  1. Please define "logical compression".
  2. Czech classical violinist and conductor Josef Suk died on July 6. He was 81. Suk was the grandson of composer Josef Suk and the great-grandson of composer Antonín Dvořák.

Larry posted the number (229) in his post #48. Like he said it's an Argo album. Actually, it's Argo 629: http://www.bsnpubs.com/chess/argo600.html My mistake, sorry.

The Fresh Sound CD Burnin' also mentions those names (Harris-Austin-Gant) for the Sonny Stitt date, and so does the Bruyninckx discography; however, the latter notes that "Barry Harris is said not to be present at the above session, so probably the other musicians are also uncertain."
  6. This reminds me - I tried to send a PM to Hans to thank him for birthday wishes and discovered I was blocked. This has bothered me for a while - what gives? When I resigned as a moderator last month I reset my account settings. Don't know exactly what went wrong, but I hope everything's OK now.

  8. Seconded, and for me also Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon.
  9. Never had a problem as a "private end consumer". Try Hiroshi Tanno or CD Japan, they're excellent and their prices are usually far lower than what European (or American, for that matter) stores are asking for Japanese imports. That said, I don't know if they can supply Marshmallow CDs. Why not ask Hiroshi? He speaks English.
  10. Sad news. Great actor.

  13. Well, I hope you got it by now. No, haven't placed an order yet, don't know that I will. Extremely funny.
  14. As long as Jürgen Crasser isn't mastering their sets... Done, thanks. Well, I hope you got it by now.
  15. Bear Family will be releasing a 3CD-set with early Hank Williams recordings in Germany on September 23, 2011.
  16. Off-topic: why are "data" and "media" always seen as singular? They are plural, the singular being "datum" and "medium" respectively. And while we're at it, another error that is often made is "ad nauseum", the correct spelling is "ad nauseam".

    Sam Jones

Saw Sam several times in the 1970s with Clifford Jordan, Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins; he was a great bass player! I just realized that three of them are gone now...

  20. My advice: get the OJC. The DCC sounds excellent, but it's not worth that kind of money.
  21. The Coleman Hawkins set will be available in time for Xmas this year - see David's post on the Night Lights site.
