  1. I believe that is Lana Cantrell. A young hopeful with several LP's on RCA in the 1960's.
  2. Thorson had the unenviable task of replacing Diana Rigg on The Avengers in 1968. Her character's name was Tara King.
  3. Last hint! (I'm really surprised you haven't gotten her yet.) This is what she looked like about 1968. It's Linda Thorson, of course!
  4. I tend to look upon the two films as one unit - the ongoing story of the Corleone family, presented in two parts. Years ago, the films were resequenced in chronological order for a network showing, and they also worked well that way. The less said about Godfather III, the better.
  5. Lynda Carter?
  6. I believe that is Stevie Nicks.
  7. Let's not make assumptions about all landlords. While what you say is true about many, my landlord is actually a good guy, who bought the property 10 years ago, and told me at the time that he eventually wanted to move his restaurant (which he was renting) into my location. He also told me that he would give me ample warning when he decided to make the move. He kept his word, and it is only because of unforeseen obstacles that he has decided not to move at this time.
  8. The following message was sent out to our mailing list two days ago: Dear friends, We are happy to announce that our landlord has decided to abandon his plans for opening his pizza and sandwich shop in our location for one year, due to continued resistance from certain parties in the neighborhood and from the City of Cambridge. This means that Stereo Jack's Records will continue for at least ONE MORE YEAR! We intend to resume all aspects of our business in the coming months, including buying and selling collections, and we have ordered a new shipment of wooden CD shelves and record crates. stereo jack's
  9. This is one of my all time favorite live recordings. Hawk & Roy are in great form. The Verve CD which came out a few years ago contains both the mono and stereo versions, which are from different concerts.
  10. I just read that TNT has cancelled this show after two seasons, citing poor ratings.
  11. Obviously, one goes after the more common releases first in one's pursuit of recordings by favorite artists, but I know the Al & Zoot Fred Miles LP, and it's a real winner. Btw, it was reissued on Zim in the early 1980's, so one doesn't have to pay a premium to hear the music.
  12. Considering the amount of hot air and excess verbiage that occupies so much of the action around here, I think the birthday wishes are a nice touch. Why is it that the guys who are the most petulant, insecure, childish or unappreciative are the ones who are the most likely to insist that they don't want to be that way?
  13. I've owned this LP for many years. The high point for me has always been the Ella & Louis stuff.
  14. I came to this show late after hearing rave reviews from friends. Started in the middle of season 2, and after the season ended, discovered that both seasons are available for free at Comcast On Demand. We now are two thirds through season 1, and we are totally loving this show!
  15. Actually, the Discovery LP reissue also featured the remaster. Presumably, the Discovery CD contains the same remaster that was on the LP. Definitely an improvement over the original Atlantic LP. A very fine session - I used a track from this on my Blindfold Test a while back.
  16. Very strong session - rarely discussed. Nice to see that I'm not alone in my admiration for this record.
  17. I'll be there. Have attended every bash since 1978, although there are guys who have been going even longer!
  18. We saw it earlier this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. Owen Wilson as the "Woody" character is terrific, and Marianne Cotillard is charming. Plenty of laughs. Familiar Woody themes, such as his disdain for pompous know-it-alls, appear once again, but to me, it's like hearing one of your favorite jazzmen play some of his familar licks.
  19. The landlord continues to have problems with the city of Cambridge in obtaining the proper permits. As his struggle continues, he has granted us several extensions, providing us with more time to do business (and, of course, to pay additional rent). Originally we were scheduled to close at the end of March, but up to now it has been extended until the end of June. There's another breeze blowing, however, and it is possible that the date may once again be changed. I'll keep everybody apprised.
  20. The original group, formed in 1956, was Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Leon Hughes, and Bobby Nunn. In 1958, Hughes and Nunn were replaced by Cornell Gunter and Will "Dub" Jones. It was this lineup that recorded most of the classic hits - Yakety Yak, Charlie Brown, etc. Cornell Gunter was replaced by Earl Carroll in 1961. Gunter went on to lead his own version of the Coasters into the 1970's, although Gardner owned the name. Cornell Gunter sang lead on Zing Went the Strings of my Heart.
  21. Art Salt = Art Pepper (Shorty Rogers “Cool & Crazy”, RCA Victor, 1954; Shelly Manne & His Men, Contemporary, 1953)
  22. It was actually "C. C. Siegel" on the Charlie Parker 10th Memeorial concert (Limelight). Some discographies list the drummer as "Claude Cloud". However, I guess the real leader on this date is probably Leroy Kirkland.
