  1. No kidding! I don't own much Levey, but what I do have--the Stan Getz West Coast Sessions and The Arrival of Victor Feldman--I enjoy the heck out of 'em! Man, did he SWING! RIP
  2. Thanks for sharing this, Vic. The warmth you describe was ever-present in NHØP's playing. RIP NHØP
  3. I didn't even think to call animal control when this happened to me. I just decided to end the relationship. When I saw the title of this thread, my first thought was the ascending chord structure of "When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around" and what a gas that is to play on the fretless bass!
  4. Happy Happy, fellow Texan. Even if you went to THAT university!
  5. Always thought that was Wayne Shorter and his wife (whose name escapes me at the moment). I take it the RVG doesn't say who it is?
  6. Yup, same thing happened to my dad. FWIW, this is now the only baseball thread. Two threads was unnecessary.
  7. I have no Cugat, but that will likely change on the 26th! That disc looks mighty tasty!
  8. Resurrecting an old thread to tell anyone interested that the complete Songbook box is available thru yourmusic.com for less than $100.
  9. LB2 responds with a "Same here!"
  10. ...and a great reissue that was! Three great albums: The Soul of Ben Webster Gee, Baby Ain't I Good to You (Sweets) Blues-a-Plenty (Hodges) The first one, Soul of, is probably the most underrated of Ben's classic Verve sides! With Roy Eldridge, Art Farmer, and Vic Dickenson in one of the hottest front-lines on record, and the always subtle Jimmy Jones on piano, this is a perfect companion to the more-well-known-but-no-less-worthy Ben Webster and Associates (also with Jones on the piano!)
  11. Not jazz, but probably fun: (for the uninformed) Heck yeah!!!!
  12. Sorry I missed it. Where is it? Big Al, I meant all the reissues you listed in your original post for this thread! OOOHHHHHHHH, now I get it! You meant that they had all already been released on your side of the pond! Some of us Americans, especially us Texans, are a little slow on the draw this AM!
  13. I’m spinning that right now. I’ve always liked this date, as it was one the first jazz CDs I bought when I was going thru a big Ben Webster jones right around the time I started getting into jazz (around ’96 or so). Say what you will about the rhythm section, but I rather like OP on this (as opposed to his trio dates), and Ben & Sweets are in fine form! Just a nice bluesy groove throughout, especially on “Taste on the Place.” Plus, it has one of my favorite versions of “Moonlight in Vermont.” But I’m really looking forward to the present Sweets disc. I mean, Jimmy Rowles, come ON!!!!! He’s the MAN! No wonder Ben dug him so much!
  14. Sorry I missed it. Where is it?
  15. One of the best reissue programs is gonna drain my wallet AGAIN!!! Check it out: April 12 (okay, I'm three days late; so shoot me!) Al Cohn Quintet featuring Bob Brookmeyer Sweets - Harry "Sweets" Edison (another thread about this album here!) Sittin' In - Dizzy Gillespie Joe Newman Quintet at Count Basie's April 26 Cugi's Cocktails - Xavier Cugat Gene Krupa Plays Gerry Mulligan Arrangements Blues Caravan - Buddy Rich Jazz in 3/4 Time - Max Roach
  16. Some years back, the group Kentucky Headhunters did an album with Johnnie caled That'll Work that featured JJ on vocals for the title track. It's a rollicking fun disc that is worth picking up, if you can find it!
  17. Bill Evans in general, but my favorite album with an electric piano is Hubert Laws In the Beginning, electric piano played by Bob James of all people.
  18. Did Sweets ever put out a bad record? I think a Sweets Verve Mosaic would be.... well, y'know..... SWEET!!!!
  19. "Blind Man, Blind Man" and now "I Have a Dream," from wonderful vinyl. Ahhhhh, I forgot how nice vinyl truly sounds!
  20. Chan Ho Park pitches 6-2/3 innings and only gives up three runs. Well, now that he's got his one good game out of his system, things ought to return to normal around here......
  21. I missed Organissimo!!!!! AAAAAARGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I s'pose I could listen to the CD, but HEARING IT ON THE RADIO IS SO MUCH COOLER!!!!!
  22. What is that song playing right now? I should know this title, but it's escaping me right now!
  23. Great! Now I want half of HER settlement as payback for having to hear that awful shrieking on the frickin' classic rock radio! That track is the single WORST track in all of Floyd's considerable oeuvre.
  24. Awwww, MAAAN!!!! That one hurts!
