  2. Ted, maybe you should just stay in Florida.
  3. Yeah... but I'll bet the QUEEN wouldn't recognize him.
  4. Could somebody post a link to the planned sets? One set I would love to see is a George Shearing (late '70's) trio. Three very fine LP's with Louis Stewart and NHOP that have never been released on CD, afaik.
  5. Wow. I would have thought she'd at least be hip to Clapton... by now. What "rock" musicians DID she recognize upon meeting them? Each of the Beatles? Who's been knighted in rockdom and who hasn't? Ah, screw it.
  6. Thanks. I'll watch for a used copy. BTW, it turns out there's some discographical info on those tracks listed at that (Jazzdico.org) link that Jazzshrink posted above.
  7. I thought it was Sangrey who posted that... but I do remember chiming in. Okay, this is hard (always is), but my name is Jim R and I'm a birthday thread slacker. But you guys know I mean well, right? I just posted on the "Happy birthday, Big Al" thread, so maybe there's hope (but don't count on it ). But seriously, my computer is SO slow (HOW SLOW IS IT?)... uhhhh, my computer is so slow, I just found out that we're all gathering at Organissimo, and not the Harlem.org board! Okay, that wasn't very serious. But it does take me a long time to go from thread to thread, and to try to keep up with everything on the TAT page, and I just try to cut every corner I can. That's my excuse... (at least, it's the best one I could think of right now)... Okay, SERIOUSLY. I really appreciate all the posts here... some heartwarming, some hilarious, some kind of nauseating. No, no, really, it's very nice of all of you... although... ... I noticed that the "Happy Birthday, Jazzypaul" thread got more replies than this one. (sorry, I guess I have trouble being serious)
  8. Al, you never told us you lived next to a pond... ... or are you just trying to simulate the Monty Python gag about being so poor that you live in a lake... ? Well, I'll let you explain all that. Anyway, happy birthday to inspires a LOT of my board humor! (sorry about that, everyone. Blame Al)
  9. Gotta admit- I only knew the name "Barney Google" from hearing about him (maybe from my dad... I don't remember now). I don't even remember Snuffy. I was into Charlie Brown. Hmm... I dunno... but for Fitty Pointz I'll guess. Cap'n John? Jedediah? Stuff? Carson? Kate? (hey, you never know), Jimmy? Ozzie? George (Harmonica)? Johnny? Johnny (Hammond)? Marvin (Smitty)? Onterrio? I think I'm getting colder...
  10. Oh man, that's a great set-up... but I already did a joke in this thread.
  11. Chuck, that's probably a good point, except it assumes that we're all sane. Look at it this way, at least we're not talking about being an Ellington completeist (or maybe some would see that as less insane B-) ).
  12. In case you're ever going to do a , you should remember that it's "Kessel", not "Kessell". Couldn't resist that one.
  13. Interesting... could you post some details?
  14. Being from the U.S., I'd say... I've only visited the western provinces of Canada and only made one trip to Mexico (Mazatlan area), but I've always loved Canada... in the summertime, that is. B-) Took the train from Vancouver to Banff a few years ago. Spectacular.
  15. " Blindfold Test .:.23 DISC ONE Answers, Don't Peak!" Don't worry- I think I "peaked" on BFT #3, where I knew all the answers (just a little homonym humor there... sorry). Well, guess who not only owns that Feldman CD, but... also played it about a month ago. Yours truly, displaying some really solid (as in cement) eardrums. All I can say is that perhaps I didn't really hear that tune when I played the CD... because it went by so fast? (Looking for excuses now). I'll have to keep my eyes open for that Levy disc. I didn't really love his sound on that, but from what you wrote about it, it looks like the CD might be up my alley musically. My compliments on the very hip selections you put together, as well as the care and effort you put into posting these answers. Thanks again.

Thanks for posting this. I had seen that website some time ago, but much has been added since my last visit. There are many links that still don't work, but it's worth searching through the pages for the ones that are working. The "compositions" page, for example, is very interesting and informative. I've also enjoyed going through the discography carefully again and correcting my database where necessary. For many years I've thought of myself as a Thomas completeist, but there are always new discoveries. I also need to go through my privately-recorded tapes and compare the data with what's in the discography. It was really a treat to see these cover images (for the first time, in my case): and there may be others... I need to keep looking.
  17. Isn't Groove Brother's The Montgomery Brothers in Canada? GROOVE BROTHERS contains two LP's on one CD: THE MONTGOMERY BROTHERS (Fantasy 3308) and THE MONTGOMERY BROTHERS IN CANADA (Fantasy 8066) As I said, DANGEROUS contains 6 (Riverside) tracks previously issued only in Riverside box set; and 3 previously unissued tracks from "The M.B. In Canada" session. In other words, those three tracks were never on Fantasy 8066, and not released on the GROOVE BROTHERS twofer. ===== Brad, he has the Riverside box.
  18. I wouldn't worry about that. I think almost everybody only remembers their own dumb(ass) comments! Late delivery - one sending went missing entirely this time - is something suffered by everybody at some time or another I guess. Understood. I hope it didn't appear that I was blaming Cary... I had read about the delivery problem in the sign-up thread. All recipients are aware of the enormous effort required to produce a BFT, even those of us who haven't done it yet, so not to give it one's best shot would be a disgrace I think. It's always kind of disappointed me that we don't have a higher participation rate among those requesting (and presumably receiving) discs. With the effort and expense involved, the very least one can do is post a "thanks" and/or "sorry, I haven't had time to participate". Ah well. ===== Good to see Chris coming along to try to "kill" the thread. And he nailed a couple, too! Grant Green mania!
  19. It appears that you may have transposed your guesses for tracks 9 and 10. At least I hope so...
  20. Bingo! Go ahead and trust your ears as to the G-G-uitarist on tracks 4 and 12. B-) Too bad it took awhile for your discs to be delivered, tooter, but it's great that you still participated.
  21. I thought it had been pretty well established... D'OH!!! That'll teach me to post before reading what had come before!!! Sorry about that! :red-faced embarrassment: From the "better late than never" dept.... Sorry Al, I forgot to respond to that post. No need for embarassment- I was just kind of opening the topic for (re)discussion, and was basically relying on my memory (not a wise thing). In other words, I'm pretty sure it's been established that it was actually Young on "Iron City", but that's based mostly on recollections of what I had read on this board (and possibly the BNBB), and less on my ability to distinguish one organ player from another.
  22. I forgot about that one, maybe because I was into that in my teen years, before I really got serious about jazz. I had no idea who Les, Eddie, Benny Bailey, etc were at the time... just thought it was groovy. B-) "Scratch" by The Crusaders was another favorite from that era.
  23. It's hard to analyze an unsorted list like that, but here's one thing I don't see on your list: DANGEROUS (Milestone). 9 Tracks. 1-6 previously issued only in Riverside box set; tracks 7-9 previously unissued tracks from "The Montgomery Brothers In Canada" recordings.
  24. I'm confused. I thought this had been out in the U.S., I know it's been out in Japan, and wasn't it just released as an RVG?
  25. Put out by Savoy relatively recently...
