Well, that shows you how much I'm paying attention: I didn't realize Grolnick and Alias had passed away. Is the rest of this album as lovely as this song? I love this kind of groove! The vibes and the flute add a real nice color to this song!
-
I like this track, but I've never been crazy about this kind of engineering/miking (not sure I'm conveying the right message), and I'm not sure I would buy this album. But this track is nice enough!

Wow, she's just as beautiful as her voice! IMO, she looks a lot like Nicole Kidman! During the scat section, she sounds just like Ella, which really threw me the first time. And I don't usually enjoy scat singing! Is that Jose Rodriguez the same one who played on those Tjader records of the 50's? Or am I just mixing up names?

I'm giving this BFT another spin, having forgotten all about it during the Christmas season and my own BFT. I forgot how much I enjoyed this the first time around, and now that the answers are posted, well..... thank God my birthday's coming soon, as quite a few discs have just made the gimme list! With y'alls kind indulgence, I'm gonna comment on tracks as I go along.

Digression thread: Coherence is overrated

I'm wearing my socks inside out today. For some reason, they feel so much more comfy this way. -
Are you kidding? I dig honesty! I can take it if someone doesn't like one of the tunes I put on my BFT, especially after all the griping I've done on other folks BFTs! You have no idea how perceptive you are! Others have already guessed the title, so I can't wait to hear your reaction when you find out the name of this song! "Puh" is a word I've never heard, but it cracks me up every time I see you use it! I like to sing along to this song as well, but only in the car, while driving down der strasse! 'tis Baker! Point for the Bassman! :applause: There's that word again! I love it! Yeah, it's a waltz, but no points for that! Nothing to apologize for! You either dig it or you don't, and you're certainly not the first not to dig this tune! Follow you? Hell, I'm thinking of moving to Germany to follow both you AND Mikeweil around as a whiny roadie! (I am German by descent, and can kinda sorta understand the language. At least I know how order bier over there!) Anyway, you described the mood perfectly for this song! The opening statement of this tune does that for me every time! Oh, I'm sure you know the drummer! I'm looking forward to it!

Okay, my streak is still alive! I just figured out track 7 while walking down the hall. I'll reveal my guess on the discussion thread! Oh boy, TWO correct guesses on one BFT! I'm feelin' GOOOOOOOOOD!!!!

I hung with King Kong. He was jealous. -
And Everything Must Go was better than that, which in turn was surpassed by Morph the Cat! Past their prime my fat ass; these guys keep getting better with age!

Who said it was Whitfield?

I menioned Hayes? Not that I remember .... No, no, no! You're supposed to say, "Damn straight I said Hayes because it IS Hayes, and don't ever question my musical genius ever again!" :g :g If I only knew who it is, so I can break his drumsticks ... No love for the candy man? I thought he did a pretty nice job!
-
Yes, it's Louis Hayes on the drums! I knew Mr. Bassman would figure out Ray Brown on this tune! And you got the Hawk as well! Two points for Bassman! Somebody else recognized Evans by his left hand; that's pretty impressive, AFAIC! Anyway, that fade-out is on the album itself. I don't know why, either. I'm surprised you didn't recognize the bassist, since you recognized him earlier! Me too! Reading your stories was an added treat!
-
Lucky for you he was right! Points for Mr. Bassman! You, my friend, have very good ears! :tup At first, I was confused, but now I understand: were you thinking that this was 2 albums on 1 CD? Because it's the leadoff track from the second album in that thread! I'm pretty sure you're right, though! Man, these are great stories! Keep 'em coming! I think at some point, I'm gonna fly to Germany to have a BFT listening session with you guys! And of course you get a point! Like I said to Dan before, grab every point you can get! Yes, very definitely KB! It's from an album that, for reasons unknown to me, is very difficult to find, but well worth buying if you see it! Yes, it's Ron Carter on bass. I figured his sound was instantly identifiable. You correctly identified the guitarist, but I'm mean so I'm not going to tell you which one! Once again, Mike was right and therefore you get the points by association! Yes, it's definitely an electric bass, and this bassline is a gas to play! Whatta guy! Stopping his BFT guesses to cook dinner for his beloved!
-
I'm jealous! I wish I had someone to guess BFT's with! How cool would that be? I mean, I could guess along with Sangrey, but I'd just be writing down his answers verbatim! Virtual typewriter! Love it! The bass player isn't too prominent on this track, but yes, it is most definitely Art Blakey on the drums! "Pennsylvania 6-5000!" Ha! At first I thought it was a good joke, then I remembered the first three notes of this song and realized, "Hey, I can see that!" One of these days, I gotta listen for "Hit the Road, Jack" in this song and see if I can hear what everyone else is hearing! But you are definitely on the right path! Great story! Tell young Mr. Bassman () that he's got good ears! :tup

I got my disc yesterday, and oh boy oh boy is it GOOD!!!! Discs like this are the whole reason I used to enjoy the BFT! I hope this trend continues! Track 6 I know only because I have the CD and, oddly enough, I used a track from this same disc on my BFT 21! Track 7, I believe, will be the first time I recognize a tune from my collection, but I can't identify it. Yet!

Reading Bassman's posts have been such a treat! I can hear a very heavy German accent in his guesses! There's a DJ on a local radio station who is Bavarian and he has a Bavarian show playing polkas, German music, as well as big bands from America, stuff like that, and he's always talking about Bavaria und ze Bavarian food und ze music und he never stopz talking long enough to take a breath because he goes from one topic to ze next.... and it is always a blast to listen to him! I wish I knew his name; for all I know, maybe it is Mr. Bassman! Anyway, detailed comments to follow!

Who says you can't wear black socks with sneakers? -
I didn't see Bennett perform, but I have to agree with the above sentiment. He's dangling close to Sinatra territory of self-parody, right before he checked out for good. She looks awful. Is there a reason she's so big? I'm serious; I'm not trying to make fun of her. Yeah, she looks good; whether it's natural or not is anyone's guess, but having Beyonce up there really brought the performance down a few notches. Tina has more fire in her soul than ten Beyonce's, who sounded bored, lifeless, and uninspired throughout. Glad I missed these. Never had any use for Keyes. Winehouse is... well, I guess "awful" pretty much sums it up. NOT glad I missed this. He's always entertaining. Hell, his GEICO commercial makes me laugh!!! Was Clinton nominated in another category besides the one in which he lost to Obama? (A trend which I hope will continue) See above. It's certainly worth repeating.

I was in the other room when the Aretha gospel scream-fest started and respectfully asked that the "mute" button be pressed. My God, that was awful. If that's what the heavenly choir sounds like, well.... to paraphrase Bon Scott, maybe hell ain't a bad place to be. Foo Fighters were infinitely worse. Yet another thing I can blame on Kurt Cobain. I liked Grohl a lot better when he was playing the drums and keeping his yap shut. Haven't been watching since.
