  1. Good to see that even spellchecking has not saved the Grauniad from its legacy of poor proofing
  2. Another generous box upcoming - L'Oiseau lyre http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/en/cat/4786753?sort=newest&ADD_OTHER=1
  3. It has been pointed out to me that EU laws which came in last year mean that from now on PD is 70 years, not 50. I wonder if this is a toe in the water or a new way of doing sneaky reissues?
  4. I was disappointed to visit the hat website and find that, while in the past when you clicked on the cover an image of the rear cover came up, now all that comes up is a grainy image of the front cover. The old way was so much better - really useful! I am surprised this was changed. I wonder if there was a reason.
  5. Thinking about that 'Horo' series - that was five years ago! There is a symmetry though - four desirable releases from a rare catalog. The Shepp titles were recorded in 1963, not sure when they were released, so they are or are heading for PD. The other titles are 1966 so are a few years off PD. Why do the Shepps in this way, then? If they are not PD this year they may be next. The reason may be to get around copyright on the artwork. Hmm.
  6. I.m looking at the Boss RC-300. Not that cheap maybe but looks like it could be fun...
  7. Partly what I'm wondering about are specs and features and what I should look for or expect. I'm wondering if there is a way to get sustain as well in the same unit. Thanks for the replies so far.
  8. So far these seem not essential if you already know the music... I'm with mjazzg that Mohawk is much needed, an all-time favorite of mine.
  9. Apart from anything else, those Iberian labels all have excellent distribution. What is so mysterious about these is that outside Japan they are listed ONLY by Jazzmessengers, and inside Japan they are listed, apparently without yet being stocked, by several sites but NOT by CdJapan and NOT by amazon.co.jp. The first Jazzmessenger sales of these titles predate the advertised release date on hmv.co.jp. So this is...odd.
  10. FWIW Jazzmessengers list these on ebay and appear to have stock. They do specify they are Japanese and mini-LP. Bizarrely, no-one else has listed them on ebay. Romualdo may be the first to know the truth!
  11. Let us know how you get on. I wonder if jazzmessengers actually has copies - or if anyone does - ?
  12. Not really sure that Cool Music Records is the company involved.
  13. Well one question is how ALONE in Europe Jazzmessengers lists these titles...that said one Japanese site list them as from Germany.
  14. Add Roy Eldridge to that list. If I think of more I'll let you know. Scrub that, it's a lookalike.
  15. The only reason that I haven't joined the scramble to get it is because it's available for download on Amazon as part of the Capitol Vaults Jazz Series for $15.49, Of course, the Andrew Hill, Dexter Gordon, Don Pullen, John Patton and Paul Chambers sets can be had for even less. However, not all of the OOP Selects are available for download (i.e., the excellent Carmell Jones). Carmell Jones is available as d/l from US amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Carmell-Jones/dp/B0053VJ6BU/ref=sr_1_4?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1393959301&sr=1-4&keywords=carmell+jones I'm glad to be mistaken! I wonder why they don't have it listed as a Capitol Vaults release. Are any of the OOP Selects unavailable via download? I can't answer your last question but not all of the Mosaics available as d/l are listed as Capitol, e.g. Buddy Rich (though that is missing the final disk!!!!), Gerald Wilson, Turrentine, Nelson, Farmer/Golson, and maybe others I don't know.
  16. We'll see... It's a start. Who knows what exactly these are? It is only when someone physically gets her or his filthy mitts on them that we'll get a clear idea if these are quality releases and if maybe more might be expected. The 'Cool Music' label looks rather...strange. Don't know if I'll go first on these as I have them all on Japanese vinyl.
  17. Paper sleeve. Listed in Japan as European. Listed at jazzmessengers as Japanese. Not on amazon. Gulp. http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/search/advanced_1/category_1%2C2%2C3%2C4%2C5%2C7%2C9%2C10%2C23%2C24/formattype_1/genre_Jazz_800/labelcode_COOLM/pagesize_1/? Import Juba Lee Marion Brown Release Date: 28 Feb 2014 Import Consequences New York Contemporary Five Release Date: 28 Feb 2014 Import Rufus John Tchicai / Archie Shepp Release Date: 28 Feb 2014 Import Urge Ted Curson Release Date: 28 Feb 2014 Although you wept and fasted, wept and prayed....

  19. ...lot of these on spotters...
  20. It's nice but not indispensable. But if you've got no time to listen to it....what's the point? Hope. He's looking forward to having time in the future!
  21. and on spotify Ronald Shannon Jackson – Ronald Shannon Jackson and the Decoding Society: Live at the Kessler
  22. I was supposed to be going to VL (evening only) but I'm crocked (football, achilles) so it's out. Pity because VL is a composer I *only* want to hear in performance, little interested otherwise. Pity about the achilles too I suppose.
  23. Briefly, I play guitar for my own amusement and I've got the idea I'd like a loop pedal (or box?) which would allow me to layer sounds. Can anyone advise me what features I should look for, well-known products, recommendations? I'll never play in public again so I don't need pro standard. Thanks for any tips.
  24. One thing I am wondering is how often remasters are made not from tape but from a common first digital transfer from the tape. So that 'straight' digital master becomes the common source of different remasters. Only a guess.
  25. I bet your shares are doing quite well though
