That was to make up for the stupid stupid STUPID "roughing the kicker" call. Nice acting job by that OU punter, the big wuss. But yeah, as much as it pains me to say, I thought it was an interception, too. Still, if anyone had told me that UT would've even been close in this game, much less win it, I'd still be laughing. And yeah, Michigan really sucks this year. Toledo, jeeeeezussss......

How is all this financial craziness affecting you...
Big Al replied to Free For All's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I thought you were going to say that aloc no longer drinks Pepsi, its the generic brand til further notice. I think I speak for all Pepsi drinkers when I say that it's gonna take a lot more than a financial crisis, plunging stock markets, and dwindling retirement funds to make us switch away from Pepsi. Take my money, take my car, take my music, but do NOT take my Pepsi! I am blessed that the crisis has not affected me directly. All I have is a small bank saving account at a very strong bank and a Section 529 plan for my kids that doesn't have that much money in it to begin with. -
PM sent on the above. Got any other K2's you're looking to unload?

I hope he accepts your offer.

Thanks guys. Will keep a look out. Thru Rhapsody, I listened to Marty Grosz and His Hot Combination, which was thoroughly enjoyable. Loved his vocals, too. This guy is definitely one I'm gonna check out in more detail!

Johnny Griffin Tribute Update (photos)
Big Al replied to Michael Weiss's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Have I mentioned how much of a drag it is to live so far away from NYC??? I am SO envious! That looks like it was a terrific evening! And DAMN but Jimmy Heath has aged as nicely as a fine wine! -
How Many of Us Consider Ourselves to Be "Audiophiles?"
Big Al replied to freejazz2020's topic in Audio Talk
Yeah, in this case, ignorance is not only bliss, but also a helluva lot less expensive! -
"Former" metalhead? Dude, you can't kill the metal. The metal will live on. Once a metalhead, ALWAYS a metalhead. Maybe y'alls next album could be called that!
-
Well, my skronk tolerance level is relatively low compared to a lot of other folks! More guesses, folks, please! This is a very worthy, very challenging BFT. It ain't background music, Icantellyouthat!

Well, Lon, your posting of the Left to His Own Devices cover on the "Listening To" thread got me curious, and now after some AMG investigating and Rhapsody listening, WHERE DO I START??? Will any recording suffice? Are they all good, and just about any title will do? Are there any to stay away from, or at the very least put off until I've heard other more worthy titles?

So I'm driving the kids to school today and we hear "Groovadelphia" on KNTU this morning. What makes this so cool (aside from the obvious coolness about hearing the guys on the radio in the first place).... well, there was so much cool about this: Yesterday, we were listening to the Groovadelphia CD in the truck, the title track was playing. I mentioned to my son that "this is that band that my friends in Michigan are in." He thought that was cool, and he & his buddy were bobbin' their heads & tappin' their fingers to the music. Now, you gotta remember: these are twelve-year-olds who dig Metallica & other Rock Band/Guitar Hero bands, so this is a good thing. When the boys got in the truck today, I mentioned that this was Organissimo ("The band with your friends in Michigan, Dad?" "Ooohhh yeahh!!!") and not only did they think it was pretty cool that the cool song they heard on the CD player the day before was on the radio today, but they were STILL groovin' along with the song. I called Skid cuz I had to call SOMEONE. Cool thing about Skid: he's one of the few people on the planet I can call and tell about something like this who would truly appreciate this. Plus, he made me howl this morning when he answered the phone thusly: "Tori Amos Fan Club Headquarters." I love getting caught off guard like that! Then I called KNTU and pretended like I'd never heard of Organissimo and asked "who was playing that funky organ-trio type song that was played about five minutes ago." She said who it was, and I said "PLEASE play that again and a LOT! That was a terrific tune," and she said "Well, keep listening because we have it on heavy rotation." HELL FREAKIN' YEAH!!!!! Organissimo in heavy rotation in the DFW area! More congrats, guys!

Did anyone see the G-man on "Dirty Sexy Money" tonight?
Big Al replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes. In fact, when the polilce showed up, he kept on playing, oblivious to everything going on around him. Now, I don't know if that was called for in the script, or maybe the actors just said "Fuck it, just work around him." I don't know. I was hoping for gunplay, but alas..... -
He played "Amazing Grace" at the funeral, a version so wretched I almost became an atheist because of it. I can't help but wonder if everyone except the G-man was in on the joke here. Anyway, while he was playing, the police arrived. Unfortunately, it was to arrest another character. This show is so irredeemably sleazy, I can't help but watch it. :rsmile:

YOU TRYIN' TO BE FUNNY, AL??? I should come down to Texas to kick your ass for making fun of my favorite artist/singer. "neediest fan base": DAMN RIGHT! Just because we NEED to have her beautiful voice and profound lyrics in our life doesn't mean you can make fun of it. If you had a soul, maybe you would be able to grasp the depth of her talent. Obviously, this is not the case. "wind like the breeze that blew through my hair on a morning": yes, her music touches me like a cool morning breeze, blowing new life into my mundane existence. "your heart became black like the darkest night": talking about yourself there, pal? A world without Tori's music is very dark, of that I'm sure. "my superstar my dream my love": I once had a dream that I was a Bösendorfer piano bench, on tour with Tori. Since you are too busy living a life of mockery, you probably aren't aware of the raw love and sexual energy she bestows on it while playing. Gezhundheit yourself, motherfucker. I hear you baby, loud and clear!

You should see what I said in the "Organissimo #1" thread. <flame suit on and ready to go>

I really wish Skid would post his response to my title spoof that he PM'd me.....
-
Now there's a genre I'm woefully unfamiliar with. Do they play Tori Amos music?
-
JAZZ: the title track to Danilo Perez' Across the Crystal Sea. I got this more for Claus Ogerman than Perez, but Perez playing is gorgeous on this whole album (admittedly, the first album of his that I've purchased). The theme has constantly been running through my head. ROCK/POP: Can you believe I'm still listening to "Love is a Stranger" nonstop? (Hush, Skid!) Seriously, Zep's "The Rain Song" has gotten me again. I love to change the tuning on the acoustic guitar so I can play along with this tune. Still as stunning as when I first heard it back in '85.

DAMN!!! More airplay than McCoy Tyner and Dave Holland! That's freakin' HUGE!!! Congratulations guys! This disc deserves all of the accolades and #1's stuff tossed its way!

I can't believe you said yes....

This was the original title of the DVD: When an artist feels so secure about their own music despite having the neediest fan base on the planet that they allow themselves to cast certain conventions like proper grammar and run-on sentences to the wind like the breeze that blew through my hair on a morning when you said we were true but deep down you were only thinking of you and her and him and me and baby makes three of a kind of blue feeling I had when you said something about how I'm always going on and on and on and on and on but never really stopping to think or breathe or touch or taste or smell or live like we used to do before your heart became black like the darkest night without a dream to my name that we used to believe we would share and share was what we did before we stopped sharing our dreams and feelings and nothing more than feelings would bring us so close to you my superstar my dream my love goodbye my love to love you baby you're a rich fag achoo! Gezhundheit!

Great point , 100 wins and look at their competition A's , Mariners ,Rangers (sorry Al) You won't get any argument from me. There's a reason why the AL West is referred to as the "AL Worst."

Strange game, this baseball: both teams who had the best record in the respective leagues (Cubs and Angels) upset by wild card teams in the first round. Oddly enough, Cubs manager Lou Piniella was the manager of the Seattle Mariners when they won 116 games in 2001 and lost to Yankees in the ALCS. A potential Sox/Rays matchup in the WS: I could see Dan & Marty at the Trop, rooting ferociously against each other, annoying everyone within a ten-row radius.....
