these functions must be handled in different parts of the brain. Yep, that's what my English teacher taught me all those years ago, but if every native English speaker who makes this mistake would give me a cent, I'd be a very rich man very soon

  18. First of all, there are only 4 Deccas (New York, New York; At the Five Spot; In Kansas City; Jazz in the Space Age)-- not enough for a Select. Secondly, all with the exception of In KC have been released domestically. There is more than enough material left over from the "KC" sessions to fill out a good Select. If Mosaic did it, I'd buy it. So would I, but if Universal's Hip-O label did it, I'd have to hear it first, given my mixed experiences with the sound on their sets.

  20. Seconded, with one caveat: a few years ago they released CDs that sounded rather LOUD and harsh (don't remember any titles right now), but as far as I've heard them their more recent releases are OK. The LPs they issued in the 1980's remastered by Bob Jones are some of the best sounding records I own. He had great ears and skills and used them well. I agree. The masterings by the late Bob Jones (he died in 2009) are great. He also worked for Bear Family.

  22. Ace were the U.K. licensee of the Fantasy catalogue (including Prestige, Riverside, OJC and Specialty) before Concord bought Fantasy. Nothing shady about it. They still are the Specialty licensee.
