  1. Last evening before I went to sleep:
  2. Last item played yesterday, I forgot to post.
  3. I kept this LP of the David Grisman Quintet: ... because the cover of the CD I bought later is ugly:
  4. It fits very well into Eddie Harris' series of satirical comments on human behaviour. That style of Pop Art was very much en vogue back then. Peter Palombi did that one. Here's another example in that style:
  5. Thumbing through my vinyl shelves today I noticed some that I have on CD as well, but never would sell because of the great covers. They changed the cover, for some reason. This Al Hibbler had a different cover in its original Reprise LP issue, but the photo Discovery chose for their reissue is so beautiful! The recent CD reissue has the original cover.
  6. Japanese reissue from 1984 Now playing: This original Pacific Jazz LP in excellent condition sounds much better than the recent Japanese CD reissue!
  7. Tommy Flanagan With The Wilbur Harden Quartet ‎– Plays The Music Of Rodgers & Hammerstein
  8. The 1987 reissue LP includes alternates of two other tunes. The short running time of "Something Wonderful" suggests a 45 rpm release. Now did they find the tape of the two tracks released on the 45 and found they were simply edited and left them off? I guess someone has to buy a copy of that single and compare. The music is good enough to justify the investment. I once had to do this to verify differences between some Cal Tjader takes. https://www.discogs.com/Tommy-Flanagan-With-The-Wilbur-Harden-Quartet-Plays-The-Music-Of-Rodgers-Hammerstein/release/4699442 The French CD version even has a 3rd alternate, but again, not the two 45 tracks. https://www.discogs.com/Tommy-Flanagan-With-The-Wilbur-Harden-Quartet-Plays-The-Music-Of-Rodgers-Hammerstein/release/7468897
  9. My wife loves the music of German "Liedermacher" - singer/songwriters. I often find their music on a level that's far below the level of their lyrics, I never liked that folk-style stuff. There's one exception: Konstantin Wecker, who is a real good musician, and has a very good band, even toured with a jazz group. I joined her several times when he performed in the area, the last time was one day before last New Year's Eve. He expresses a lot of the political and social issues our generation is concerned about.
  10. AFAIK the CD version of Total Eclipse was sold out quickly. Never saw a copy in a 1990's store. Still have the LP. Used copies are not exceedingly high priced, but above average.
  11. A local saxophonist once told the story of how he met his wife on their 25th wedding anniversary party. He was after her and while talking she mentioned she was going to a concert of The Modern Jazz Quartet and asked if he wanted to join her. He was puzzled and asked: "Which modern jazz quartet?" He became a jazz fan after that, even one of the town's most active sax players, and almost ruined his happy marriage by practicing and playing too much besides his job of running an Italian food and wine import company. But he pulled the trigger soon enough.
  12. I miss Carla White ......
  13. Yesterday, after watching a Japanese student play an excellent rendition of two Kapsberger pieces during a live stream of the Frankfurt Music High School's annual Baroque Night:
  14. Pristine condition copy of the first German pressing.
  15. Must pull that one out again. Is there a bad Kenny Burrell album? I don't think so.
  16. If it's not too wild, my wife loves jazz. She prefers trad and swing, or anything with a definite groove. The rest depends on her mood. When she's relaxed she will appreciate even complex music.
  17. Finally located the boxes. The first contains # 4 to 15, 25, and 37 to 61, as well as some special mailings on the Commodore and Nat King Cole boxes. What do you need?
  18. Galuppi was an excellent composer on the level of Vivaldi and others. The bassoon concerto here (transcription of a flute concerto) is a beauty! Sara Mingardo sings with the timbre of a countertenor, which suits the piece perfectly. You can imagine how a castrato sounded.
  19. That's a real classic of a sexy cover.
  20. Duh ..... But I have most of what's in there.
  21. Some of our facebook group members admitted to have been more on facebook than here and said they want to visit the forum more now. So the effect is positive! BTW I had trouble finding it myself again as it really does not show up anywhere, not even in my (public) activities list! No fear ...
