  1. Sorry about that, my man. The Dexter Blue Notes are essential. Period. If you don't dig those more than the Mosaic Select, I'll be surprised. (Wouldn't hold it against you if you didn't, of course). After you get ALL the Blue Notes, it's on to the Black Lions, the Steeplechases, the Prestiges... ...keep your wallet out.
  2. Based on the comments here, I think it's fair to say that Dicaprio is maturing, and improving as an actor.
  3. Good music. Great cover.
  4. I've never actually seen it, although I've laughed at some of the ads (some were a little too tasteless for my... um... taste. ). I do have some opinions about Adam Corrola, though. A number of years ago, I channel-surfed into MTV's "Loveline", and was almost immediately attracted to Corrola's sense of humor, as well as his chemistry with Dr. Drew. Not long after that, I accidentally stumbled into the radio version of the show, and my appreciation for Corrola doubled (maybe tripled). The radio show is even funnier (although it does deal with some serious issues), and Corrola carries the whole thing. Later, I saw Corrola on Letterman, and was disappointed with the way it came off (not good chemistry between Adam and Dave). By the time the Man Show came along, I was convinced that Corrola was just not meant for TV (at least not in the traditional sense... Crank Yankers may be an exception). If you ever find "Loveline" on the radio, check that out.
  5. Yes, although I was only there for a short time. Not a knock on Linfield... I just needed to transfer. Definitely a beautiful campus (at least as of 1974)...
  6. ... where half of my extended family live! Never thought I'd read a reference to McMinnville on this board. Now, next thing you know, my uncle Pete (from Mac) will start posting here. Do you suppose you'll ever run into anybody on this board who went to Linfield College?... B-)

God, looking at those pictures (other than the one of "Cousin Barbara" - meeEEEEEOW!!!), all I can say is that I really DO hope I die before I get old. I hear you, but let's at least give Don some props for not opting for the dreaded rug... Re cousin Barb ... WHY was she hanging out THERE???!

Just wanted to add that my (jewel case) copy of the Sonny Clark Trio was put out in 1991 by "Century Records" of Japan.

Dan, I see a facial resemblance to the real Don Kirshner. He doesn't look like that anymore, though: http://toniwine.com/pg19.html
  10. I don't go to a lot of films, and I had never seen any perfomances by Leo that really did it for me (like Titanic). I haven't seen The Aviator yet, but I saw Leo interviewed by Charlie Rose (PBS) the other day and came away very impressed with Leo the real person. Very impressed. He showed a lot of intelligence, poise, humility, and grace for such a young man. The clips looked really interesting... I'm going to want to see this one.
  11. The only problem I have with guacamole is figuring out how to get the last molecules out of the bowl when it's all gone, without doing something neanderthal (especially if there are other people around). Avocados are so healthy it's ridiculous, and they're on my essentials list because they're one of the relatively few foods that are low in oxalate.
  12. I noticed earlier that member "O37" was reading here, and that reminded me that I wanted to check for previous discussions here about C.C. There ain't much (no "C.C. Corner", at least). There's this, which is probably a good start: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=10977
  13. I dunno. It's listed in all the guides I have under Jackson only...

  15. Great stuff, Lon. I love photos that take you back in time and make you feel like you're there. I love this (wish I could find a bigger scan):
  16. Thanks Lon. That points up the fact that photos can be great for a variety of reasons. Subject, timing, use of light, depth, artistic effects, humor, historical importance, andI'mramblingaboutsomethingI'mnotqualifiedtorambleabout.
  17. I could/should have mentioned something else. Trane (IMO) was very very "photogenic". I mean, you don't often see photos of him that aren't intriguing or attractive. He had his game face on most of the time, and what a face it was. Hard to take a bad photo of (insert your own icon here... I'll go with The Golden Gate Bridge)...
  18. Might as well go back on topic and get some dialog going. I'd be curious to know why you're surprised that nobody mentioned that one...? Legendary album by a legendary artist, but the photo doesn't strike me as particularly special (just a gut reaction from someone who has never really studied photography ). No surprise to me that everybody (almost) has their own opinions... great photography being in the viewfinder of the beholder. B-) I do wish that some of our more expert minds in this field (you know who you are) would go ahead and do some analysis here. As I say, I don't think there are any "right" answers, but it would be fun for some of us to learn a thing or two about the art form. There are a couple of images here (the one Chuck posted, and the first one posted by tonym) that I had either never seen before or hadn't seen in a long time, which I think are pretty darned spectacular... ===== Oh- and I think that Herman Leonard shot of Dexter is a great one too.
  19. I saw the CD time to time, but when I did, it was one copy only. I had two different collectors (one in San Francisco, where things are typically MUCH easier to find than where I am) ask me to help them look for it. I'm not saying it was rare, I said it was "not the easiest" to find.
  20. Although Prestige put it out in the U.S. on vinyl, it was never exactly the easiest thing to find- especially in the CD era. But you're right- great session.
  21. Must have been your mood... that's the only explanation. The Black Lions are all good (they all come from the same weekend, so...). Did you pick up the 4th volume that came out after the others? Well, there are about 30 of them now (several new releases over the past year), so it's hard to generalize about it, but I like almost everything on the label. The one you have is interesting and unique in that it's a trio with no piano. It's not among my favorites, though. I'm with Chuck regarding the SWISS NIGHTS discs (three of them). Great stuff. I also love most of the Radioland stuff with Tete, and just about all of the quartet sessions with Drew, Parlan, and Harris. I think the orchestral stuff is nice for a change of pace as well. Classic in terms of being an event for sure... in terms of the music it will depend on who you talk to. I'm not that keen on it, but that's just me...
  22. Hi Al! Oh, no. I'm sorry- I wasn't thinking. (I'll keep upping this, I promise. Maybe you and I can keep it going)
  23. I couldn't name just one either, but this reminds me- I love the shot (would have to look up who took it) of Ella with Goodman and Ellington watching her from the audience.
