  1. Weird that the mustiness smells like cigarettes/cigars. How do you know he doesn't smoke? I didn't mind the scent/aroma at all. Actually endeared me more to his parcels. If I remember correctly etherbored has visited Hiroshi, that's how he knows.
  2. No, he didn't. Hiroshi told me (in a private e-mail message) that it is a combination of personal reasons and economic situation. Let's hope for better days. Correct. I hope things will improve for him and his family.
  3. "You'll Be Mine" is indeed post-1960. It was recorded in December 1961 and first released on Chess single 1813.
  4. Correct. It's on one of the "Andorran" labels, Disconforme - the recordings are PD in Europe, but not in the United States.
  5. No, he didn't.
  6. CDJapan is OK, but their service is not as personal as Hiroshi's.
  7. Bentsy has already posted this in the "Latest Reissues from Hiroshi" thread, but I thought this deserves its own thread: Hiroshi Tanno is closing down his store at the end of January, 2012. I have bought many CDs from him over the years; his service has always been impeccable and I am very sorry to see him go.
  8. The Threadgill Black Saint box was a major disappointment for me. I'd only heard a few of the discs, and the "new" ones were not my cup of tea. I sold the box and got the discs I liked separately.
  9. I've only heard a few and I agree, the presentation isn't great and musically they're a mixed bag in my opinion.
  10. As was mentioned over on the Hoffman site these French sets were mastered by Studio 101, but I understand no further info is given in the booklets.
  11. I also prefer Basie's Roulette recordings to the Verve dates for the same reasons Jazz Nut so eloquently put into words in his post #14.
  12. His handle (I've tried "indino", "indeno" and "indeknow") is unknown on this board. I'm pretty sure he posted on the long defunct BNBB, not here.
  13. We also used to have posts here from Bob Belden (indino I think was his handle). I wish he had time to post (though he's no longer part of Sony's reissue program as far as I know). Bob Belden used to post on the Blue Note BB, not here.
  14. I suspect that it timed out.... Good sound wasn't Norman G's forte and the liner notes left much to be desired. It didn't time out, as I posted earlier it's now back up again and Scott Wenzel just told me they have very few copies left.
  15. I love the Ornette Coleman Atlantic box, Beauty Is a Rare Thing. The Jimmy Lyons box is also a favourite, though I don't listen to it often enough (I have way too much music to listen to...). Don't have the Threadgill Mosaic yet, but it's on my list.
  16. The Basie Verve set is now back up again on the "Last Chance" page. Scott Wenzel just told me they have very few copies left.
  17. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just sent me this message:
  18. The Atomic Mr Basie (if that's the one you're referring to) is a Roulette album, not a Verve one.
  19. There are plenty of illegit releases on Amazon and yes, as I have posted a few times in my moderator days and as I said in my response to Brownie's post, discussing bootlegs is allowed, but linking them (to Amazon or wherever) is not. See also my post #10. Perhaps one of the current moderators could say something about this.
  20. You'd have to take that up with Jim, he makes the rules here. By the way, discussing those releases is not against the rules, posting links is.
  21. I think the point is that the topic of this thread is a live recording the artist didn't give permission for, i.e. an "unofficial", unauthorized, illegal recording. The Hep, Frog, etc. discs are PD (in Europe) reissues of official recordings.
  22. So sorry to hear that. Maybe it's time to be remastered
