The deleted Selects have been all over Ebay lately. There are several Richards, Slack, Pepper, Gordon, Brookmeyer, Jones, Pearson, Shank/Cooper, PJPT, Reece, and Patton sets listed right now.
I got my ESP order yesterday (Hilversum, placed 2/7). My JazzLoft order (Sunny and Milford), placed the day before, has yet to arrive 11 days on.
The ESP package was entirely hand-marked so yeah...very small operation. Also, I have received no shipping notice for the 2/6 JazzLoft ESP order, but I DID receive a shipping notice for a JazzLoft Hatology order I placed on 2/10, which seems to substantiate the theory that JL is getting their stuff from ESP before shipping-- or something.
I've never had a problem with them, but I agree that, aside from a few BN titles that I should be whipped for not yet owning, my 40-some item queue is bogged down by "3 star" material. Tho I'm glad to see those two ECM titles finally show up.
I very much like Tristano's New York Improvisations a trio set with Peter Ind and a drummer whose name escapes me.
NYI was the title when it was released on an Elektra LP in the 70s. It's out in a different form now, but I don't recall the most recent title.
I used refund money from the broken Minimalism of Erik Satie I received earlier this week and got Ne Plus Ultra and The Dark Tree to make up for my disappointment.
I got an e-mail from Amazon for this this morning. Looks just like the Parker Master Takes set. I wish it was just Verve releasing this so I could get it on YourMusic.
Anyone know where I can get this set for a decent price? Or is the $40 being asked on Amazon about the best I can do?
I suppose that's not so bad for 4 discs of great music, but I still feel like I could do better.
I just got a copy of The Minimalism of Erik Satie in the mail from an ebay auction and the disc was broken completely in half
So annoyed. I have been looking for this forever and managed to get it at a reasonable price.
SIGH.
Yeah, reading his notes to The Complete Blue Note Fifties Sessions "humble" was not really a word that came to mind.
But I agree with Chuck on his latter point, and the Blue Note 2xCD is one of my most treasured recordings.
Also, why not a George Russell Decca Select with New York, New York (1959), Jazz in the Space Age (1960), George Russell Sextet at the Five Spot (1960) and George Russell Sextet in KC (1961). While all have appeared on CD in some form or another, none are readily available in the US.
