  1. I've been burned many a time myself. That's a global market for you.
  2. What's available at any given moment may be spotty, but Dusty Groove keeps Marge/Futura albums steadily in stock, too.
  3. My favorite Dorham by far is the Cafe Bohemia material. I never quite warmed to the other 50s stuff on Riverside & the like. I still haven't heard the Matador/Into Somethin' sessions.
  4. Lets not forget KD holding true on Point of Departure. He let Dolphy, Hill, Davis, and Williams do their thing, and did his thing within it (though I know there was a bit of tension at the session). Also Complete Communion!!
  5. I agree with everything here, but would add Out To Lunch and Open Sesame as truly outstanding achievements. I like Blue Spirits, too FWIW.

    Evan Parker

Squidco has it at $15.95. Bargain basement for avant jazz vinyl these days, says a man weary of the seemingly standard $25-30 price tag on most recent titles in memory.
  7. Jeff, do you remember how much it cost? I'd be curious.
  8. I bought the contents of the JMac Mosaic in one fell swoop, and same with the 4 or so early titles I was missing. I think I just need Demon Dance, Bout Soul and SSS now. Jackie will do that to you.
  9. Yes, the Freddie Hubbard group with James Spaulding and Ronnie Matthews was described as a working group in the notes for one of the BNs ... Hub-Tones, maybe?
  10. I am shocked and apalled that Dodo Greene remains neglected as well! But in all seriousness, someone needs to put Portrait of Shiela back in print.
  11. Perhaps he's making the point that while GG was a pretty straightforward, in the pocket player, he worked with some of the hottest, most searching musicians of the time. I love Green's playing, but his (I'm assuming) choice in sidemen certainly helps bump his sessions up a notch.
  12. The new ECM box set is up for pre-order at Amazon. The outer box is essentially the Conception Vessel cover, but the individual CDs are still in plain slipcases.
  13. Wow, that was fast. Hope I'll see mine soon.
  14. We've been here before, but man, really ... come on. Not a chance.
  15. Irabagon's Foxy is so SO good. The Combria Concert by MOPDTK on Clean Feed is very nice.
  16. As far as records I want? They number in the high hundreds if not above. But these are the hard to find ones that I'm always on the hunt for and will go to the end of the earth to obtain before I die. Unless that happens tomorrow, you know. Joe McPhee - Songs & Dances Braxton - Santa Cruz 1993 / Willisau 1991 / all Moers titles Ran Blake - Take 1 / Take 2 Franz Koglmann - all Hat 6000 series titles Leimgruber/Hauser/Leandre - No Try No Fail Cecil Taylor - Berlin 1988 Lee Konitz - Live at the Half Note Jimmy Giuffre 3 - Empasis & Flight John Carter - Echoes From Rudolph's Tony Oxley - The Baptised Traveller Butch Morris Conducts Berlin Skyscraper David Murray - Death of a Sideman Jimmy Lyons - Riffs / Push-Pull Clifford Thornton - Gardens of Harlem

    Ran Blake

Not that I know. The Connor and Russell albums are the only ones currently listed, but hopefully it won't be out much later. Ran has voiced concerns before about "flooding the market" with albums, so perhaps he's looking to temper that.

    Ran Blake

The Chris Connor recital mentioned by brownie and the George Russell album are slated for release this year, though the later is no longer coming via Hat Hut, no doubt related to their recent financial woes. The Connor album in particular has been among Ran's ambitions for many years so I'm excited to hear the final result.
  19. Nice article; this would make a good mix tape! I love this observation: "Dexter’s always been a favorite, and here’s a great example of his giant sound at full power. It’s also a good example of jazz rocking harder than rock music." Another example is "No Tonic Pres" off Rip, Rig & Panic.
  20. Agreed on Riley and Wright. Also going to add Irene Schweizer. Those Intakts are absolutely locked in the mid-$20 range. I've never seen one of hers for much less.
  21. I was inspired to grab a new Warne Marsh album, but a glance at Amazon reveals nothing affordable that I don't already have. Damn ...
  22. Can you expound on the Mapleshade issue?
  23. Steve, I know you're also a huge fan of the Hemingway 5. I was listening to Waltzes, Two-Steps, & Other Matters of the Heart (culled from multiple shows, alas) the other day and was just newly blown away by how insanely good that band and those songs are. Complete and total mastery. How how how do you so consistently write such melodic, complex, challenging, engaging and above-all enjoyable tunes? Gerry did it, and they played it with ease. And that's how it sounds: so easy!
  24. He's one where if he's on it, I'll check it out. I certainly need more but really enjoy what I have. Blowing In From Chicago and The Highest Mountain are favorites. One of the great examples of a player evolving with the times. I wish someone would collect all the Magic Triangle recordings in one package.
  25. YES. I have been dying for this since I heard. Ordering NOW.
