  1. I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you!
  2. I'm just glad you're back, safe & sound! I hope everything is alright.
  3. Jeez, now Jason Witten has a broken rib. I know injuries are part of the game, but it sure seems like the Cowboys have had more than their share this year. Unfortunately, none of their offensive line is injured, which means we still gotta put up with Flozell Adams missing blocks and false-starting.
  4. Thanks TF, I got yer PM. Dammit, I knew I shouldn't've slept thru senior year Shakespeare.
  5. Yeah, I thought that was a particularly strong batch of VO's, IMHO. Gonna be getting a bunch of those: Milt Jackson - Live At The Museum Of Modern Art (Remastered) Stan Getz - Sweet Rain (Remastered) Maynard Ferguson - Octet (Remastered) Ramsey Lewis - Goin' Latin (Remastered) Willie Bobo - Bobo Motion (Remastered) Hugh Masekela - Home Is Where The Music Is (Remastered) John Klemmer - Barefoot Ballet (Remastered)
  6. I'm a little worried about a fellow forum member, Peter Johnson. I ordered some CDs from him a couple weeks ago, along with a list of other Fantasy K2's I was looking for. The last PM I received from him was on October 10. He said he thought he had a bunch of the K2's, but was on his way out the door for the weekend and would let me know when he got back that following Monday. He also said he had my CDs with him and would be dropping them off at the post office. I'm worried because a) I never heard back from him that following Monday, b) he hasn't responded to a PM I sent about a week ago, c) his last post on the board was October 17, and d) the CDs haven't arrived. Anyone know if he's alright? I hope everything's alright with him.
  7. That's cool. I don't understand why Verve didn't just keep it under the LPR name. Or why they felt like they had to do it two different ways between Europe and the States.
  8. I enjoy it. I wish I had stuff to contribute, but like others am enjoying what you post. Keep it up!
  9. Well, FWIW, at least here in the States, what we now recognize as the Verve Originals are the digipaks with the color strip on the left hand side with the word ORIGINAL written in. I guess Verve was trying different things when they were issuing the guitar albums, the Simone discs, the Decca Original (thanks for the reminder, I remember there were a few of those as well).
  10. Yeah, I'm not sure either since I didn't get any of them. I did see them at Forever Young, and IIRC they had the same kind of blue side-spine as the "guitars" discs. Maybe worth another trip to FY at lunch to see if they still have them and if they are marked that way.
  11. Yeah, wasn't there a whole slew of Nina Simone releases right before the guitar discs? I also remember Bluesmith being slated for release, but I never saw it. Just as well, I s'pose; it isn't that great.
  12. You sure about that?
  13. That session is available on the LEGENDS OF ACID JAZZ two-fer, which is still in print (and available at the Concord website!). The RVG has a couple of single-mixes not available on the 2-fer. I don't plan on upgrading, but I could see if you're a fan of the RVG series, this would still be a good buy.
  14. FWIW, it looks like a whole slew of Verve Originals are slated to hit BMG soon: Hugh Masekela John Klemmer Maynard Ferguson Milt Jackson Ramsey Lewis Stan Getz Willie Bobo Grover Washington Jr.
  15. I hear you - for me, it's particularly disappointing to have had this happen with an entire LP's-worth of Tadd's music. I, OTOH, really enjoy this album, as well as most of these kinds of Riverside dates (Cannonball's "African Waltz" notwithstanding). The Jimmy Heath albums, the Blue Mitchell albums, this album..... I love 'em all! Different strokes, I guess.
  16. Interesting, because here in the States that batch is still LPR (I've got the Szabo, and I've seen the Lateef). I do remember some other titles being released between the end of the LPR and the beginning of the VO here in the States. I'll see if I can't track those down at some point.
  17. There's a lot to be said for that. Maybe if I ever find a TOCJ of it, I'll hear something different. That was certainly the case with READY FOR FREDDIE.
  18. Glad I did some searchin', I knew there'd been a thread about this somewhere. A FICKLE SONANCE Jackie McLean - alto sax Tommy Turrentine - trumpet Sonny Clark - piano Butch Warren - bass Billy Higgins - drums Would someone PLEASE tell me why this album bores me to tears? I mean, Jackie Mac is only one of my favorite alto players (if not THE favorite) and a lot of times is THE definition of jazz for me; Sonny Clark? Did he ever NOT swing? Smilin' Billy, again another favorite and, Art Blakey notwithstanding, THE definition of swing for me. And this same trio (Clark/Warren/Higgins) backed Dex on the magical sessions that produced GO and A SWINGIN' AFFAIR, not to mention Sonny's own LEAPIN & LOPIN. Was this one of those rare instances where EVERYONE was having an off-day? Or am I the only one who's missing the obvious?
  19. No, I think you covered it all. I never knew that the VO was the successor to the LPR, but I can see how that would be assumed. I believe there were some titles that were issued between the LPRs and the VOs that, although they weren't classified as any kind of "series," seem to be a link between the two. There were three that were released in January 2006: Herb Ellis' Ellis in Wonderland, Howard Roberts' Good Pickin's, and Jimmy Raney featuring Bob Brookmeyer. I only have the Ellis, and I'll look on the jewel case when I get home to see if it mentions any kind of "series" on it.
  20. Sarandon unclothed?
  21. Alright, so the BFT will resume again in December. Sidewinder, anytime you want to start your signup thread is alright with me! I'd like for future BFTs to work this way: 1) Signup thread is started at least a month in advance of the BFT discussion date 2) As soon as discussion of the current month's BFT starts, the signup thread for the following month's BFT begins. 3) Answer thread is started at least one week prior to the end of the month. NEW PROCESS TO SPEED THINGS ALONG As soon as your BFT disc is completed, please forward the answers to me. I promise not to look at them (seriously); however, in the event something comes up and you are unable to post your answers before month's end, I'll at least have the list handy to post, and you can always come back later and provide details, explanations, stories, etc. I know from personal experience that putting together the answer thread is probably the most difficult part of the whole process because you want to find names, dates, recording locations, as well as share personal anecdotes & stuff like that. Which we all want to read, but we also understand that life happens and, as a result, we don't always get to add the details when we want to. (I still haven't added the details to the last three tracks of my last BFT, which was last year!!!) Again, please do not post your questions here, but rather in the always evolving, always open BFT FAQ thread. Thanks again, and happy listening!
  22. Alright, a new Master List has been posted, and I'm gonna ask Jim to lock this thread and pin the new thread. Thanks for continuing to participate, guys!
  23. Much thanks to Mikeweil for allowing me to take the reins of this. Below is all the information you'll find on the original Master List. The only thing that has changed is just that I can now edit BFT links from #60 on. PM me with any questions. Organissimo Blindfold Test Masters Please do not post here! Please PM or e-mail your requests, errors, if you want to switch your position, or if you want to be deleted from the list - I may overlook a request posted in the signup thread. Thanks! The dates following the names of future compilers are based on our attempted rate of one test each month. I will update this list as soon as any changes occur. For any questions, how to sign up, how to compile and ship, etc., please look up the FAQ thread first. Anyone interested in a copy of one of the previous test discs may send a PM to Noj - see post below. Thanks for your generous offer! An excel file listing all previously used tracks is available on e-mail request from MartyJazz - see post below. Thanks a lot for your efforts! Or click here for a link to an uploaded zipped file - thanks to dutchmanx! 24. Well, I hope it gets better than the opener, "Lester Leaps In." This breakneck-speed play-as-many-notes-as-possible style seems to be the antithesis of everything the Count and the Prez played.
  25. The Rain Song The construction of this song is so long that you could run through it once or twice, finish with the ending, and take about five minutes or so.
