  1. Even better - thanks Jim!
  2. Goldwave also takes flac files and extracts them into wav files and those can be saved to mp3. I don't know about direct conversion. Thanks!
  3. On a related topic, does anyone know how I can convert .flac files to anything mp3-like I can use?
  4. The 1998 Japanese MVC disk is still in print. There was no 24 bit issue in Japan (in fact IIRC there was no 24 bit Interstellar Space either). I suppose I just wonder why, if Ascension and Kulu Se Mama (the other inclusions on Major Works) could be reissued and kept in print, as well as other late Trane, and even the release of Olatunji concert, as well as endless spiritual romps from Alice and Pharaoh (of which Om is a precursor) I just wonder why the line stops at Om.
  5. Yes it bothers me. I have the LP though I don't play it much. I had the Major Works set but I sold it. But. Why no sonically upgraded, individual issue of OM? As I recall, even Japanese Universal om-itted it (geddit?) from their round of 24 bit reissues. Is there no love for OM?
  6. They are now using new cover art to replace the photos in question. It's a hitch but not terminal.
  7. I mailed them - if I hear back I'll let you know.
  8. Yes - and featuring that cheesy no-mark John Gilmore. Yuk. Pity Ra didn't make him stay at home doing the laundry for that one as well.
  9. There seems to be a further selected reissue of JRVGs in the pipeline, due from October. Maybe they will not be paper sleeves?
  10. Crazy Jazz (UK) list this as an August release. Brownie may know more about the real likelihood that these will come out than me, but here are the Futura 'new' releases listed on the Crazy Jazz website: New>33746 : Ted Curson & The George Arvanitas Trio - Jacky Samson / Charles Saudrais : Pop Wine - (1971) : Futura : £13.50 : New>33184 : Dexter Gordon / Sonny Grey & George Arvanitas Trio - Jacky Samson / Charles Saudrais : Parisian Concert - (1973) : Futura : £13.50 : New>08020 : Michel Portal - John Surman / Barre Phillips / Stu Martin / Jean-Pierre Drouet : Alors!!! - (1970) : Futura : £13.50 : New>33186 : Freddie Redd Trio - Didier Levallet / Didier Carlier : Under Paris Skies - (1971) : Futura : £13.50 : New>33183 : Dizzy Reece Quintet - John Gilmore / Art Taylor / Siegfried Kessler / Patrice Caratini : From In To Out - (Live - 1970) : Futura : £13.50 : New>10062 : Mal Waldron Trio - Patrice Caratini / Guy Hayat : Blood & Guts - (Live In Paris - 1970) : Futura : £13.50 : New>33185 : Ben Webster With George Arvanitas Trio - Jacky Samson / Charles Saudrais : Autumn Leaves - (1972) : Futura : £13.50 :
  11. I enjoyed The Abbess so I am looking forward to The Decent. I'm a righteous sort of fellow, you see. Edit: hey you spoilt my joke by correcting your typo! I worked hours over this one.
  12. Just to put a dampner on things, I have to say I find street musicians pretty intrusive. I prefer to walk down the high street where I live quietly without incessant noise. This time of year my tiny city boasts penny whistles, singing guitarists, violins, flutes, Peruvian bands, fourth tenors etc etc etc, all brought in by tourists. Some use amplification and/or backing tracks - even more crass.
  13. OK so you're not three - but don't you wish!
  14. Actually I wouldn't be swayed too much by a 10% discount.
  15. Hano to Haino - the A-Z of Japanese improv!
  16. Meanwhile, in a world of my own: I'M FREE, CAPTAIN PEACOCK! Edited to mention that this is Evolving Blush, Or Driving Original Sin, by Brotzmann and Haino.
  17. The Mingus seems to have disappeared from the 2001 site.
  18. worth asking for a markdown? at least you didn't order the Capitol, Stitt, and Condon Mob at the same time...
  19. Well it's funny you should mention Ronald Firbank...
  20. The Schopenhauer book arrived. It is TINY! Oh also the Mingus set which by contrast is HUGE - first time I have had a 2001 set with a box and booklet...
  21. Totally get you. That said, this goes back to a period when communal loving had become an established practice in some quarters, and the sociology of gay black polyamorism has yet (I think) to be investigated. At that time, black gayness had enough difficulty getting out of the closet as Black political discourse tended to be heavily gendered (consider e.g. James Baldwin). Maybe there is a good source on this? If not, there will be. Eventually.
  22. Queer theory asks that we DO take account of sexuality, as much as of race or gender. The next important study of Sun Ra won't be about the cheesy arrangements and shapeless free blows, but about the queer house that Ra ran and the mode of camp it projected in its shows. There is an important chunk of history and theory to get worked out here. It doesn't do to say 'we are sexuality-blind, just listen to the music' any more than it ever did to say 'we are race-blind' 'we are gender-blind'. Ra's contexts were NOT sexuality-blind and our knowledge of his history cannot be either. Even having said all of that, his hold over his men seems to have been rather unusual and it would be helpful to know more. And by the way that music is SO camp - didn't you notice.
  23. What's on it? Just a load of multiple takes you don't really need. Heh heh. Look Here!!
  24. Same note from jpc. But I am greedy. I just am.
