  1. Ran Blake - Grey December a penny + 3.99: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004ULO0WO/ref=sr_1_9_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1409020649&sr=8-9&keywords=ran+blake&condition=used Great album.
  2. Crossing my fingers that I was fast enough to catch Cecil Taylor - Nailed and Looking (Berlin Version) [not sure which one!] from Reckless. I'll be simply heartbroken if they're gone. $9 & $15, respectively!!
  3. Steve Lacy albums 46, 47, & 48: Five Facings Duets: Associates The Way
  4. Huge fan. Outside the regular albums, this CD is a personal favorite. "Sing A Song For You" is heard in a long version that's superior to the short one on Happy/Sad and the demo material for what would become the pretty unfortunate Sefronia is in much better shape: Of the original albums, it's hard to choose between Goodbye/Hello, Happy/Sad, Lorca, and Starsailor. Back when I was listening to Tim Buckley the most, Starsailor was very much a collector's item. I just looked around hoping maybe that had changed, but apparently not save a vinyl reissue whose legality I question given the lack of a CD edition of any kind. Really unfortunate. I guess I'll have to stick with the old CD-R.
  5. I heard from Fred L-Holm. He didn't have any other info either, or know anything about Wadud's whereabouts these last 20 years.
  6. I don't believe he's recorded anything since the material with Hemphill from the early 90s.
  7. One of the greats. RIP, and thanks for the fascinating and groundbreaking sounds.
  8. I listened to the Fieldwork set the other night, which was very strong. The music is kind of dry and technical, but I don't mind that. Sometimes, the great players make it look easy, but other times I can't imagine how they manage to do what they do. There were parts of that performance where the rhythm was so fragmented that it's incredible the three of them kept it together.
  9. Giuffre may COME from Texas, but represent the Texas tenor sound? Har har. (OK, I HAVE got the 45 of 'Big boy'. Even so...) MG His sound is pretty dusty and dry, even into the 60s, but uh, yeah, point taken. Booker Ervin maybe.
  10. Oh no! I had hoped you ordered last night! FWIW, it's listed on the importcds.com website and many other places.
  11. Nice write-up. It's taken me until very recently to "get to" this music, and I'm amazed so much is available; given the kind of Vocalion/FMP axis of this scene I used to assume most of it was impossible to find. I am certainly making the Blue Notes box a priority and will also try to get Very Urgent very soon as well. Any Elton Dean album you'd particularly recommend? I just placed an order for the box via Amazon/Import CDs. They said they had one left at this $49 price.
  12. There's a Lacy-Rudd - School Days on Discogs for $6 Hurry!!
  13. Ran is a musical hero of mine and I'd LOVE to see you release one of his records. RAPPORT is a spectacular record that acts as a good primer on his music and sound world. That said, it wouldn't necessarily be my first pick. But THAT said, out of Ran's OOP music-- and that's the bulk of his 70s and 80s recordings-- RAPPORT and FILM NOIR are about the most attainable for liscensing. The Owls are owned by Universal, the Horos are owned by who knows, TAKE 1 & 2 are private press tapes owned probably by Ran, and PAINTED RHYTHMS are owned by GM. For my money, his total masterpieces of the era in question are the PAINTED RHYTHMS and VERTIGO albums. Long story short, I'd recommend FILM NOIR above RAPPORT, yet I would also never, ever turn down the chance to have the latter on CD. Long ago I suggested THE NEWEST SOUND AROUND. It came out on legit CD in France around 2000 and has since turned up on a couple Andorran labels. So maybe it's too late for that one, but I still think this very seminal record deserves a legitimate domestic release. I know there are other big FILM NOIR fans on here.
  14. Thanks for the heads up, Alexander. I'll try to pick it up soon myself!
  15. I've enjoyed his videos as well. I listen to a set each night while I do closing paperwork at work. Very grateful for these folks to present these full sets.
  16. Videographer Don Mount has posted videos of the majority of Tyshawn Sorey's recent Stone residence on YouTube (it also goes without saying he has dozens and dozens of other performances online...a key resource, especially for us far-flung fans). Here is a link to his duo with Marilynn Crispell. Along the side you will see the trio with Crispell & Helias, Fieldwork ,Paradoxical Frog, the Button Trio, Burrell/Grimes, and duos with Jen Shyu and Fay Victor. I think the only performances from the week not online are the trio with Todd Neufeld & Thomas Morgan, and a duo with Matt Mitchell (pity!)
  17. They should repress it instead of hoarding a few old copies and offering a gouge.
  18. Reminds me of this Olivia Tremor Control LP:
  19. McPhee/Levin/Corsano sounds fantastic. The rest is pretty too. Love to see Lee still going at it.

    Evan Parker

Incredible video of a Schlippenbach Quartett (Workman) concert from Atlanta, 1998. Jeff, were you there? I'm guessing you know the poster of the video, Scott Burland. He has many others including Brotzmann Tentet + duos with Drake & Cyrille, DKV, Trio 3, and a couple of yourself. Great resource!
  21. Love the variety on this one. Great record. I wish Mosaic or someone would re-release his CBS LPs in a CD box set.
  22. Trost label & distribution releases for the rest of 2014: I bolded the good part. Nice to have PP back in print, but these LPs are overpriced as hell.
  23. Bullshit! Glad this prick was arrested and I hope they take everything he has to renumerate CT.
  24. As per Mark Dresser. This is very, very sad news.
