wow rostasi. amazingly nice for you to do this for me i'm trying it now. looks like it'll take a while to download and then we'll see. thanks...
-
oh well. i'm giving up. thanks...
-
hey rod: even though it won't play for me, thanks again. but just for me to sure, are you saying that you can watch the vid you posted above? it's not clear from what you've written (in my mind, "getting the link" doesn't mean the same thing as being able to watch something. i know - i'm anal...) this one won't load for me either. has everyone else who has looked at this thread been able to watch the two vids rostasi linked to without problems?!@#$%
-
got my Territory 5 New Horse today - fast and bulbous thanks Chuck. coincidentally, i also unexpectedly received the current Signal To Noise side by side w/ the cd from Chuck. so i guess thanks go to Nate too
-
thanks beri. that one actually played (i found that one before but didn't play it because the site had a big, dark, all-screen-encompassing pop-up ad that i thought looked pretty suspect...), but wouldn't allow me to download to my realplayer - which is what i wanna do! my download function on my player is working so if anyone else can find another place this vid is at i'm still in need...
-
is it playing for you rostasi?

i joke w/ my family every once in a while about how good i am at using google to find whatever i'm looking for - and i am pretty good at it. but i can't for the life of me find that clip/video of philip glass on the colbert report doing that segment called We Are At War. this kinda stuff is usually a snap to find. if anyone can direct me to where i could find this i'd appreciate it. or, if anyone knows why it has been taken down from seemingly EVERYWHERE, i'd also appreciate it. i assume there was some legal issue w/ the segment but i can't find a discussion about that either. i know i know - it's a weird thing to wanna track down but... wtf

in a word - blech. nearly unwatchable and embarrassing. had to force my way through to the end. in addition to feeling stiff, the video imo is also not very well crafted and seems like the most crass type of blatantly cynical marketing/demographic ass-kissing. the music is pretty lackluster too. this band has been around a long time and i give 'em props for being excellent players and having what it takes to make it in a very difficult business. but i've always gotten the feeling from them that too much of their energies went into figuring what would sell, or what would have broad appeal instead of simply digging into themselves for the music. then again, they made it as professional musicians and i didn't. as far as "fun" goes - thinking that your own definition of fun should be someone else's is hugely lame. while i assume they certainly had fun making the vid, that doesn't always transfer into it being fun to watch, which is pretty obvious from the responses in this thread. and a lot of the people in the video actually look like they were told to try to look like they were having fun. what could be less fun than that? director to people in video during shoot: "Ok, now have fun. Alright, that was pretty good. Now act like you're real hip and down w/ the jazz. Well, that was alright I guess. Now act real goofy. Now go back to hip..." that's painful. oh well... it reminds me of someone telling you to just "smile and cheer up" when you're obviously feeling real bad about something. i always wanna crack someone across the face when they do that i would much rather have someone say to me, "Shit man. That sucks," then tell to just smile and cheer up when i tell them that something's wrong. real nice piano playing throughout though

PM sent for 12080 Territory Band – 5 “New Horse for the White House” (3 DISCS).

sad news. a truly remarkable individual and an awesome artist. RIP.

good to hear David thanks for checkin' in...

i'm not christian, and i'm not religious. but any excuse to post this beautiful performance is ok by me. i saw this live on tv when i was a 14 year-old kid and i still remember how exciting it was for me: Roches On SNL 1979 sure, they've got some intonation issues early on, but they get it pretty well ironed out. i love this performance and i love the roche sisters. merry x-mas to all and everything else good...

Whitney Balliett
thedwork replied to Bol's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
hey bol. i've had a Balliett book listed in my thread "CD Sale! Lots to choose from... mostly jazz/creative - but also pop, folk, classical, etc..." in the for sale/trade section of the forum for a while now. certainly seems like nobody's interested. pop over there and look at what i wrote about it, and if you're interested i'll get it to you for $2 plus shipping. a funny thing about the book: there's a photo on the back w/ the caption "The author with the Duke at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival." but the photo looks to me to be of Duke and Strayhorn. i guess part of the back of someone's head that appears in the photo is Balliet's? kinda goofy. lemme know... put me in the camp of not really enjoying Balliett's writing. and also put me in the camp of feeling that "moms" is the worst kind of internet forum troll. just complete jive. -
Not interested: anything else you have to say - ever.

balls to the wall man. @ 2:42 he reminded me of george adams. nice...

PM coming on the Wheeler and the Rivers/Street/Osgood...
-
hey quique. not bad. not bad at all! you mentioned that you'd appreciate thoughts, so i'd also say overall the piece you've uploaded here sounds a bit 'stiff.' but you've obviously got a lot of good goin' on already. keep on keepin' on...
-
yet another bump. though everything is already somewhat inexpensive, all reasonable offers will be considered
-
that's ironic - i like sandler but don't really dig his chanukah song. Happy Chanukah All!
-
hey there. maybe you mis-wrote something? the thread title says haden/motian; but your post says motian/bley... i have an older haden duets album w/ jarrett doing one of the duets, and motian one of the others. it's called Closeness if i remember right... and then there's the older bley/nhop recording, but no motian on that. anyway, good luck...
-
bump. still lots of good stuff for reasonable prices. make me an offer...
-
bump.

that's a very good idea mjzee - and simple! i have a stand alone tascam cd burner that is super fine. my first conversion using my usb turntable was cool, and pretty easy, but i wasn't able to adjust the input level - it seemed to be "set." and the level turned out to be pretty low compared to everything else in my ipod. not good. i assume/hope being able to control the level on my tascam would solve that problem. it totally did solve that problem. i've burned a number of LPs onto cd and then ripped them into iTunes from there and they sound great. thanks mjzee for the smart, simple solution!

your "embedded" vid appears to be fixed - but i'm only getting the right channel audio! i listen mainly through headphones at my computer and can absolutely not deal w/ having only one channel. it fucks me up. so i only watched/listened to the first 10-20 seconds...

same thing for me.
