That session is available on the LEGENDS OF ACID JAZZ two-fer, which is still in print (and available at the Concord website!). The RVG has a couple of single-mixes not available on the 2-fer. I don't plan on upgrading, but I could see if you're a fan of the RVG series, this would still be a good buy.

I hear you - for me, it's particularly disappointing to have had this happen with an entire LP's-worth of Tadd's music. I, OTOH, really enjoy this album, as well as most of these kinds of Riverside dates (Cannonball's "African Waltz" notwithstanding). The Jimmy Heath albums, the Blue Mitchell albums, this album..... I love 'em all! Different strokes, I guess.

Interesting, because here in the States that batch is still LPR (I've got the Szabo, and I've seen the Lateef). I do remember some other titles being released between the end of the LPR and the beginning of the VO here in the States. I'll see if I can't track those down at some point.

There's a lot to be said for that. Maybe if I ever find a TOCJ of it, I'll hear something different. That was certainly the case with READY FOR FREDDIE.

I mean, Jackie Mac is only one of my favorite alto players (if not THE favorite) and a lot of times is THE definition of jazz for me; Sonny Clark? Did he ever NOT swing? Smilin' Billy, again another favorite and, Art Blakey notwithstanding, THE definition of swing for me. And this same trio (Clark/Warren/Higgins) backed Dex on the magical sessions that produced GO and A SWINGIN' AFFAIR, not to mention Sonny's own LEAPIN & LOPIN. Was this one of those rare instances where EVERYONE was having an off-day? Or am I the only one who's missing the obvious?

No, I think you covered it all. I never knew that the VO was the successor to the LPR, but I can see how that would be assumed. I believe there were some titles that were issued between the LPRs and the VOs that, although they weren't classified as any kind of "series," seem to be a link between the two. There were three that were released in January 2006: Herb Ellis' Ellis in Wonderland, Howard Roberts' Good Pickin's, and Jimmy Raney featuring Bob Brookmeyer. I only have the Ellis, and I'll look on the jewel case when I get home to see if it mentions any kind of "series" on it.

Alright, so the BFT will resume again in December. Sidewinder, anytime you want to start your signup thread is alright with me! I'd like for future BFTs to work this way: 1) Signup thread is started at least a month in advance of the BFT discussion date 2) As soon as discussion of the current month's BFT starts, the signup thread for the following month's BFT begins. 3) Answer thread is started at least one week prior to the end of the month. NEW PROCESS TO SPEED THINGS ALONG As soon as your BFT disc is completed, please forward the answers to me. I promise not to look at them (seriously); however, in the event something comes up and you are unable to post your answers before month's end, I'll at least have the list handy to post, and you can always come back later and provide details, explanations, stories, etc. I know from personal experience that putting together the answer thread is probably the most difficult part of the whole process because you want to find names, dates, recording locations, as well as share personal anecdotes & stuff like that. Which we all want to read, but we also understand that life happens and, as a result, we don't always get to add the details when we want to. (I still haven't added the details to the last three tracks of my last BFT, which was last year!!!) I've agreed with 95% of what you've said post game 7, Al, but I have to cry foul here. The reason at least half of RSN missed the ending of game 5 is the asinine TV schedule. Just to be fair, Sox fans typically stay to the end of every game and don't miss a pitch (live). But when your game starts an hour later than usual, particularly during the school year, that really screws east coast fans, and frankly, I'm a little sick of it. Point well taken. I sometimes forget I'm in the Central time zone.

That's an understatement! Brad Johnson looked AWFUL with 3 ints, and a spaghetti arm, Marion Barber fumbled, Roy Willliams was O fer, TO had no impact. On D they couldn't stop the run or the passing attack of the mighty Rams. Granted, the following starters or key players are all gone right now: Tony Romo Kyle Kosier Matt McBriar - for year Sam Hurd - for year Felix Jones Roy Williams (the other one) - for year Terence Newman Pacman Jones - for year (?) That's alot of secondary starters missing, but still no reason to play as poorly as they have on D. Absolutely. There is absolutely no reason the Boys(?) should've lost this one, if they're as loaded with talent as everyone says they are. Local sportswriter Randy Galloway nailed this one: these guys just flat out quit on their coach and their owner. Can't say I blame 'em. They are like sheep without a shepherd right now.

That Red Sox comeback in game five (which apprently was watched by everyone EXCEPT Red Sox fans) was unbelievable, game six was even more exciting, and this was one could've gone either way. All it could've taken was one swing of the bat. Series like this, IMHO, are what make baseball so wonderful.

You're kidding, right? A 3-1 game, tight all the way to the end; can't you acknowledge that maybe the Rays played a helluva game and did what they had to do to win, and just tip your cap to them? Yes, I know if you're a Sox fan this is heartbreaking, but damn man, it's not like this was a blowout, or a come-from-behind bullpen meltdown, or anything else even remotely embarrassing. IMHO, this was a game that was fought to the bitter end, and the only reason it ends is because eventually one team wins and one team loses. And give me a break about being programmed for failure. Your team has won how many World Series in the last ten years? More than BOTH of my teams (Rangers & Cubs) COMBINED!!! The Red Sox a pathetic failure my fat ass. Give it a rest already.
