You gotta check him out. He blended just a tiny bit of jazz into his music, but it all worked out good. He should of invented a new style of music, but he was practically the only doing what he was doing.
Happy Birthday Wes! I found out farily recently, compared to how long I have been listening to Wes that he died at such an early age. There is actually footage of him appearing on The Hollywood Palace, weeks before he died in 1968. I think he preformed Windy from one of his current A&M albums at the time. Herb Alpert hosted the show, and Brazil 66, Baja Marimba Band, Liza Manelli, Boyce And Hart, Burt Bacharach were also on the show. I own the tape.
Alpert. Herb was a good trumpet player. Very sharp. Nothing he played was wimpy. He had a sound similar to Miles, in the mellow category.
The sound as a whole sounds the same. During Rise, Alpert was still play more of a fusion style, some funk influence. In the 80's he was practically completely all pop, just like Davis.
Yeah me too, but cut alpert alittle slack. Time After Time, and Human Nature sound identical to Alpert's late 80's recordings as Blow Your Own Horn, Magic Man, Beyond, etc..

Wow, you are focused! I usually, (what am I talking about... Like 20 times a day!), throw on a cd, and just play along, either on guitar, or drums, or play electric bass, just hoping and wishing for an acoustic one. I read a little bit, but mostly just play along to some disks.
What do you think of Miles Davis's real late recordings, such as Time After Time, and Human Nature? I think they sound a lot like late Herb Alpert. That must of been the hot sound for the trumpet in the 80's.
Its fine you dont like Martin Denny. I found his Hawiaan albums very hard to dig at first. It is odd that they were all hyped more about you not liking Denny then whatever Che said.
