  1. Yep, I grabbed one for $8
  2. I think that accusation is maybe a tad dastardly, but it does seem like Moran has taken leave of developing his music in favor of other pursuits. I suppose the world needs Billy Taylors, too. Which is maybe to say that I think at one time he had a very precise and exciting musical vision that seems to have been since abandoned.
  3. Fred Anderson CDs: -Vintage Duets -Live at the Velvet Lounge (Kowald/Drake) -A Night at the Velvet Lounge/Live at the 'Made in Chicago' Festival Lennie Tristano Quartet - Unreleased Recordings 2xLP
  4. I'm in the market for a legit CD of George Russell's Jazz Workshop but I see the reissue from this series replicates the shitty 80s cover? Why in God's name? The primary reason I want to replace the Lone Hill is the atrocious cover.
  5. I don't feel like I would ever plop down for this new one, but it looks quite nice. The only Lloyd I have is Of Couse, Of Course which is very much worthwhile for any jazz fan.
  6. Really? I've bought more than one Not Two title on Catalytic and paid about $3 shipping. All the other Not Two and TUM titles I have purchased were off Discogs, Amazon, or Ebay, most secondhand, some new. I never paid more than about $15 (generally much less) and never had trouble sourcing what I wanted.
  7. Just checking on something. So music from this 1955 recording comprised the B side of the Atlantic LP. As far as getting a complete reel of this performance my options are thus, no?: 1) 1981 Atlantic 2xLP Unreleased Performances - 13 tracks 2) Mosaic Set - ?? tracks (Discogs list Art Taylor on Disc 1 tracks 1-10 and Disc 2-10; not sure if that is all sourced from the Sing Sing tapes) 3) Illegal Gambit CD - 18 tracks The Mosaic is on my long-term wish list but not feasible today. I am about to grab the old 2xLP but am more curious than anything what the story is here.
  8. You hit the motherlode! The Quest is an experience like no other.
  9. I only listened once. Haven't been in the mood to put it on again, but I liked it. Low key, but intense.
  10. In fact, I think that's the whole point. I doubt there will be much music altogether.

Most pithily: Play with your ego, not your id. Much more complicated, of course.
  13. I noticed this the other day and meant to post something here. I'm definitely going to grab it up soon.

    Oh yeah!!
  15. I caught them in Chicago, 2005 or 6. It was fantastic. Not much to see, so I just had my eyes closed most of the set.
  16. Man, awesome. I've been looking forward to that one a lot.
  17. His late Blue Notes are his best work IMO. Very much a case of going out on a high note.
  18. Well, upon inspection Angles of Repose was recorded later (though released earlier, I think). Even so, it feels final, like a summation of everything.
  19. Speaking of Joe Maneri, Going To Church. Immense.
  20. Evan Parker & Sylvie Courvoisier have a new on on Relative Pitch
  21. A 10CD Mosaic is beyond my reach, but that Dial set sounds wonderful.
  22. Any of the great George Russell Riverside LPs of the early 60s: Ezzthetics, Stratus Seekers, Stratusphunk.
  23. This is very bizarre, but is clearly some sort of template and not to be believed in any way.
  24. Wow... Glad, at least, that he is at peace. Thank you thank you thank you...
  25. Everyone is right. Impossible to have too much of this band.
