  1. Melba Liston
  2. Julius Wechter, Tonni Kalash, Bernie Fleischer.
  3. I have been sick all weekend, and today. So I put on, last night, the album that clears my head, Kind Of Blue.
  4. These are awesome. I still can't attatch an image.
  5. Chico Hamilton, A Differen't Journey.
  6. Buddy Rich was jewish, yes. Dave Samuels too.
  7. Yes. Opened up for a Ray Charles show two years ago.
  8. I haven't really participated in this thread that much. I just want to say, Los Ritmos is awesome! I love the melodies on every song. There is not that much vibraphone on the album, but it is a percussionist's dream album.
  9. I think getting old does take its toll on some musicians. I guess more with horn players, because they become weak, but some can really blow. Haven't heard much of Art Blakey in his later years, but when he was on the Cos. Show, he did his fancy stick trick, and he hit the rims and stuff, and it didn't cook that much.
  10. Which Jimmy Smith album?? Frustrating thing. At my usual vintage vinyl outlet, there is a marker for a section for Smith, but there are NEVER any albums in that section. I have tons of Smith on CD, but nothing, so far, on vinyl. I remain hopeful, but damn that's frustrating. Home Cookin' boy!
  11. or have a life, unlike us..
  12. Soulstream, you probaly got the same book as me. With Smith saying that when he taught Shirley, he had to tell her to, "close the gates." Smith, I guess, thought he was the best damn organ player in the world. I don't know if that is true, but there is no denying his talent. I forget the organist he says, is a "Jimmy Smith copy-cat."
  13. I assume you read the book about having a child, that has, on the cover, a picture of a man staring at a road sign that says, "Having A Life," one way, and "Having A Child," the other way.
  14. Here's what Jimmy Smith thought John Patton. "John Patton is average, nothing that great," Jimmy Smith. He called Larry Young and Shirley Scott his understudies.
  15. One of my friends' father is going. Cream. Haven't heard too much of them.
  16. The trumpet player is Howard Magee. That's a great video- JJ is playing his ass off. Was what I said the actually case? Was Sonny really pissed off at that guy Howard? Something's going on, I'm not sure what. It definitely seems that Stitt doesn't think much of Magee's antics. Looks like he was very hurt and tried to cover it up with laughter.
  17. I yet to hear BATCS. Is it as laid-back as Home Cookin'. HC's very subtle, but it swings! I love Smith's rendition of I Got A Women.
  18. Where's he playing?
  19. I just spinned Unity last night. I believe it was WBGO, that was accepting donations for someone jazz musician that was ill? I dont fully remember.
  20. If the music is good, the music is good! That's all I have to say.
