I noticed that too. Aggressive bunch.

I visited NYC a few times and it's a great city, but I'm glad I don't live there; I've heard too many of these harassment stories.

It's sort of like the streets of Brooklyn (not Breukelen). I was, I got quite a bit of flak from a couple of members (can't remember what it was about), but I certainly wasn't the only one.

Lots of heated political discussion, not much music discussion. Now if I have a jazz query I'm more likely to post it here (another factor is that J.C. is blocked at work and dis heah site ain't). I didn't realize you were gone that long--at one time you were pretty active over there. I didn't take part in the political discussions, since they're mainly about U.S. politics and policy, both domestic and abroad. As you say there's hardly any music discussion anymore, and that's where I was pretty active at the time. I never experienced it as a very friendly place; in the end the hostility from some members drove me away.

After a 3-year hiatus I recently went back to Jazz Corner's Speakeasy to post some Mosaic release news (I support them any way I can ) and noticed that there's not much traffic anymore. It used to be a busy place, but that seems to be a thing of the past. Anybody else notice this too? I'm asking because posting news like that doesn't make much sense if hardly anyone reads it.

This is exciting news. That means an extra CD to an already very promissing set. :) Scott didn't say anything about an extra CD and the website still lists 8 CDs, not 9. Maybe there was room on the 8 discs that were already planned. I might have been carried away by my enthousiasm. I looked to track listing again there is room for extra tracks especialy on discs 2,3, 4 and 7. Scott just confirmed it'll be 8 CDs, not 9. By the way, they're still awaiting clearance on the planned Lucky Thompson box.

No, it isn't. Bootlegs are releases of unauthorized and therefore illegal recordings and if linking to sites where they can be purchased causes problems it'll be Jim as the owner of the board who will be held responsible, not anyone else. It strains credulity to argue that someone will get into trouble for linking to amazon. Whatever. Look, if you don't agree with one or more forum rules, why don't you take it up with Jim instead of moaning about it in a thread? I'm sure he can explain them much better than I can and he's the only one who can change them.

That is a wonderful set with some prime Honky Tonk. Highly recommended!

This old thread deserves a bump

None on my computer screen. [edit] Just noticed that my browser blocks ads.

I know the feeling. The central heating in my apartment died in November 2009 and it cost me about $2,900. Good luck.

Hi J.A.W. - I have cuts by all those artists. I'm just wondering where and when and by whom it all came together before the landmark recording sessions. Maybe the unrecorded Doughboys with both Wills and Brown. I did some research about that many years ago, but I don't have my notes anymore, so I'm afraid I can't help you. Any idea if there's a (good) general history of Western Swing? Never could find one.

If you think the forum rule should be changed, you should take it up with Jim Alfredson. He's the one who makes the rules here. By the way, interesting to hear you're a teacher - it's "its existence" -

He had been admonished many times, has agreed to never do it again at least once, and has not AFAIK been threatened with banishment until now. (Banishing someone, you should know, is not something I can do myself; that's Jim's decision.) As for 'the policing of this rule being inconsistent," the moderators, despite what you may think, are human beings who have lives to live outside the boundaries of Organissimo, and thus we can't monitor every damn thing on a board that is brimful of posts everyday. We go on what we see ourselves and also rely on the reports/complaints of board members. Speaking for myself, the latter is the case at least half the time. Speaking for myself again, each of Aloc's missteps (or what you will) is like having a toy poodle drop his little craplets on your lawn twice a week while its master stands to one side, either lost in space or with a sly grin on his face (who can say?) It's not the biggest crime in the universe by far, but if you've been enough of a fool to accept the moderator role, it make you wonder what the f--- you're doing and why the f--- you even bother. Welcome to 2012, I guess. Just thinking that maybe there should be a step between warnings and banishment. Maybe first warning, then 30 days suspension, 2nd infraction 90 days, 3rd banishment. Not sure if this can be done. Odd to be discussing board policy on a topless waitress thread Both Larry and I (in my moderator days) have warned aloc more than once and Larry told him on another thread before this latest rule violation that he faced banishment if he'd do it again - and guess what, he did it again... It's not his second or third strike, it's his umpteenth strike. A 3-step route from warnings to banishment would need monitoring and that might be a problem: apart from Jim there are only two active moderators left with Magnificent Goldberg on permanent leave and my resignation last spring, so you could say they're understaffed.
