  1. His brother, Cal played bass marimba in The Baja Marimba Band.
  2. I just got home with Home Cookin' from Jimmy Smith. Pretty nice grooves! Allright. Not one of the worst, by any measure!
  3. I love Philly's solos on that date. I always thought the tunes were pretty cleaver.
  4. Going out right now to Borders. I'll tell you guys what I come back with, and if I think it belongs on the 'worst' list.
  5. Michael Cusina? he's writing all those new RVG edition BN's.
  6. Jamal & New Orleans drummers seem to have been a good fit. I guess you know of Vernell's roots.
  7. Can't help you there, but I sure would love it if that art dissapeared.
  8. I have been saying they just need a gong. It would get the show on so much faster that way.
  9. It just didn't capture the magic, to me.
  10. A New Perspective is the one.
  11. Or maybe then a Caravelle.
  12. You make this post: in a thread titled Worst Albums, which you started, so I assume you understand the premise. How is that not saying you consider GO one of the worst? I didn't mean it as THE WORST. I stated Go, then explained why I never dug it. I guess I should of been more specific, and it's my bad. But, now you know. I dont think of it as one of THE WORST BN's. See what kind of trouble you get into when you cut school for the day? Couldn't tell ya. Didnt cut school today.
  13. no indication of that on the album or the jacket. This is on the Czech Supraphon label, SUC 15146, my guess is early 60s. Than niether 737 or 727. Probaly either a 707 or Constelation. Or maybe a Dc-8, or Convair 880.

  15. Didn't he record all his albums with the guitar first, than with the piano?
  16. I mean this stuff is wierd, how it all works. For some reason I just don't dig it. I think the album was a little bit too over-mojulated. Billy Higgins's rivet cymbol is too close to the mic. It gets very crackly. That has been known to happen on a lot of BN albums. Such as Tina Brooks' Waiting Game.
  17. I'll back anything he says. And he's been around pretty damn long.

Here it is .... a fine, chamber jazz album ... with Bill Smith (clarinet), Barney Kessell, Buddy Collette, Red Mitchell, and Shelly Manne ... OJC 1015 (Contemporary 7534) That's it! i'm considering purchasing that one!
  19. I know. I always said I hate when these new pop singers do that. But then I heard George Benson doing it 30 years ago, and I actually liked it.
  20. Oh, I wasn't putting it in the worst category. I said I didn't really enjoy it.
  21. somehow, I know how you feel!
  22. not yet. -_-
