  1. He'd like everyone to think that. He's nothing but a wanker, a poser, a Stanley- Crouch-wannabe. A simple glancing of any of his posts reveals his extreme pro-Wynton anti-creativity bias.
  2. What made this article even more special was the fact that it ran on the front page, with a huge spread usually reserved for major news storis. My first thought, sad to say, was that Ornette had passed away and this was the local paper's way of paying tribute. Thankfully, that wasn't the case at all. In fact, it was quite nice for the fact that the article existed just for the sake of profiling a jazz legend. Nice way to start a Sunday!
  3. I just did a USPS tracking on two of the packages I sent, and it says that one of them is still sitting at the post office where I left it; meanwhile, it appears that the other one has delivered. So, to the one gentleman who resides in Ohio, PLEASE contact me. I need to know if you've received your package or not. E-mail me at acrearick@hotmail.com. Thanks. I hope the USPS didn't screw me up on this!
  4. What is Weinstock's opinion of Orrin Keepnews, both in terms of OK's role at Riverside in the 50's and 60's, and in terms of his role with Fantasy since the 1970s (especially his reissue programs and the OJC series on CD). These may very well be questions I know the answer to, if my gut is any indication; but it would still be nice to have him verbalize it.
  5. Funny....and sad. I've always felt that the leading cause of atheism in this country is religious zealotry. These are people who, after all, may know the Bible word-for-word, but not know the Bible whatsoever.
  6. Nothing at all. For some reason while posting last night, I thought I saw Karl Marx avatar, and I thought it would be fun to pull a James T. Cat on the guy, and jokingly mentioned that. When I posted, the Al Green avatar was back, and I figured my comment on the original Marx avatar would not have made sense. Come to think of it, though, should you ever go back to that avatar, perhaps AB could cause Groucho's face to appear in some way. BTW, I think I may be sorry I ever introduced that WND site to you. You seem to be having too much fun with it!
  7. Bennie Green!
  8. FWIW, I scanned through this article, and share many of the same sentiments as Moose. It's like this guy's M.O. was "I bet I can out-snob those blasted atheists." But also bear in mind that, at this same website, you can find an ad (disguised as an article) for a new WorldNetDaily Books titled "Triangle of Death," wherein it is uncovered that a known terrorist was smuggled out of the US....right after JFK was killed. Uh huh... I'm sure this wouldn't be considered "irrational." You can also buy books by Michael Savage from this site. Assuming you'd want to..... Edit: Took out the part about Alex's avatar. I forgot it keeps switching back & forth like that.
  9. After looking at it for so long, I finally broke down and got the Quinichette VICE-PRES as well a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I did because I keep coming back to it on a regular basis. Nothing earth-shattering, just chock full of lively swinging and hearty playing all around. Plus, it's got wall-to-wall Freddie Green, and that's ALWAYS a good thing!
  10. You got THAT right!!!!
  11. Sent a PM re: Blue Spirits
  12. He's "the Kid in Black!" My son is having a "sleepover" right now with his best friend. I may be here awhile...... B) I should also mention that I have a daughter, who's actually my step-daughter. I love her with all my heart, as if she were my blood daughter. Not a moment has gone by that I didn't wish she was. I've known her since she was three, and married her mother when she was six. I didn't mention this in my first post because I really feel like I missed something in her first three years. There have been times I've told her I wished I'd known her mom back when our daughter was born; how I wish I could've held her when she was a baby; helped with the diaper-changing and all that. I've known her most of her life, and we share a close relationship that some blood father-daughters don't even share. Needless to say, I consider myself doubly lucky for having married her mother, and gotten the opportunity to help raise this beautiful young lady. But I will always feel like I've missed a huge chunk of her life. So, in all honesty, I can't really talk about "life before kids," because when my wife and I said "I do," it was instant fatherhood for me, and I've been loving every minute of it.......even the difficult moments (as any parent of a teenager will tell you). And that's the other reason I didn't bring this up in my first post: she is a teenager after all, convinced that someone somewhere is watching her every move so that it can be reported at school the very next day. I can just see it now: FRIEND: "Your dad said some very nice things about you." MY DAUGHTER: [[[[[[sIGH]]]]]]]
  13. I think it's the second-best avatar on the board right now! "Talkin' Jazz n Stuff......" Too cool!!! AfricaBrass is the coolest!
  14. Here ya go, Moose! But beware, this is right-wing spin at its most ferocious.
  15. Holy cow, I think I'm gonna have a coronary!!! And I even get my Alfred E face back! AB, you're the greatest!!!
  16. I just heard "Still Groovin'" on KNTU.... this track tells me that COAST TO COAST is every bit as good & greeeeazy as KEEP THAT GROOVE GOIN'. I have GOTS to get this one. TODAY dammit!!!
  17. Man, I'm gonna be afraid to open the toilet for a while. In fact, I may not even let my kids open theirs without my supervision: "But daaaaaaaaad, I gotto goooooooo!" "Hang on son, I'm almost done posting! Then I gotta find the key to unlock the padlock on the toilet......" Hey, a dad can't be too careful!
  18. Are there any Prestige sessions that he feels are overlooked because they weren't on a label like Blue Note or Riverside, but that they are on the same level of playing as a BLUE TRAIN (just to give one example; is there one or two albums of his that he feels have that special something that pushed it into the upper realms of greatness?) or a BRILLIANT CORNERS? Does he feel that, when critics refer to "standard blowing sessions," they're referring to Prestige in a derogatory manner? On a note related to the first question: how would he counter the claim that Coltrane did nice work at Prestige, but that it wasn't essential when compared to BLUE TRAIN, his Atlantic work, and his Impulse work? (For the record, I don't buy this notion for a second; but I have seen it expressed elsewhere).
  19. It's discussed in his autobiography, To Be or Not to Bop.
  20. Just as I thought (guess this thing's pretty accurate after all): 1. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (100%) 2. Bahá'í Faith (90%) 3. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (85%) 4. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (81%) 5. Sikhism (76%) Not sure about #4, and #5 proves what I've always thought: that I'm a Grade-A sikh-o! And FWIW, UU placed #15 on my list!
  21. No, but I understand he helped popularize the process known as Stierlization!
  22. They eventually fall asleep.....right when you're waking up! B)
  23. I hope it’s not too late to suggest a radical re-working of the proposed Organissimo fund-raising CD, but how about making a Christmas/holiday CD? And to take it a step further, combine the heads of some of the great greasy tunes to lead into the Christmas/holiday tune. The idea for this came from listening to my favorite Christmas CD: The Ventures Christmas Album. For those who’ve never heard it, the Ventures took eleven Christmas carols/songs, and used popular songs of the mid-60’s as intros into the tunes. So, as an example, the Beatles “I Feel Fine” led into “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer;” the tune “When You Walk in the Room” morphs into “Blue Christmas.” Stuff like that. I’d be glad to send a CDR of it up to you guys to give you an idea of what I’m talking about (I don’t know if it’s in print or not; if it is, it’s worth getting because it’s so much FUN!) Just an idea that I figured you guys'd be able to pull off!
  24. Larry Young UNITY---oh HELL YEAH!!! I hope be able to say the same thing about MOTHER SHIP in a matter of days!
