  1. Good a place to ask as any: my Trost copy of THE LIVING MUSIC has Schoof and Schlippenbach identified as the other on the back. Is this switch native to the original LP?
  2. I could be wrong, but I find that Instagram makes embedding pretty impossible. I've had luck doing this: 1) Go to the instagram website and log in 2) Go to the 'page' for the picture you want 3) Right click 'View Page Source' 4) Down a ways you will find a url that ends in .jpeg That's the url for your photo. 5) Copy this url and paste as usual. That's how I was able to do this: Very convoluted, I know. Maybe there's a better way? But for some reason IG doesn't encourage this.
  3. Re: Long Story Short and the much-lauded Brotzmann/Ghania/Laswell/Drake improvisation ... I went into this one wary of Bill Laswell's presence, and maybe that colored my reaction to it, but (esp. compared to the Wels concert with the trio on Okka listed above) he pretty much ruined it for me. It sounded less like an improvisation and more like a jam. Not good. His sound is cheesy and I felt like he marshaled the other players into a pretty fixed structure that created easy vamps and crescendos. Clearly I'm in the minority on this one, but that's what I heard. For me one of the great highlights was the Brotzmann/Satoh/Moriyama track. I really need to pick up their album on Not Two for more of that. I also dug the Tentet + John Tchicai, DKV +3, & Bro/Adasiewicz/Toyozumi, among others. I went through the set in a week on my commute and it blew my brains out so I'm not sure when I'll be in the mood to revisit it again.
  4. Not by a long shot.
  5. I have Black Forrest, and it's great. All The Gin is Gone comes from the same session, so I imagine that's strong too.
  6. I inquired about the Lacys. All they had was Catch at 100 I think this poor guy will be sitting on these for another 40 years.
  7. Cool, thanks. Still don't think I can afford it. but the option is always nice!
  8. In people's experience, does JM.com tend to actually have what they list in stock, or not so much? They currently say that they have the 2011 FMP box and all the individual CDs in stock, as well as some other FMP titles. Is this to be believed?
  9. (FWIW Okka is cheaper and ships lightning quick)

Cool. I've been meaning to preorder that one.
  11. This is an odd example, but I still think it's really low for labels to sell OOP items for inflated prices. Mosaic never does this. Eremite, for one, does.
  12. Hm indeed. I'm guessing they're still coming from Italy-- Not sure how I feel about trying to deal with that. I'm also guessing that all told these won't be a massive improvement on eBay prices in most cases...
  13. Either way, great cover to start page 1000.
  14. Bitching about prices aside, I do want to grab that Wooley LP. btw, Leeway, there is a Texas-based tape label called Astral Spirits getting off the ground soon and their first release is by Icepick: Wooley, Corsano & Haker-Flaten.
  15. There was just a copy on Discogs for about $45. I seriously considered it! I swear the CDs will be here one day....
  16. It's true! Though I read them in your book. The set is on my long-term wish list. Felser, Abei isn't on Cliches, or hardly is.
  17. The last one looks great-- more Earl Cross & Muhammad Ali = -- but I wish they did more CDs. The vinyl is just too expensive for me.
  18. Hunting The Snake is unreal. Definitely an essential disc. Clichés is also so, so wonderful. A top 5 Lacy record. I would also include Blinks in that list, but really, the former is really special and very accessible. Ditto the Braxton! I could go on and on!
  19. I had hoped it was in jewel CDs like the Trillium box. That's too bad.
  20. Paul Flaherty & Marc Edwards - Kaivalya vols. 1 & 2

Wow, The Snake Decides goes for way more bread on CD than it does on LP! Great record. Monoceros is off the charts, though, and Six Of One is pretty sick as well. I was spinning it the other day and it was killing me. Still need a nice copy of Zanzou. I suppose you have the Incus LP box set...
  22. Thirded. For my taste, though, they could've dropped the Frissell/Lovano album. It's pretty mediocre, quite dated and doesn't fit with the others. But man, Motian is such a stimulating composer. You'd be hard-pressed to make a better investment.

YES. I was meaning to mention those but couldn't quite bring them to mind. Time Will Tell is incredible.
