  1. Just makes the July blackout all the more heartbreaking..... Put out the next record already!!!
  2. Aftab’s signature line is so cool! Anyone else ever read it and then get the urge to yell, “Hold it! That’s not gonna sell the records!!!”

    Love, Devotion, and Surrender, baby!
  4. The more I listened to this, the more I enjoyed those specific tracks I enjoyed the first time around. Here’s hoping the “unknown” musicians on track 2 become more well-known!

    Them Not them again!!!
  6. Actually, yes they can! Did you see the URL address for this image? http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00065JTBA.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg -_-
  7. Track 2: The guitarist reminds me of Peter Leitch. In fact, were it not for the sax player, I would’ve thought it was something from Up Front, as the drummer sounds like Smitty Smith. So, that’ll be my guess—Leitch & Smith on their respective instruments—even though I have no clue as to who the sax player is.

First base! (edited cuz I got my comedy routines mixed up)
  9. That's gotta hurt. No wonder he was so cranky.

Them. And if not them, then who?
  11. Are the McGriff and Patterson discs available on CD (I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope)?

    Then, who played?
  13. That's what I thought, too! I didn't want to say anything until an expert spoke up!
  14. Any good Christmas/holiday greeeeaze out there, in addition to the J.O.S. CD that's coming out?
  15. So, is there a way to hook up a stereo to a PC for music editing? I'm guessing I would need to go from the headphone jack of my stereo (no line-outs in the back, drattit) to the mic jack on the PC. Yes?
  16. Welcome to the board, fellow Texan! Great pictures!
  17. Yeah, me too! Heck, I always make my comments knowing full well that when it comes to my turn, there’s gonna be at least one person who will post something like “Criminey, Al; were ya TRYING to put me to sleep?” I listened to track three again, and I’m glad you guys identified it. At some points, to these ears, the tone of the alto suggested Bobby McFerrin trying to sound like an alto sax. Track four must be interesting enough to quite a few folks. It’s torture to me! Track eight, ehhhhh…. I dunno. I mean, I admire it’s complexity & all, but after a while, I get lost and forget what the heck I’m listening to and it just becomes so much of a blur.

Jack Bruce is still completely full of shit.
  19. My turn for the BFT is coming up and it looks like it’s going to happen right in time for the holidays. I’m going to be making two discs: one for the regular BFT, and then another to be determined. I’m looking for feedback as to which one would get the most responses: A special Christmas BFT, featuring Christmas/holiday songs in mainly jazz settings (along with the occasional left-field track). No elevator/shopping-mall music, I guarantee you! -OR- A disc that I like to call “Short Attention Span Radio,” which is the aural equivalent of changing the radio station every ten seconds and hearing clips of songs. It consists of various guitar/piano/synth/whatever solos, song openings, fadeouts, and other random noise that always jump out at me from a particular song. I’ve had a tape of this for about ten years which I love to listen to, and I thought it would be fun to FINALLY digitize the thing and let y’all guess the contents of the disc. I would start a thread with a blank form, and as people post their guesses, the correct answer would then be posted to the original post (along with the name of the poster who guessed first). There’s no prizes for the most guesses except for the fawning praise of the maker of the disc for having as little a life as me. I’ll wrap up voting when the signup for BFT 21 starts. Thanks for playing!
  20. I need to listen to track 8 again. And track 3. As for track 6, I listened to that track again and.... well, I understand now why the word "Impressions" is in the album title. Very impressionistic. Which, unfortunately for me, doesn't hold my attention for very long!
  21. Yup
  22. Happy Birthday Paul!!!
  23. Two more words which have already been mentioned, but worth repeating: BILLY HIGGINS!!! I'll write more later when I don't have a pounding headache, but suffice to say, the man could play anything, anytime, anywhere, with anyone. And he always sounds so blasted HAPPY when he's playing it!!!!
  24. I'm almost ashamed to admit that the bulk of the tracks lost my interest somewhere about two minutes into them; I'm interested in seeing other people's guesses, and hoping that I can find something to latch onto. Two tracks I knew, but I had to listen to them a few times to remember them: Track 1: I knew the tune, so it was a matter of figuring out who does a jazz version of it. The recording quality is so nice, I thought it was something recent. In fact, on first listen I thought it might be from Hubert Laws latest. Some digging reveals that it's actually track 8 from this album. To be honest, I would never have guessed these guys. I definitely need to check this one out! Track 9: This is the 2nd BFT in a row to feature a song by a certain artist whose CD (which this song came from) I used to have. I never learn. Had to search this one out as well; for though I knew the player, I couldn't remember the album. But, alas, it's the title track from this album. I don't remember this album making much of an impression on me (or maybe just not living up to the hype), but I do remember enjoying this track the most!
  25. I've seen it and get ready for a ferocious treat! Fogerty plays his ass off and looks like a little kid having the time of his life up there!
