Try this. As you probably know they're now based in France instead of Sweden. From Wikipedia: "In 2009, Ayler Records moved to France where it is now operated by Stéphane Berland who had joined the label in 2005." -
It's off topic, but re-reading this old thread I noticed quite a few members who seem to have left this board. Pity.

From the description it sounds like a lot of processing and noise reduction was done. Not usually a good thing, but perhaps in this case...? I had two Ellington Dreyfus CDs but sold them - compared to my RCA CDs with the same material (including the centennial box) they sounded very unnatural and tampered with to me, with a lot of noise reduction.

Was Steely Dan a big influence on 70s and 80s jazz?
J.A.W. replied to Lush Life's topic in Miscellaneous Music
What bothers me is that some of them pretend to know all about jazz after hearing a few jazz CDs, preferably mastered by Hoffman. -
Mosaic were planning a big Fletcher Henderson set with his Columbia and RCA Victor sides, but it has been put on the back burner. I guess the upcoming Coleman Hawkins set can be regarded as a kind of substitute.

Sonny Rollins- Tenor Madness Prestige Stereo Issue
J.A.W. replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Artists
Actually it probably says "Remastered for Stereo", as do most Prestige fake stereo reissues. This 1956 session was not recorded in stereo. The fact that RVG did the fake stereo remaster is interesting. As fake stereo releases go, these Prestiges aren't so bad - it's just a simple lows on one side, highs on the other, and hitting the mono button (if you've got one) usually can make it listenable. In fact, many of them, even though they claimed to be remastered for stereo, actually play very close to mono. I had a few fake stereo LPs back in my "vinyl days", but hitting the mono button on the system I had back then didn't make them listenable. At best some artefacts remained, for instance something that sounded like phase distortion (for lack of a better description). -
Thanks for the info, but the CDs can't be from 1979 since the very first audio CDs were not released until 1982 and the EPM label was founded in 1986.

Already done.

That site apparently no longer exists.

I'd like to see some titles that haven't been reissued on CD, like Al Cohn's Xanadu albums Play It Now, Al Cohn's America and No Problem and Richie Kamuca's Concord album Richie.

The Garner Estate would probably veto it. Mosaic planned a big Garner box, but the estate wouldn't allow it. Me as well. And me. We were soooooo close. gregmo I'll jump on this bandwagon. Would make a great 2-CD set. Seconded.

Stan Getz Quintets: The Clef & Norgran Studio Albums
J.A.W. replied to crisp's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Chuck, Did you get a response from them yet? Here is the response: Dear Customer: You have reached the Online Customer Service Department for questions regarding internet orders and questions related to the online store. We are sorry but we do not have replacements for this this item. You will need to contact Amazon to arrange an exchange of your items. Sincerely, Online Customer Support That response doesn't address the issue, they don't say anything about the error itself and whether it has been/will be corrected. Looks like we're going to have to live with it. Amazon's got nothing to do with the correction of the error, of course. -
Are you sure Ron McMaster will do the MJQ set? Seems strange to me, because it's Atlantic material and as an EMI/Blue Note engineer he's usually not mastering non-EMI/Blue Note material. It may seem strange, but it is what it is. I was just trying to provide accurate information that people may want to know. That is all. Michael Cuscuna has confirmed that the MJQ set will indeed be mastered by Ron McMaster. Scott Wenzel just mentioned Malcom Addey to me as the mastering engineer of the MJQ set. Scott just told me it would be Ron McMaster. So...it's been McMaster all along. That's what I was told too (so I posted that fact on March 15th). I wouldn't post something like that without having a good source (Mosaic's Fred). Perhaps I'm taking it the wrong way (or blowing things out of proportion) but, where's the trust?!?! Geez, I was just trying to help (Mosaic enthusiasts) with initial post of who was remastering what... Good grief man, don't be so defensive. Nobody's attacking or criticizing you, I was just posting the (initially conflicting) info I got from Mosaic (Fred/Michael/Scott), that's all.

As long as there are no personal attacks and name-calling...

Every Emerson Quartet recording I've heard sounded technically perfect but cold, hard and utterly impersonal to me. They made me run in the opposite direction. I prefer them in the flesh to some more diffident quartets I have heard. But I don't often go to hear quartets. I've edited my post to explain what I meant.

Every Emerson Quartet recording I've heard sounded technically perfect but cold, hard/steely and utterly impersonal to me. For me they are the emotional opposite of the Leonard Bernstein "style" of music making, and I dislike both "styles": one for its total lack of feeling, the other for being over the top, overly expressive, emotional and sentimental.

The Belcea Quartet's Schubert is also very fine.

Acoustic Sounds owner Chad Kassem's label Analogue Productions released the Blue Note SACDs, not Blue Note: Blue Note SACDs They've also released some Impulse! and Verve titles: Impulse! SACDs Verve SACDs AudioWave released some Blue Note titles on XRCD (playable on regular CD players). The ones I've heard sound great. Most of the SACDs and XRCDs are available for lower prices from Import CDs
