Well, I don't think we'll get straight reissues of the 10" series, but I think that the pairing of McGhees might make a fine reissue somewhere in the world...

Those BN McGhees need to come BACK! This time together on one CD instead of split over two with the other fillers.

Ornette will be performing Skies of America tomorrow evening in Bologna, Italy, with his quartet (Al McDowell, Tony Falanga and Denardo) and the local Symphony Orchestra. In 1990, there have been two Italian performances of Skies of America, one with the Quartet (Ornette, Cherry, Haden, Higgins) and one with Prime Time. The Orchestra conductor was John Giordano. luca Heck. Talk about a coincidence. I'm going to start an Elvis found on Moon thread and see what happens. On a more serious note, I have a review (at least one) of the London 198x performance - I'll try to find it...

Justs listening to this one again. Pretty good, I'd say! A pity that it has never made it to disk (AFAIK - or have these tracks sneaked out as part of some other disk?). It is quite short, which may make it commercially unviable I suppose. Can anyone say how the three tracks of about 15,8,15 minutes were divided between two sides of an LP?

We believe the Spanish version of Poppin' was taken from the Japanese source (presumed to be by Yoshio Okazaki).

I see they didn't have the tapes for the two issued takes of the Hill and dubbed from an LP. That's a pity.

If you are after a bargain Basie slip over to amazon.co.uk, where the Holidays are in the sun (also the master takes version). Not farlower than expected but still a bargain. Other things still going include Ella and Louis and Ella does Duke. Sadly no Eldridge or Jazztet. There may be other gems if anyone else cares to do a little searching. I noticed other Ella Songbooks at really good prices... PPS these are all Universal titles that were seriously reduced before and which I flagged up at the time... I don't know how long these prices are back for... I haven't seen anything that hasn't been in the sale before...

Sweet music, dodgy tape. Don't skip the TOCJ if you ever come across one. I notice they didn't do this as a TOCJ24, perhaps because it is hard to bring up well. If you hear it in a good transfer it might grow on you.

Well that works quite well as a slogan, I suppose, but how will it look on a T-shirt?

Well, yes there is that, but since recording order did not correspond to live set order, issues of key and tempo which would be considered for a gig can be ignored in the studio in the knowledge they will be sorted out at a later stage. And elements of the track sequence may have been planned even before starting the recording session. Restoring recording order can spoil the effect.
