  1. Well, they never had a lead to begin with.....
  2. From which LP is this track?
  3. No kidding. Thankfully I've been able to just about complete my vinyl collection of his CTI output. Penny Arcade is worth it for the Headhunters-meets-Stevie-Wonder take on "Too High." HELLUVA groooove!
  4. This sounds like it could be right up there with the Teddy Wilson set. May have to put this one on the wish list!
  5. Wow, I'll bet the Rangers really could blow a ..... Never mind, Bay just struck out.
  6. Damn! Why couldn't the Rangers have done this last night when we were there?
  7. No, but there's a Styx tape stuck in the cassette player, Paradise Theatre, if that helps sell it.
  8. I'm trying to sell my Nissan Altima. Here's the Craig's List listing, in case anyone in the DFW area is looking for a car (or if you know anyone who is looking): Buy my car, why doncha? This is a cash only sale. Not even a boxload of TOCJs will sway me!
  9. Ellingtonia Moods & Blues (RCA France orange label) Credited to Paul Gonsalves, but it may as well be a Johnny Hodges record, or at least co-billed.
  10. Charles Mingus and Friends In Concert (Legacy 2-CD reissue) They may just as well have titled this BILL COSBY presents Charles Mingus and BILL COSBY and Friends In Concert with BILL COSBY.
  11. You're gonna put Johnny E and Berigan out of business with this rule!
  12. Is that not them? I'm going to the Rangers/Red Sox game tonight. Hopefully I'll get some decent pictures to post up here.
  13. I know it's only RealPlayer, and the artist descriptions are generally useless, but every now and then you get a gem like this one, describing Charles Earland: "Recreating walking basslines with his organ peddles, Earland's music is gritty, soulful and funky." A surreally humorous way to start a Friday....
  14. Great, IMHO! Can I at least have the answers? I really wanna know about tracks 5, 6, 10, & 12!
  15. I love MOON RAPPIN', and I don't see any similarities. YMMV, tho.
  16. Vinyl! Vinyl! I love vinyl! Gimme vinyl! Will they come with record jackets & sleeves?
  17. I only have the domestic RVG of this title, and I've never cared for the mastering on it. I've been looking for a TOCJ of this for quite some time, not knowing if there ever was one to begin with. Does anyone know if this is a different mastering than the original TOCJ? At this price, I'm very tempted to just say "heck with it" and buy it anyway. Speak No Evil was released in the Toshiba "Blue Note Works" series on April 26, 1995: TOCJ-4194. Thanks, Hans. I've also e-mailed my questions to Hiroshi (other questions including this one). Looking forward to his reply.
  18. Alright, let me see if I've got this straight: Japanese re-issues of US RVGs or actual Japanese masterings (like the old TOCJ series)? Re-packaged OJC's or actual Japanese re-masterings?
  19. :tup :tup
  20. Have you heard it? If AMG is to be believed, this sounds like it's right up there (or down there) with Elegant Soul. I hope it's better than that! I have an LP burn of that, I enjoy it...like all of Reuben's Blue Note dates...take that as either a recommendation or a condemnation depending on what you think of my taste. If it's like BLUE MODE, bring it on baby!!!!! If it's like LOVE BUG, that'll be cool! If it's funky, good enough for me. If it's a radical departure, thanks but no....... Well, I listened to it via Rhapsody. Sad to say, it's none of the above. It's just..... there. Don't think I'll be getting this one.

  22. Well, thanks to Hurricane Gustav the temp the last couple of days has been in the 80's. Supposed to be low-mid 90's this weekend, cooling down at night. Hopefully no humidity, too. Perfect September baseball weather, IMO.
  23. I just can't get into this album. Maybe it's because I have the attention span of a flea, but these songs just go on too long for me and never really get all that interesting.

Flexing some "google fu" into this. WACKO CONSPIRACY THEORY ALERT: I think Cosby had Ruiz killed in New Orleans cuz Hilton kept demanding that their album be presented in a more collaborative manner: i.e. both he and Cos produced, arranged, played, and (in the case of the originals) composed. When Hilton wouldn't back off, he was eliminated. Why else would the CD only be available on the Cos's website? Does any jazzer (or anyone) write with that kind of false praise like the quote above? Notice the case has gone cold? Nothing better to do on a beautiful Thursday afternoon with the mind racing.....

From The Cosby Treasures website, where you can purchase the disc: Read into that whatever you will. My take is that this was literally ghost-written after the fact and Ruiz' name is stamped on there. I could be wrong.
