LF: Cover of Henry Thomas' 2LP-set on Herwin 209
J.A.W. replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Offering and Looking For...
There was no booklet, just a gatefold cover with the notes inside on a few pages - if I remember correctly. Thanks for the link; I know Stefan's site, bookmarked it years ago -
It's a long shot, I know, but I am looking for the cover of the Henry "Ragtime Texas" Thomas 2LP-set that came out on Herwin H 209 many years ago. I'm interested in it because of Mack McCormick's liner notes, so I don't need the LPs, just the cover. I don't care about the condition of the cover as long as Mr McCormick's notes are clearly legible. I am willing to pay $10. PayPal is my only payment option. Please PM me if you're selling it or know where I can get one. Thanks.

So I said I thought a contentious thread was interseting

My set was made in the United States and released by Fantasy in 1991. It has 16 CDs with 125 tracks. -
That's good to read, but it's not a true review, more of a promo blurb. Let's call it a preview
-
That's not a new procedure, it's been like that for quite a while now.

I am selling this set from my collection: John Coltrane - The Prestige Recordings - Prestige 16PCD-4405-2, 16 CD-set; $105 including shipping by registered priority mail (it's heavy!) - condition of CDs: excellent or better - the LP-sized booklet (especially the back cover) and box show clear signs of wear; it's how I got them - the contents sheet on the back of the box is partially loose, but it looks as if it was manufactured that way - I got it like this Payment by PayPal only; no cash, checks or money orders. I only ship to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States. I understand it'll be 3CDs and a DVD. According to Amazon U.K. it's a Sony Legacy set. The cover is up on Amazon. The subtitle isThe Bootleg Series, Vol.1.
-
I like the programming on that box, the chronology gives me an impression of Coltrane's musical development during the Impulse! quartet years. I also have the individual albums on CD, by the way.
-
If this set is released by Hip-O, a Universal imprint, be prepared to pay just under $20 per disc; that's the price their sets usually go for.
-
Same here, the more so since it has many concerti with mediocre (to put it mildly) accompaniment - only the concerti with Fricsay are worthwhile as far as the accompaniment is concerned. Unfortunately the big box is the only way to get all her Scarlatti sonatas on CD. I have the earlier, separate Haskil chamber music and solo piano sets, and the latter has only 3 Scarlatti sonatas.
-
Err... I think you mean "canon"
-
Why another separate thread for these 3 sets? There are already 2 other threads about them... It might be a good idea to merge them to keep all info and opinions in one place.
-
Clara Haskil's piano interpretations are legendary. As far as I know they're unfortunately only available in a big Haskil 17CD-box with all her work for Philips, Westminster, Decca and Deutsche Grammophon (DG), The Clara Haskil Edition. These sonatas are included: K193 in E flat major K87 in B minor K386 in F minor K247 in C sharp minor K2 in G major K132 in C major K35 in G minor K193 in E flat major K386 in F minor K519 in F minor K322 in A major K87 in B minor K515 in C major K437 in F major

Why the delay in releasing Audio Wave Blue Note XRCD24s?
J.A.W. replied to dreamcatcher_43's topic in Re-issues
I joined the Hoffman board recently and it's more of a comedy than anything else. I don't think those guys ever actually listen to music, they just sit there with 17 different versions of the same album and keep switching them back and forth, trying to find the right one....then they stop to swap out speaker cables, perform some witchcraft over their tubes...then argue their findings for 50 pages. You are 100% correct. Unfortunately, some of them have now come over here and want to discuss the 11,000th remastering of The Sidewinder (OMG - Steve Hoffmann "rescued the precious master tapes!!!!" which of course, Ron McMaster just had used a few months earlier for the LP remasters) when most of us remember talking about how lucky we were to have any of this material out at all at the old Blue Note board with Tom Evered. Besides, the Hoffmannites are spending $50 per Blue Note 45RPM LP title for music they have never previously heard before, for a reissue program that hasn't used him as a mastering engineer for well over a year. It's hilarious, actually. Many of them seem to be listening to sound, not to music (example). What irks me is that some people over on the Hoffman site who have never listened to jazz and who are only buying jazz CDs and LPs because Hoffman mastered or recommended them, are suddenly acting as if they know all about jazz, while ignoring everything recorded before the mid-1950s... -
I think Ubu was making fun...

Paul Chambers recorded for Vee-Jay in the late 1950s and early 1960s; Hootin' 'n Tootin' was recorded in 1962 and Chambers might still have been under contract with Vee-Jay at the time.

You'd better contact Audio Wave directly. There's a list on their site with the titles that have already been released and scheduled titles. -
In baroque and early classical I prefer harpsichord In jazz and blues, however, I totally agree with you.
