It's a small gripe, but I wish I could combine shipping on their Amazon items. A $1.99 item becoming a $4.98 item still makes it a fine deal, but knowing it all ships from the same location makes bulk ordering feel like a rip off-- on Amazon's part, not Newbury's.
Just a heads up, EmArcy Canada released a box set containing all the music from the 1989 Montreal Tapes. Amazon.ca has some copies; I managed to find one on Ebay for $38 US. A great way to own this music all in one place without having to pay used prices for the individual Verve US discs on Amazon or Ebay.
I'm excited to hear this stuff. What line-ups!
Well we're talking OOP Mosaic here, "reason" is relative. The Buy-it-Now auctions are stupidly steep, I agree, but the regular auctions are what they are. $80 sounds pretty reasonable to me for a Shank/Cooper or the like.
The deleted Selects have been all over Ebay lately. There are several Richards, Slack, Pepper, Gordon, Brookmeyer, Jones, Pearson, Shank/Cooper, PJPT, Reece, and Patton sets listed right now.
I got my ESP order yesterday (Hilversum, placed 2/7). My JazzLoft order (Sunny and Milford), placed the day before, has yet to arrive 11 days on.
The ESP package was entirely hand-marked so yeah...very small operation. Also, I have received no shipping notice for the 2/6 JazzLoft ESP order, but I DID receive a shipping notice for a JazzLoft Hatology order I placed on 2/10, which seems to substantiate the theory that JL is getting their stuff from ESP before shipping-- or something.
I've never had a problem with them, but I agree that, aside from a few BN titles that I should be whipped for not yet owning, my 40-some item queue is bogged down by "3 star" material. Tho I'm glad to see those two ECM titles finally show up.
I very much like Tristano's New York Improvisations a trio set with Peter Ind and a drummer whose name escapes me.
NYI was the title when it was released on an Elektra LP in the 70s. It's out in a different form now, but I don't recall the most recent title.
I used refund money from the broken Minimalism of Erik Satie I received earlier this week and got Ne Plus Ultra and The Dark Tree to make up for my disappointment.
