  1. Who said it was Whitfield?
  2. I menioned Hayes? Not that I remember .... No, no, no! You're supposed to say, "Damn straight I said Hayes because it IS Hayes, and don't ever question my musical genius ever again!" :g :g If I only knew who it is, so I can break his drumsticks ... No love for the candy man? I thought he did a pretty nice job!
  3. Yes, it's Louis Hayes on the drums! I knew Mr. Bassman would figure out Ray Brown on this tune! And you got the Hawk as well! Two points for Bassman! Somebody else recognized Evans by his left hand; that's pretty impressive, AFAIC! Anyway, that fade-out is on the album itself. I don't know why, either. I'm surprised you didn't recognize the bassist, since you recognized him earlier! Me too! Reading your stories was an added treat!
  4. Lucky for you he was right! Points for Mr. Bassman! You, my friend, have very good ears! :tup At first, I was confused, but now I understand: were you thinking that this was 2 albums on 1 CD? Because it's the leadoff track from the second album in that thread! I'm pretty sure you're right, though! Man, these are great stories! Keep 'em coming! I think at some point, I'm gonna fly to Germany to have a BFT listening session with you guys! And of course you get a point! Like I said to Dan before, grab every point you can get! Yes, very definitely KB! It's from an album that, for reasons unknown to me, is very difficult to find, but well worth buying if you see it! Yes, it's Ron Carter on bass. I figured his sound was instantly identifiable. You correctly identified the guitarist, but I'm mean so I'm not going to tell you which one! Once again, Mike was right and therefore you get the points by association! Yes, it's definitely an electric bass, and this bassline is a gas to play! Whatta guy! Stopping his BFT guesses to cook dinner for his beloved!
  5. I'm jealous! I wish I had someone to guess BFT's with! How cool would that be? I mean, I could guess along with Sangrey, but I'd just be writing down his answers verbatim! Virtual typewriter! Love it! The bass player isn't too prominent on this track, but yes, it is most definitely Art Blakey on the drums! "Pennsylvania 6-5000!" Ha! At first I thought it was a good joke, then I remembered the first three notes of this song and realized, "Hey, I can see that!" One of these days, I gotta listen for "Hit the Road, Jack" in this song and see if I can hear what everyone else is hearing! But you are definitely on the right path! Great story! Tell young Mr. Bassman () that he's got good ears! :tup
  6. I got my disc yesterday, and oh boy oh boy is it GOOD!!!! Discs like this are the whole reason I used to enjoy the BFT! I hope this trend continues! Track 6 I know only because I have the CD and, oddly enough, I used a track from this same disc on my BFT 21! Track 7, I believe, will be the first time I recognize a tune from my collection, but I can't identify it. Yet!
  7. Reading Bassman's posts have been such a treat! I can hear a very heavy German accent in his guesses! There's a DJ on a local radio station who is Bavarian and he has a Bavarian show playing polkas, German music, as well as big bands from America, stuff like that, and he's always talking about Bavaria und ze Bavarian food und ze music und he never stopz talking long enough to take a breath because he goes from one topic to ze next.... and it is always a blast to listen to him! I wish I knew his name; for all I know, maybe it is Mr. Bassman! Anyway, detailed comments to follow!
  8. Who says you can't wear black socks with sneakers?
  9. I didn't see Bennett perform, but I have to agree with the above sentiment. He's dangling close to Sinatra territory of self-parody, right before he checked out for good. She looks awful. Is there a reason she's so big? I'm serious; I'm not trying to make fun of her. Yeah, she looks good; whether it's natural or not is anyone's guess, but having Beyonce up there really brought the performance down a few notches. Tina has more fire in her soul than ten Beyonce's, who sounded bored, lifeless, and uninspired throughout. Glad I missed these. Never had any use for Keyes. Winehouse is... well, I guess "awful" pretty much sums it up. NOT glad I missed this. He's always entertaining. Hell, his GEICO commercial makes me laugh!!! Was Clinton nominated in another category besides the one in which he lost to Obama? (A trend which I hope will continue) See above. It's certainly worth repeating.
  10. I was in the other room when the Aretha gospel scream-fest started and respectfully asked that the "mute" button be pressed. My God, that was awful. If that's what the heavenly choir sounds like, well.... to paraphrase Bon Scott, maybe hell ain't a bad place to be. Foo Fighters were infinitely worse. Yet another thing I can blame on Kurt Cobain. I liked Grohl a lot better when he was playing the drums and keeping his yap shut. Haven't been watching since.
  11. Ignorance an asset? Hell, I've known that for years!
  12. I agree with a poster of a comment following the story:
  13. Yeah, well.... the Rangers have ALWAYS had potential. This year will be no different. But hey, they've re-signed Nolan Ryan! Whoopee! Can you say "desperation move?" He's allegedly going to be having a lot of hands-on activities on the field as well as off. We'll see if Hicks ego allows for someone else to make moves without his permission. I bet he doesn't last around here longer than a couple years before he realizes the losing mentality of the Rangers "organization" will never be overcome as long as Hicks, Daniels, and Washington are running the show. Yes, I think this signing was just an act to try and give fans some glimmer of hope without ever defining where that hope is supposed to come from. In other words, meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Rangers will finish dead last this year. Again. Mark my words.
  14. Big Al

    Amy Winehouse

I heard that "Back to Rehab" song on the radio, but heard it from the middle of the song to the end. I thought I was hearing a bad Ronettes outtake when I heard the famous chorus. Yeesh!
  15. I tried it, but all I saw was "Hook 'em Horns!"
  16. NO, NO, NO!!!
  17. Nahh, yer cool! I's just givin' ya some good-natured grief!
  18. Thank you! What does "excentic" mean? It means "excentric" .... I had a few LPs with holes slightly off center, and Rhodes was always the first instrument from which I noticed! Ah! Well, yes it was dubbed from an LP, but last time I checked, the only thing off-center was me! I think the reverb is going something fierce on the elec piano!
  19. Looks like a Before/After shot of Conn's eyes after a night of Live Chat
  20. I love LMTYABI, and really wish I could hear Rollin' with Leo. Maybe I'll be as fortunate as durium and find a used LP of it sometime!
  21. Don't worry, I am NOT posting naked.
  22. Nope, you were correct with your link. Here's another one I'm surprised no one's gotten. Then OTOH people are nailing Fred Wesley left and right! This was supposed to be the trick track, folks! You're not supposed to be getting this one right! Sheesh!!! Thank you! What does "excentic" mean? All will be revealed in due course. Actually I think I mentioned this track earlier in the thread, but I'm too tired/lazy to dig it out! Danke, mein freund!
  23. You got THAT right!!! Now come on: name that tune!!! Seriously, though, I'm not too big a fan of this set, but this one track makes the whole set worthwhile Chet yes; Riverside no. A very beautiful album indeed, but this is the only track that is even remotely bossa nova. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Nothin' to know. This is my favorite of those albums.
  24. Wow! I'd like to hear your definition of "modern" sometime! Glenn Miller on up Or Glenn Miller on crack. STFU FFA!!!!
