  1. hmm... I wonder if that is a complete schedule. I thought they were playing Charlottesville as well... we'll see. Thanks Aggie.
  2. I just heard that version of "Frankie and Albert" by Taj Mahal with the Pointer Sisters on the radio this afternoon. The DJ introduced it by totally divebombing Lohan's version in PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION. I've never heard her sing, but I thought that was hilarious. The Taj version is fantastic, btw.
  3. Kind of Blue was the first Miles date, but I owned that Charlie Parker In A Soulful Mood comp before that. See, compilations do work!
  4. I hear he is touring with Bill Frisell this Fall. Anyone have a schedule?
  5. Those people DO have cultural merit; they reflect contemporary culture. MG Yep. They also have 'sex tapes'.
  6. Susanne Vega? Cousin, who went on to become a folk singer, of Vincent Vega? I caught a few scenes from Pulp Fiction the other day. I didn't remember that exchange at Jack Rabbit Slim's.
  7. That's the sad part...
  8. Sad. But the writing on that page is ruthless! Some pretty funny stuff if you keep scrolling through the other 'celebs'.
  9. If you are talking about the cymbals, they seem a little hot on the TOCJ. The ride is a constant, but the hi-hat sounds great! The rest of the kit does to, for that matter. I have not heard the RVG, so I can't compare, but the mid and low seem fairly balanced in proportion. I can't tell you if it will be an improvement...
  10. I think this recording has great potential. I am looking forward to hearing it.
  11. Last year's (or the year before's?) domestic reissue was remastered by Ron McMaster. There are some improvements over the early remastered by Malcomlm Addey, and some areas where the earlier cd is better. I think I hear a bit of distortion on the new one. Thanks Lon. I knew it had been re-issued recently. I just assumed it was part of the RVG series... I suppose I'll hold on to my copy.
  12. I just wasn't going to go there...
  13. I love listening to this album. Oddly enough, I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in 5 years just a few weeks ago. She had Money Jungle playing when I got there! I didn't get the RVG version last year. How is it? Since it is a favorite, I wouldn't mind upgrading if the sound is that much better.
  14. I heard another Gillian Welch disc this weekend that I hadn't heard before. Her first album, Revival, from 1996, produced by T Bone Burnett. I really love she and David's approach to the music.
  15. fasstrack, try setting it up as a game... challenge the people on the street to name the tune and win a teddy bear. Of course that is a joke, but people seem to pay attention when there is something (of material value) in it for them. Let's see... how can we turn solo saxophone into three card monte/find the lady?
  16. Glad to hear you found a good gig!
  17. Ever seen a 'hummingbug'? I hadn't until this weekend. I'm not sure this image does justice... I'm sure it goes by another name, but this is what the girls told me they were called. Apparently, they see them in all colors. The ones I saw looked like a cross between a hummingbird and a honeybee. It's nature, it's funny as hell, and it's free!
  18. My version of Blowin' In From Chicago plays back mono, but I would guess right channel?
  19. oh, and I really like the first couple of Lucinda Williams albums. Her 'matured' voice doesn't quite do it for me, but it sure ain't chalkboard torture.
  20. If its good enough for Doc, chances are, its good enough for me... Merlefest Recent favorites... Jolie Holland!!! Check out here newest! Gillian Welch. Always solid. Avett Brothers are a lot of fun.
  21. Filmed right here in Wilmington, NC.
  22. Alright, alright... whatever. Why would Ra prevent Gilmore from recording with other musicians. That is the question we are interested in. I'm not at all interested in whether or not he was a homosexual. It seems highly unlikely that anyone's sexuality would be a factor in this situation. I mean, I know "absurd" applies to a lot of what Ra presented in his time on this planet, but this is just... Why would Ra prevent Gilmore from recording with other musicians?
  23. That song, and Also Sprach Zarathustra will forever remind me of Phish shows.
  24. Thanks Rod. This may work. A friend was in town this weekend and estimated 1,200 CDs. I'm in denial and would like catalog them. Over the past year, I've been ripping everything to an external hd and this seems like the easiest way to catalog for insurance purposes.
