You guys are the best! Thanks for all the help. I didn't realize what a treasure trove I'd stumbled upon. I actually got this set because of the Tadd Dameron connection; I'd never heard any Fats before. Wow, what I've been missing! Extra thanks to mikeweil for pointing out something I'd forgotten: that the 12" orders are rarely any kind of measuring stick to use. So I guess, in essence, this CD of the complete works is really the best way to listen to it after all!

Britney Spears, celebrating the 60th anniversary of her first tour, gives new meaning to her recently remixed release "Oops, I Did It Again."

What? No John Hammond? Seriously, very cool indeed.

I think we've located Dmitry's Keynote set and Wesbed's Mosaic!

I got the Complete Blue Note Recordings of Fats Navarro and Tadd Dameron, and would like to program the CDs (and probably burn a CDR for car listening) to the running order of the original LPs. I've been searching the web, and can't find anything, so if anyone has the list or can post a link where I could find 'em, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I LOVE IT!!!

On second thought, maybe AfricaBrass could do something with it instead: maybe have the lady shake her hips, and then turn her head to reveal that she is really.... James T. Cat!!!

April RVG Reviews in Paste
Big Al replied to Eric's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Nice article indeed, but I SURE didn't care for his comments about The Natural Soul! B) -
Yeah! That and the fact that everything is overpriced and it seems like every time I'm in there, the music is blaring something awful, and it usually involves French Afro-gypsies chanting a three-tongued mantra in 15/13 time. As for The Prisoner, it's probably the one I listen to the least, but it has its moments, not the least of which is its sense of adventure!

What do you call a dog with no legs? Cigarette, and then take him out for a drag!

It's all good stuff, nice & greasy to be sure. Great party music. Like Soul Stream said, Wilkerson OWNS this sound. But for my money, my favorite is SHOUTIN'! The Texas Twister with the Holy Trinity of Greeeeeeeaze!!!! Does it get any juicier than this? B)

80's underground jangle-pop fans take note!
Big Al replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
How can I forget? I hear that song every time I go to the $%#$%#^% grocery store!!!! Hated that song when it came out, hate it even more now! "Ah hey ah ma ma aye ayoobie aye!!!" But then, I have a real soft spot for the Bangles "If She Knew What She Wants." -
Oooooooh YEAH!!!! I've been perusing a bunch of Looney Tunes pages; turns out that the aforementioned restored "Blue Ribbons" were restored prior to the DVD release, so maybe that is all, folks. I hope not, though!

I wish I could tell you. I've had the thing now for over a week, and I'm too scared to open it. I wanna wait until I can listen to it in the proper setting and just drink it all in. I wanna savor the moment! I don't wanna just throw it on and hope something jumps out. I want to be drawn in and mesmerized. I want this to be something I'll come back to over and over and over. Even if I have the same response as that of Jim's, I want to be able to just let it wash over me like a morning tide. Y'know?

How 'bout Count Basie at the organ? It just DRIPS on Paul Quinichette's THE VICE-PRES. Might be what you'd call "old-school greeeaze!" Actually, there's all sorts-a old-school greeeaze on this, courtesy of Bill Doggett, compin' behind everyone including Kenny Drew. Vintage greeeaze, properly preserved!
