I'm sure Buddy Montgomery was mentioned in one of these threads (and I suspect in this one here, but I haven't looked)...

You bet, Duncan, glad the data was helpful. Still, I wouldn't be greatly surprised if Mike turned up some evidence of another (rare) quartet album!

I don't know if this will help, but the Goldmine record guide (which I have usually found to be pretty accurate along these lines) indicates that CAL TJADER QUARTET was (re?)issued in 1960 on clear red vinyl and regular black vinyl (both mono issues with catalog number 3310); and again in 1962, except on blue vinyl and black vinyl (both of these in stereo, with the number 8083). I would imagine that this could be a source of confusion. Btw, only one issue of the 1956 quartet LP is listed in this guide (#3227; mono; dark red vinyl).

Barry Bonds passing Babe Ruth HR record
Jim R replied to Tjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
A complex and interesting saga. I think an awful lot of people (media and otherwise) hate Barry Bonds, hated him long before these allegations arose, and that's the main reason for the attempts to demonize him and make him the primary target in terms of the whole steroid problem. The powers that be in MLB are just as much to blame (probably moreso) due to their failures in controlling the problems that exist in baseball. Assuming Bonds has been juicing for awhile, hey- listen to what Mike Schmidt has been saying. He said he might have done the same thing in Barry's situation, after the whole power binge that took place with McGwire and Sosa. Cheating at baseball is as old as the hills... maybe older, and there are a lot of ways to cheat (probably a lot we don't even know about). That doesn't make Barry right (and I'm not saying there shouldn't be asterisks used in record books), but please... Barry Bonds is one man, and he happens to be a great baseball player. The "morons" in San Francisco probably hate him less because he's not beating the shit out of their own pitching. At any rate, as I said I think this whole thing is very complex. It's not so cut and dried as some would like it to be, imo. I appreciate and agree with the above comments of Bob Ryan, Noj (and J Larsen, although I really think the "prick" comment is foolish. You aren't Barry Bonds, you don't know Barry Bonds, you don't know what it would be like to be Barry Bonds, etc etc etc.). Again, I'm not saying Bonds is completely blameless, but look at the big picture. Bombarding people like Bonds with venom and hatred for what he's allegedly done is taken way over the top, imo. -
get out of the towns, find a nice hamlet to spend time, rent a room from a friendly old lady. Or save even MORE money and stay with a friendly, and oh so generous board member!

Except for the Monk BN, Clifford Brown, and Tina Brooks, which were the only LP sets I ever bought, all of the Mosaics I've bought were to replace (and in most cases to add to and improve upon) what I already had as collections of individual LP's. In a few cases (Hank Mobley comes to mind), I already had most of the music on CD thanks to TOCJ's. In more recent years, the possibility of getting everything in individual CD's has become more feasible and affordable, but even then the Mosaics have some big advantages (completeness; great booklets; etc). I've actually passed on a lot of Mosaics, though, when I've already had all (or close to all) of the music on CD.

I've had it happen when I just post once. Me too. I've had a single reply become five posts (this happened some weeks ago).

Looks like Ray was having similar problems to what I encountered here yesterday. Couldn't post at times, couldn't refresh pages, couldn't even access the board for much of the day. So... there's YouTube, there's Dailymotion, there's Google Video... anybody found any other similar sites? There's one called ZippyVideos, but I'm not sure how good it is... plus I haven't figured out how to use it yet.

Mike, There were quite a few names mentioned in recent AAJ threads as well... perhaps there might be a few you can add here... http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread.php?t=6525 http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread.php?t=11396

Not exactly jazz, but the Brasilian connection here reminds me of Jaques Morelenbaum's work with Morelenbaum 2 / Sakamoto. See what you think... http://youtube.com/results?search=morelenb...s&search=Search

All five were released in Europe as individual CD's some years back. I always forget the name of that label that released Fantasy-owned material... three letters... XYZ or something like that? They were apparently not very good transfers, however. The five were also released in Japan... K2's, which I bought around the same time that the U.S. 3-CD release came out.

An absolute classic. Hard to think of a t-p-b-d recording that I like any better than this. "I'll Close My Eyes" is blissful from the get-go... pretty hard to top for me. I stumbled onto a used xrcd copy a few years ago, which is pretty sweet. I agree about the cover, too...
