Great lineup for the 2011 Melbourne Jazz Festival this year Sonny Rollins, Lee Konitz, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Norma Winstone, Jason Moran, Ron Carter, Sun Ra Arkestra (also doing a masterclass) plus German avant rockers Faust and many others looks like I'm going to have to make the 2000km trek from Brisbane for the week (early June)

LF Sun Ra Disco 3000, 2CD version
romualdo replied to romualdo's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I just ordered one via Amazon UK - landed it here in Australia for approx 17 Aussie dollars Amazon UK has an offer on free shipping to Aust/NZ till May if you order £25 or more Also the actual listed price (£12.99) is reduced (by approx 16%) as VAT is removed - I've been buying lots of material this way since this shipping deal was instituted Also a good way to get the Stan Getz quintet box (comes down to £27 with free shipping) - OOS at present though -

The set is available from Amazon Marketplace sellers on all the Amazon sites I've visited (U.S., U.K., Germany, France), but the prices are pretty high. I've seen the prices on amazon - a bit out of my range Trying the Greg Drusdow lead Many thanks for the contact have sent Greg an email - we'll see what happens I wonder if it is possible to contact Danny Thompson? -
This set was released in 2007 & must have sold out quickly (was looking for it in 2009 without success) I know it's a long shot but anyone out there with copy they are prepared to part with PM me if interested in parting with this

Just noticed this on ebay while doing a random search for Joe Harriott http://cgi.ebay.com/MJQ-Live-Joe-Harriott-Ronnie-Ross-2-UNISSUED-CDs-/140512155681?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item20b72d5821#ht_500wt_1156 I've just been reading about this in Harriott's book (Fire In His Soul) - this concert is discussed There is a bit of live material (with Harriott) stored in the British Library Sound Archive (BLSA) - wonder if this is from there or is it a private recording Any comments on this recording? Found the sound library site & tried to navigate it but was unable to find any of these recordings from the late 50's early 60's Can you download from theBLSA?

Thanks all for the info - much appreciated I should have got an idea from the label title!!
-
In the very earl 60's Mal Waldron released a truckload (more than 10?) of LP's on the Music Minus One Label. What's the story behind this - record & track titles suggest easy listening jazz - was it a budget enterprise? I'm sure none of this material has ever been near the commercial digital domain

Found 3 threads on the Avid label and merged them to keep all info and opinions in one place. Thanks Hans

I've picked up a few of these over the past year or so (O'Day, Cohn, Sims, Hodges) Helped out on some of the Mosaic sets I missed out on I'm happy with the sound but I can't tell if they are needle drops - I'm sure they must be or possibly have sourced other CD's (Japanese or Mosaics?) AVID appears to be a UK outfit similar to the Spanish (dubious source material using the 50 year copyright law) There have been previous threads on this (I think I commenced one)

CD's made it to Australia - all safe & sound Thanks again

I have the Ayler DIW CD The First Recordings, Vol 2 - this is an awful needle drop job & the LP it's been transferred from is littered with pops/cracks etc. Was disappointed when I got this one!!
-
I have the Prevue CD version (PR4- released 1998) Cover is the same as above Prevue "A Division of Classic Records" (© 1998) under licence from Xanadu Records Ltd (1959, 1975) I'm quite sure this is a legit release - certainly doesn't sound like a needle drop

I'd have to agree - trios & quartets, some with Fred Anderson & some with Ken Vandermark pm sent on Koglmann/Konitz - Duke & Mengelberg - Chicago

Now I am getting excited!!! Here's the list of his Columbia releases (8 LP's & 3 EP's) - you could manage a Mosaic Select with #'s 1-6 & 10 (other 4 are collaborations) but I would prefer a "big box" Mosaic, covering all of this music & maybe throw in "Free Form" If a Mosaic was done, that would have to be one of my buy's of the decade!! 1. JH Quartet - Col EP SEG 7665 (rec 1955) 2. Blue Harriott - Col EP SEG 7939 (rec 1959) 3. A Guy Called Joe - Col EP SEG 8070 (rec 1960) - The Jazzland Southern Horizons LP 937 was a compilation of this & the "Blue Harriott" EP 4. Abstract - Col LP 1477 (rec 61-62) 5. Movement - Col LP 1627 (rec 63) 6. High Spirits - Col LP 1692 (rec 64) 7. Indo-Jazz Suite - Col LP 6025 (rec 65) 8. Indo-Jazz Fusions - Col LP 6122 (rec 66) 9. Indo-Jazz Fusions II - Col LP 6215 (rec 67) 10. Personal Portrait - Col LP 6249 (rec 67) 11. Hum-Dono - Col LP 6354 (rec 69) BTW Alan Robertson's OOP book on JH (Fire In His Soul - Northway Publications) is being republished this May with minor alterations

Has Mosaic ever covered a non US jazz artist/group? What about a Joe Harriott Columbia Box - He released/coreleased 8 LPs & 3 EPS two of which were combined into a further LP Most of this material has never had CD release (4 LP's have but are now on the endangered list) This would be too big for a Mosaic Select & would require the Big Box treatment. Any support out there for this? While we're on the subject the Gearbox label has released an LP only recording of a 1962 BBC session.

Wonder what the $4200 vinyl item was??

I've noticed that the 3 CB Criss Cross CD's (Blues For A Reason, Chet's Choice & Live At Nicks) are all OOP & are not listed on the CC website. These are all great late period recordings & I'm surprised that they have been deleted. These would be consistent sellers for the label, so i'm wondering if there are legal issues here with CB's estate etc? (or maybe they are in the process of being remastered). Anyone out there with some inside information?

I'm interested in obtaining the two Stitt early 70's Cobblestone/Muse sessions, Constellation & Tune Up - they tend to be highly regarded I'd appreciate some advice on the "best" sounding CD version to date ie Two individual Muse CD's (early 90's), single 32 Jazz CD (late 90's) or the most recent Spanish (Gambit) single CD issue. There are probably Japanese versions also. I've read that the Gambit pressing/mastering sounds pretty good!
