Two words: Tina Fey.

Got a copy from the library. Listened to it a few times. I was wrong. No, I was mind-numbingly, completely bass-ackwards, head-in-the-hole, unbe-fucking-lievably WRONG!!!!! So many thoughts run through my mind when I listen to this, none of which amount to a grain of salt after the way I shot off my mouth at the beginning of this thread. But it did answer my question about the differing bands: I understand that Brian had empathetic and sympathetic musicians during the recording of this way back when. But those musicians weren’t his bandmates; those guys--the bandmates, the other Boys, that is—were, I suppose, part of the reason why this never came together. THIS band, however, is the complete package: great musicians, dedicated to the cause of their leader. Maybe more later, I dunno. As I said before, it doesn’t matter what I think. Crow eaten here. Smackdowns invited, if not encouraged. B-)

Well, I guess that explains the end of the previous marriage......

Which Lee Morgan CD/LP Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Big Al replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
How is that one? I guess it's worth picking up the TOCJ over the domestic on this one, ya? I really like it, and I'd agree that it is underrated. I picked up the TOCJ a few years ago when I was on a big Cedar Walton kick, and I wasn't disappointed. I've never heard the domestic version, but the TOCJ sounds mighty fine to me! Actually, the domestic version came out in '97, so I guess it can't sound all that bad. OH well, whichever I find first and cheapest is the one I'll get! -
Game # 7 Houston Vs. St. Louis

Ah well, 'twas fun while it lasted. At least the Astros can take consolation in the fact that they lost to a Division Champ with a better record than theirs, not a wild-card winner. Unlike another unnamed American League overpaid team. -

Which Lee Morgan CD/LP Are You Enjoying Right Now?

Groovy! I’ll have to see if I can find that one (the TOCJ that is!) Curiosity lead me to search out the recordings that feature Lee Morgan, Jackie McLean, AND Billy Higgins. There’s a lot more than I realized: BST 84312 Charisma / Lee Morgan BST 84335 The Sixth Sense / Lee Morgan LT 994 Consequence / Jackie McLean LT 1091 Infinity / Lee Morgan BST 84222 Cornbread / Lee Morgan BST 84270 Easterly Winds / Jack Wilson At this point, the only one remaining to be re-released is Consequence. Wonder if that will be Conn’d anytime soon? -

How is it? I had to go look that one up -- I had never heard of it! Is it OOP? Yeah, it's sweet, and very OOP. If you can find one, it's worth it. Mogie, Jackie McLean, Billy Higgins, Larry Willis (VASTLY underrated, IMHO) and Cranshaw (I think, going by memory here); this lineup lives up to its star quality. I just happened to snag one still sealed a few months back. And a good thing I made a CDR backup of it, cuz it broke when I traded it to a friend. -

Infinity, baby!!! -
I didn't realize this until just now, when I looked it up: Ruben Sierra made the final out last night. (I fell asleep before the game ended. Yes, I really was that tired!) Man, those ex-Rangers really stunk up the place last night! HA!!!! Does anyone have any articles or links to articles from various NY papers bemoaning the GREATEST CHOKE IN HISTORY? Would love to read 'em. B-)

Love it! If I was a sax player, I'd wanna sound like this! Only you would be playin' "We Built This City On Rock and Roll", I'm sure. B-)

You got that right! Like I said in the discussion thread, I wish I’d never traded it away. Another good one to get is Los Ritmos Calientes, another Fantasy two-fer that features Tjader on vibes & marimbas, as well as a plethora of other Latin percussion instruments. I’ve had it for years, and it still gets regular play at my house! I dunno, that one instrumental on the BFT was awfully tempting. Very haunting, y’know?

Wow! WoW!! WOW!!! Nice to be alive when history's bein' made. Congratulations RED SOX!!!! Perhaps the best part of all of this, from the perspective of a Ranger fan, is knowing A-Rod turned the Sox down because he wanted to be on a championship team. Yeah. Like Dan said, CHOKE ON IT, BUDDY!!!! Also, I was absolutely GIDDY that Kevin Brown went down in flames. I’ve hated that guy since he was on the Rangers. He’s a whiny, overpaid, tantrum-throwing washout who never had that much on the ball to begin with. He alienated a lot of folks around here, none of us were sad to see him go, and this just ices the cake! I love it!!! If the Astros win tonight, it’s gonna be tough to choose who to root for. In the end I’ll likely root for the ‘stros, being a Texan & all that, & they’ve never been to the Series, much less won one. But I certainly won’t be unhappy to see the Sox go all the way. However, if the Cards win tonight, it’s SOX all the way for me, baby. For the Sox, and for the Cubs!

There are some good moments on both of those records, for sure, but with the release of Duke, Collin's songwriting became more and more dominant with each record and soon led to albums like Invisible Touch. Of course, who could blame them? They'd been together for over a decade and never really had a hit and then Phil goes and does a solo record and BAM the thing explodes. I like Phil's first two or three solo records. After that, meh. Lately his output is just plain sad. You got THAT right! I think I see your original point, that the band "Genesis" died and became Phil Collins solo vehicle. In any event, the string of albums that encompasses Duke, Face Value, and for the most part Abacab is pretty damn near brilliant.

What he said! (I'm talking about me, TOO!!! Is there any other kind of humor? ) Seriously, I have GOT to start looking into those Chronological Classics discs. If these tracks are any indication, I am missing out on some wonderful music! Where's the best place to get 'em?
-
Aw, come on Jim: Duke and Abacab may not be vintage Genesis, but they're still pretty tight records nonetheless. Nothing to make you forget Gabriel was in the group, I'll give you that. I think Genesis officially died when that Invisible Touch crap came out, complete with the aforementioned ready-made beer-commercial "Tonight (x3)"

You got that right! I’m just glad that Fantasy is making a bunch of his stuff available!
